As the civil war raged on, the whole Roman Republic was also thrown into a new wave of horrific living conditions.
Those poor became poorer as they got taxed the hell out to keep the war against Pompey and his subordinates who's currently holed up in greece going.
People voiced out their complaints on why are they getting taxed the most whilst those in power like the merchants such as the Spinther family are basically tax free.
The populace are enraged and uncontent on what they're experiencing. The prices if the normal day to day items have increased exponentially however their wage can't keep up due to the horrific level of taxes.
Due to people being largely incontent with their current life, some have started rebel groups.
They've took arms to fight for change. From Barcelona to Capua, people took their farm tools to fight against the stationed legionnaires at their own settlements.
The Spinther family of course knew that this will happen as the amount of tax is absolutely high. They've prepared countermeasures to combat insurrections like this.
The senators of the Spinther family told to Caesar the plan to draft soldiers from the starving masses. They'll use this high tax to their advantage on more than one aspect.
They'll make as if being a soldier is their only way out by giving them tax rebates or sometimes exemption.
As time goes on, the war even became more deadlier. The group of Pompey are slowly getting exhausted, their enemy are using latest technologies such as the metal crossbows that they still can't figure out how to build and can only get them through scavenging after the battle.
Compares to the rebellion filled territory of the Julius Caesar, Pompey's territory are fairly stable. The taxes aren't exactly low, it's just higher than normal.
The people can put up with Pompey because the majority of the senators support him. Banters and insults are thrown to the supporters of Caesar on the eastern side of the republic.
There are tens or even hudreds of skirmishes almost every day on the borders of these two factions. Legionnaires of Caesar battled against the legionnaires of Pompey.
Roman against Roman using roman steel. It went on for more than 3 years already. Caesar can't advance, he can't conduct a naval attack as the Pompeians has built up a pretty impressive fleet with the help of the greeks.
Caesar has time and time again tried to bait the Spinther family on letting him borrow their own family fleet that consists of around 300 ships in total.
Each ship has their own scorpions on board, a special bow for the men that even Caesar don't know what it's called.
He was buffed everytime he tried to convince Lupus to borrow it to him. The reasoning was that he must get himself a proper admiral to command the fleet first before they'll let him borrow it.
That's his problem, there's no one that can meet the expectations of the head of the Spinther.
But how can he not end the war even with the support of the massive Spinther family? Well, Lupus kept his material support at the minimum. He deliberately sabotaged both sides so no one has the absolute upper hand. Add to the fact the his enemy has managed to build a massive wall blocking his only way towards greece by land.
He helped the Pompeians have a powerful navy through some accident of a trade ship getting salvaged by the Pompeian navy.
The ship was deliberately destoryed but not sunk. This ship contained the plans for powerful advance ships.
This stalemate went on for hundreds of years. There's no Pax Romana, the Roman Empire on the west against the Roman Republic of the east became the rivalry that went on for hundreds of years.
The constant warfare made these two nations weak. They can't have a moment of peace which ultimately lead to their own mutual destruction.
At around 1021, the two had high tensions on their own provinces. People wanted to end the almost a millenia long war and rivalry between them.
And on a particular stroke of weirdness in the history. Both are simultaneously invaded by barbarians which caused both to collapse and the local warlords and nearby nation struggled to fight to get the most territories of this sad day.
...
As the sun sets on the horizon, the world becomes more peaceful. The wind coldly blows that makes everyone shiver and wish they wore or can afford thicker clothes.
This is the scene on almost every age. From the age of the Roman Republic, to Empire, then to the medieval, and finally to age of information.
Many things happened, on the world. The fall of Rome through the hands of the barbarians, the hundred years war, Sengoku Jidai, the Three kingdongs era, the invasion of the Mongols, the first and second world war, and many more.
Including on the things that happened is the fall of the most prestigious, and richest family in all of Rome and history.
During the fall of Rome, they're having a banquet, and they're allegedly massacred to the very last one.
As the city burned on the background, so is their family properties, their gold looted, precious familial artifacts destroyed, and many more.
It's a bloody day for mankind as they just lost of the brightest family that this world ever produced.
But, did they really die at the Fall of Rome? Or they just became a secret society?
Spinther family as they're known are but a memory of the distant past. They've retreated to the shadows.
Everything about them disappeared as the flames engulfed the city. From their origin, to the specifics of their own technologies.
Everything was burned down.
The supposed family that could advance this world 500 years in technology disappeared without a trace.
But unbeknownst to everyone, they've personally orchestrated everything that happened on that faithful day.
They paid the barbarians to attack Rome and Athens so they could exit fron the eyes of everyone. They're not just the family who's aboard this idea, including the remnants of the Julius, Scipio, and the Brutus have joined this.
They saw this as some sort of second chance to redeem themselves so they jumped on the bandwagon.
Over the course of a whole millennium, the Spinther family or now known as the Aquila is the world's most powerful society. They have penetrated all walks of life.
They're like the conspiracy about the Illuminati, or some secret society controlling everything from the shadows.
They have presidents under their payroll. Generals waging their wars. A whole nation to provide them with funds. They're literally the controllers of the whole world as evident by their logo.
A giant eagle whose claws have sunk deep on the planet it's carrying.
A logo that can be seen on almost every products on today's world. Phones, cars, bikes, even missiles used for war, it all has this logo. A true showcase of their power.
They have absolute monopoly on the power that can change the world. A word from the head can start the third world war without opposition.
A nod from him can kill even the most protected president and make it seem like an assassination of someone.
He is just that powerful of a man.
It's currently around 2148 C.E. almost just in time for the discovery of a technology cache on Mars.
A particular man is in his office, holding a golden coin while sitting on the shower floor.
The coin has this weird eagle carved directly on its surface. The workmanship is uncanny, and it still looks beautiful even to this day.
"Where are you people? I don't believe you died on the fall of Rome. You're not that stupid to conduct a banquet during a siege. Something happened, something big happened." murmured the man while playing with the golden coin.
"Whatever happened, I'm going to uncover it, and I'm going to be the best archaeologist that ever lived!"
