Chương 40: Into the Grandline
Smoker once again tried to attack Alex, but Alex skillfully dodged him again making Smoker frustrated. "Do you only know how to dodge you coward! Fight me like a man!" said Smoker as he was getting annoyed at Alex for dodging all of his attacks. "It's just that you're a slowpoke Smokey. You're making this too easy for me." said Alex as he puts both of his hands behind his head and continued to mock Smoker. Smoker just gritted his teeth and continued his barrage against Alex but failed to hit Alex even once. "What's happening Smokey? Running out of juice?" Alex said while laughing at Smoker who was beginning to get exhausted by constantly missing his attacks. "Well it was fun Smokey, but I got to get back to my crew they might be on the ship now." Alex said as he sprouted his arms and held Smoker's legs on the ground as he started hitting Smoker from all directions using his assassin techniques to become unpredictable with his strikes. After a barrage of hits to a defenseless and weak Smoker, Alex finally finished his attacks and Smoker fell on the ground. He was about to leave, but felt something going towards his back as he heard a gunshot. As he turned around, he saw Smoker shooting at him using his gun and the bullet almost hit him but he managed to dodge it by tilting his head. Alex was surprised at Smoker's attack but he just knocked out Smoker with a punch and left him while he was going towards his crew's new ship.
As Alex went back to the ship, he saw the bodies of Marine soldiers who were either knocked out or killed. He didn't want to kill Marines since they were still people and had families to go home to, but if the situation really called for it, he wouldn't hesitate to kill them so that he could protect the precious people in his life. While he was thinking about these things, he reached the ship where he saw Braga with an unconscious Fraulein and Law with a big sack on his back containing their loot from the Marine base. "Alright it seems we're done here, we should get out of here before their reinforcements arrive." Law and Braga nodded and boarded their original ship and sailed after their new ship.
While Alex's group was sailing to catch up to Black Pearl, Franco's group on the Black Pearl were sailing away from the island to get to a location where they wouldn't be seen by the Marine reinforcements. "When are they going to get here? Did something happen to them? Are they going to be all right?" asked a panicked Petronia as she was currently navigating and steering the ship. "I'm pretty sure they'll be alright, I mean this is Alex we're talking about. There is also Law and Braga there, maybe Fraulein if he can fight. So we don't have to worry about them." replied Robin with a calm expression as she was thinking 'I hope nothing happened to them.'
After sailing for a while, Alex's group finally saw the new ship and sailed towards it as they were excited to use the new ship. As they were sailing, they did not notice the Marine reinforcements who were chasing them and trying to shoot them.
*BOOM* *SPLASH*
They were being bombarded constantly by the Marines' cannonballs and bullets as they were sailing towards their new ship. "Captain, we might get hit by their projectiles. Should we counterattack?" asked Braga as he was worried he was going to die by getting hit by a cannonball or a bullet. "Stand down Braga, we're not the ones who will be attacking." said Alex with a smile as he pointed towards a ship. Braga saw what he was pointing at and he saw a big black ship that is going towards them. "Is that our new ship captain?" asked Law as he was surprised at how large their new ship is. "Yeah that is our new ship. Damn, Merry really knows how to build and design a ship." said Alex as they were still getting bombarded by the Marines.
"We have to hurry or else we won't get to them and they might die." said a nervous Petronia as she was looking at Alex's group who was getting bombarded by the Marines. "Don't worry about that this ship is very fast and they can hold their own before we get there." said Franco as he was impressed by the ship's speed as he thinks that this ship won't lose to any ship in terms of speed. "Robin, ready the cannons and prepare to shoot." said Franco as he was steering the ship with Petronia. "Okay, just tell me when to shoot. I don't want to accidentally hit Alex's ship." said Robin as she was using her Devil Fruit to summon extra hands and load the cannons.
Alex's group was still sailing away from the Marine reinforcements and sailing towards the Black Pearl when a cannonball hits the small ship and damages the small mast of the ship. "Captain, we're hit!" shouted Braga as their ship began to slow down. "Don't worry about it. They're almost here" said Alex with a calm expression but deep inside he was sad because the first ship that he sailed on was getting destroyed. 'It was nice sailing with you, but we have to part ways here. Thanks for the lift buddy' thought Alex as he patted the hull of the small ship.
As Alex was thanking the small ship, Franco's group finally reached them and they went aboard the Black Pearl as they saw the small ship getting destroyed by the cannonballs. The crew was sad that the ship got destroyed since they journeyed with the ship and even if it was only short they will miss sailing using that ship.
"We have to go now or else we might get arrested by the Marines." said Alex as he saw the small ship sinking to the bottom of the ocean. "Yeah we should go already and this ship is pretty fast so we won't worry about them catching up to us. We're almost at Reverse Mountain, so we're almost in the Grandline." said Franco as he was guiding Petronia who was steering the ship towards Reverse Mountain. "What's the Reverse Mountain?" asked Petronia while steering the ship. "Reverse Mountain is where we will enter the Grandline. It is a Mountain where the water flows up the mountain and that's where we're headed." said Alex as he was looking at the silhouette of Reverse Mountain that is just ahead of the ship. "EH?! The water flows upwards how does that happen?" asked a confused Petronia. "I don't really know, but that's basically the Grandline. There are a lot of unknowns there." replied Alex. "Alright, here we go guys! We're almost at the Grandline!" shouted Alex.
As they were getting closer to Reverse Mountain, there were very strong and chaotic winds that were putting the ship slightly to the side and they were about to hit the mountain. "Petronia! Steer the ship to the left!" shouted Franco as he was guiding Petronia so that they won't hit the mountain. "The ship is too heavy and the winds are too strong! I need help here!" replied Petronia as beads of sweat are beginning to appear on her forehead. Franco seeing this, helped Petronia to steer the helm to avoid the mountain. "Hold on guys!" shouted Alex to his crew as they were being blown away by the winds.
The ship was getting closer and closer to hitting the mountain and they haven't changed their course. Alex saw that they were about to crash shouted at Robin, "Robin! Let's us our Devil Fruit powers to push the ship towards the stream!" Robin nodded and summoned her extra arms with Alex and the both of them put all of their arms on the right side of the ship to push it towards the stream. The ship was pushed a bit but it will still hit the mountain. "Push more Robin! We're almost out of the East Blue!" shouted Alex as the both of them were getting exhausted. The ship is fifteen meters from the mountain and they were coming in fast. "Captain we won't make it!" shouted Braga as he was panicking. "ARRRRGGGHHH!" shouted Robin, Petronia, Franco, and Alex as the four of them were trying their best to steer the ship away from the mountain. They were getting closer to the mountain and by a miracle, they managed to squeeze their way into the stream. The crew celebrated their success in making it into the Grandline. "We did it guys! We're now closer to Laugh Tale and achieving our dreams!" said Alex as he toasted to his crew and his crew did the same as they all toasted and celebrated.
'I'm one step closer to it. To Gol D. Roger's treasure and becoming Pirate King. So Grandline, do your worst. Whatever you throw at me, I will beat it and stand on top of this world.' said Alex in his head as he put his fist up in the air while looking at the horizon.
