Hearing what Mrs. Gu said, Gu Zhenkang nodded along, in full agreement. In his eyes, Gu Chaoyan's life was indeed not good enough when compared with Gu Ruxue.
He was just about to add another warning when his gaze clashed with a pair of sharp eyes, making Gu Zhenkang take a step backwards, subconsciously.
"Are you sure about this?" Gu Chaoyan asked coldly.
Seeing Gu Chaoyan's behavior, Mrs. Gu felt a bit frightened too.
But as far as she knew, Gu Chaoyan would not be able to do anything, otherwise she would not have been suppressed by the family for years.
Even if Gu Chaoyan possessed some knowledge in medicine, it didn't change her circumstances or status in the family.
She bellowed loudly. "You hideous weirdo, concentrate on trying to cure Ruxue, alright?"
Gu Chaoyan frowned deeply. She wished to slap this woman badly.
She approached Mrs. Gu and looked down at her from a commanding view. Mrs. Gu was from the South so she was quite short in height. "If Madame Gu had not given me a promise, I would not have been here today."
"Aunt Zhang, you want my life for your daughter? Well, I would very much like to see if you dare take it!"
Mrs. Gu cringed. She was frightened by Gu Chaoyan's current behaviour and demeanor.
Suddenly, she got furious.
What did this girl call her? Aunt Zhang? No one had dared to address her in this manner for years. Well, well, well, had she started to think of herself as someone outstanding? Just because she got the Wang Family's grace, she dared to humiliate her?
She raised her hand to slap Gu Chaoyan. "Girl, what did you just call me?"
Gu Chaoyan caught her wrist and Mrs. Gu could not get rid of it even with all her might. She called out to Gu Zhenkang with a wronged expression on her face. "Old Master, look at this hideous girl. She called me Aunt and wanted to slap me!"
Vein popped out on Gu Zhenkang's forehead and he glared at Gu Chaoyan as if he wanted to kill her. "Are you done or not?"
He was indeed furious.
This unruly child always created trouble. There was never peace in the mansion when she was around.
"Me? Creating trouble?" Gu Chaoyan sneered. "Please tell me father, what trouble have I caused?"
"A concubine's daughter is sick and a legal wife's daughter has to die for her sake?"
"As for Aunt Zhang… did I call her by the wrong name? I did not serve Aunt Zhang before, so the etiquette process is not yet completed… so, of course, she is just an Aunt for me."
"If I am wrong, please correct me."
Having said the words, Gu Chaoyan glared back at Gu Zhenkang.
Gu Zhenkang opened his mouth but was stuck, not knowing how to counter her argument.
The Gu Family members considered themselves to be cultured people, who always knew how to behave with decorum. But Gu Zhenkang had a bias inside his heart, so when no one pointed out those regulations and rules, he didn't think that he had made a mistake.
Since Gu Chaoyan was speaking the truth, he had no words to counter her.
During all these years in Gu Mansion, there had never been any distinction between the daughters of concubine and legal wife, because everyone thought that Gu Ruxue was the eldest lady with the most outstanding appearance. She had performed well in the court, and gained the title as the most pretty girl in the entire county.
Unable to come up with a retort, Gu Zhenkang said, "Alright, alright, that is it! Go and check on your Second Sister. Be very careful though! She is going to be the honored princess soon!"
Mrs. Gu was about to say something when Gu Zhenkang patted her shoulders and whispered. "Just let her cure Ruxue first."
