He can control the electricity and connect himself to the system... Could he actually get the train moving? The faint glimpse of hope shimmered in my heart.
"But... You need to get inside somehow..."
Then, a firm voice that could not be ignored, reassured us.
"I'm gonna burst up the lock with a bullet, so it will let go. The rest must create a distraction to turn the focus away from the end of the wagon, where the door is." — Ignis took the role of the leader when the doubts reached their highest.
"Say no more!"
The sound of the equipment letting go of the metal travelled through its surface, reaching my skin. Before anyone could realize what happened, an annoying voice called in a sweet tone, jumping on the roof of the wagon.
"Catch me, fuckers!"
In the low space that was above its top, the shortest man of us all didn't have a hard time finding his balance. With his fast footsteps, traveling towards the front of the wagon, the bullets and yells followed him, but didn't stop at our place.
"This fool. When he gets far ahead from us, he'll probably start a homicide."
"They heard a few people. We need to go too, before it's too late..."
Another noises arose next to me, one by one, with the bodies swiftly getting on the wagons top. Aura and Noctis got up, to catch on the silver-haired fugitive. Finding it too narrow, to move freely, I could only hear swears mixed with the bullets missing in the walls. They had difficulties catching to their targets, at the ceiling was arched, with only the lower parts of the bodies visible to the ones on the station. They were faster than ordinary humans, but it didn't mean they were invincible. The sounds coming from their microphones were slowly dissolving, as they got far away. The connection underground wasn't good anyways.
"Bellus, try moving closer to the end!"
The voice of the red-haired sounded in the earphone, as I felt Bellus disappearing from my left side. But then, another body tried to move by, in the tight and narrow space between us and the wall. With the face of Ignis appearing just before mine, he anxiously smiled, as if trying to tell me that everything will be alright. His messy hair stuck out from beneath the hood, swiping across my forehead, making it itch.
The bullet sounds have moved far to the front of the train, we hoped that no officers stayed in here. But just as Ignis' hand with a gun in it, sticked out from behind the wagon, a flying scrap almost pierced it thoroughly.
"We know there are more of you! Come out!" — The shouting has announced the
defeat.
With everyone that was left, I could hear the sighs of letting go of the hopes. Will the fight truly be... The last resort that was left to us? The stinging anxiety fell down my throat, burning me from inside like an acid. Can I watch a massacre... Be committed once again?
"Should I get rid of them?" — The cold voice of Orbis did the opposite to what it held.
In my heart, a still burning flame of hope rose even higher to the sky. The chill metal I was touching with my finger, and the studs which interrupted the smooth surface of it, started to get heated. Will he just ask to get rid of them? Did you ask the last time? Has anyone allowed you to take so many lives... Could anyone stop you from it?
"If there is no other way-"
"No!"
Just as I yelled these words out, a sudden pain came to my body. The heat accumulated under my hand, it was so immense that I could feel the metal bend under my fingers. I... Why didn't I feel it earlier? The hands trying to take mine from the place of the heat, Stella was pinning her nails into my body, trying to make my drifting mind come back. It was burning her too. She couldn't yell, neither could I. But the sounds of the studs, falling out of the metal wagon, their ringing, as they bounced of the metal tracks. Turning my head down, I realized.
"Ignis! The studs come out if they're heated. They bound the metal covering the windows! We can get into the wagon from this side!" — I yelled, as I analyzed the construction of the wagon.
It wasn't different from all of the other ones, with the difference that the unuseful anyways windows were covered with metal plate, fixed with studs. The ones from the place I held my hand at already fallen out, with the metal bending slightly. But...
I opened my eyes wider.
How did I... Even do that?
I felt his body pushing me to the side, as he moved closer. Touching the place where the heat still lasted, I could see his face turning towards mine with the corner of my eyes.
"How did you..."
"Please don't wait! They could come any minute!"
His gaze was left confused, as his eyebrows frowned in focus. Putting his hand on the metal plate, he closed his eyes in pain. Putting on a grimace, the sudden breeze of warmth surrounded me whole, as the air around him got hotter.
Pulling me away from the source of heat, Stella was keeping a hold on my arm. Her shivering body was covered in darkness. Turning my head towards her, I could see the expression of anxiety grow. But I couldn't react, as another studs fell one by one on the tracks.
The metal creaked from being bended, as well as Ignis did, from using his strength. Creating a passage wide enough for one person to pass through, it unraveled a dark inside of the wagon, with wires tangled all over.
Not waiting for invitation, Bellus pushed himself over to that opening, and disappeared inside in seconds. With Ignis holding his burned hand, he still watched me from under a suspicious glare.
But the feeling of ease didn't last long, as Meridies shouted:
"The sensor of the electricity in the tracks... They were turned off!"
A high voltage passed through them, so even people with special equipment like insulator shoes wouldn't pass freely. But now, as they were turned off...
The sound of a body dropping down on the tracks made my insides swirl.
No.
I don't want to die...
My stomach hurt greatly, swirling inside, making me slowly insane.
But just as I saw a flashing person through the crevice between the wall and the wagon, with a laser pointer targeting my head, the unexpected happen.
His body was surged with a lethal current, making him drop to the ground with agonizing scream. But I couldn't stare at his inert body anymore, as the train suddenly started moving forwards. The lights and the screams from the passing by station were like laments. With the last bullets reaching for our heads, the train accelerated, rushing even faster than it did before.
My hair was fiercefully swooshed by the passing air, as the lights of the station disappeared. It was futile to hope this will be the end, we are the trespassers and we have been acknowledged. I won't be surprised if ahead of us, there will be an obstacle.
Looking inside of the wagon, Ignis' expression went blank.
"He is in a trans... We won't get to tell him anything, or the train will stop. He needs to stay connected until we arrive..." — The worried words of his got over to us.
"We should open the door now." — Orbis announced, with a shooting sound following it.
"We should come inside, if will be safer for now."
The train passed the lights coming from the station. The yells of the officers were still echoing in the tunnel, even after a while of getting away. We did it. We got away. But why do I feel so... Devastated?
Moving all into the back wagon, it was dark and creepy, with countless wires and panels inside. Bellus was sitting on the floor, by the one in the center. With his eyes closed, breathing slowly, his hands were tangled in the cables scattered around. The five that were left of us sat silently, all with sour faces full of fear. Ignis' eyes still held a look of them, as if a sudden accusation would land any second. But before words could get out of his mouth, a uncalled for person jumped inside.
"Aaah! The run was so refreshing!" — The delighted voice of Silen made everyone's faces go numb.
The ones that followed behind him weren't as joyful. With Aura limping on one leg, grimacing with pain, Noctis tried to support her, but she only hissed.
"What happened?!" — Meridies threw herself immediately at her hurt colleague.
"I almost fell into the crevice between the wall and the wagons... It's okay. The pain will pass."
"The train is faster because all of the passengers on board have left." — Noctis added in. — "Did you get in smoothly? It took you longer than I expected..."
"Actually-"
Ignis has interrupted his own words, trying not to glance upon me.
But suddenly, the train started to slow down, trembling, as everyone searched around with their gazes.
"We're just around the place, but we need to leave the train elsewhere, for distraction. There is a tunnel nearby, I calculated the train to stop just by the passage. I also left a programmed order for it to start after we leave." — Bellus has woken up from his trans.
Everyone sighing in distress, we were once again all in one place, now staring upon each other. An anxious ease filled me, knowing that everyone here is alive. But all could go so wrong...
If only... I didn't discover that the covered windows could be exploited so easily...
Everything could be destroyed so... We are so weak... If not the violence we could use...
How did I even heat up the metal in first place? I...
"Prepare for takeoff." — Bellus stood up, going towards the exit.
With a heart filled with unknown, circling doubts and unanswered question, I glared into the disappearing tracks, hiding in the darkness. They were fading slower and slower. In just a minute, I will come up to the surface. To a place separated by two walls from the place of my origin. The Primus district. The one of the wealthiest, where people supposedly live in better conditions, and have far more careless life. I wonder how it looks like, up there...
Stepping of the back wagon, into the mysterious passage, no one from us knew, how much of a threat we have created. If only one step would be taken away, it would all be different.
