It's to my surprise that I found this series has a "harem" tag. It surprises me, because although the MC is surrounded by many beautiful women, as of chapter 200+ he never gets involved romantically with them, and he sometimes even actively avoids them. Though the girls do get crushes on him eventually anyways, and some of the girl's personalities are typically tsundere, they don't cross the line to overly annoying. Because I like the MC, and because the story is written in a manner that feels like the author plans things ahead and there is foreshadowing, I find the series enjoyable anyways. Plotholes not withstanding, there's a lot I can put aside for a decently written book. I'm more invested in his kingdom building.
At chap 70 currently. Although there are some unexplainable things, such as how the MC obtained all the knowledge he has for his hobbies, but if you can ignore these plotholes, the series is an enjoyable read so far mostly because the MC keeps a level head most of the times. The story parodies a lot of the tropes you often see in other cultivation novels.
one of the few good stories on webnovel. but the updates have stopped and no indication if it will continue. the raws are 600+ so can we have some transparency on what is happening?
chapter 228 the only reason it's barely 4 stars is bcs of translation quality and stability of updates, which is just a 3 stars. First and foremost, this novel doesn't have many fight actions, especially at the beginning. It's all about MC being very cautious, low-key, dodging all the flags, and not offending some big bosses. Second, MC is by far one of the few protagonists that actually use their brains. When I said he is going full-length to not invite any trouble. He IS going full-length to not create any bad flags. He is a protagonist who actually uses his brain and not plot armor. Third, MC is dependent on his System to survive. So don't be surprised that he is going to obey the System's options to the tee. And no, the System doesn't talk. It's just that the MC has full trust in the System. Fourth, the world is actively going against the MC. Even the unlikeliest chance will happen such as offending that one grandpa who is secretly an expert or that one bandit who is backed by a secret organization. So the MC is pretty much unable to do anything because almost everything that any normal being would do will end up offending a strong enemy one way or another. And this is why the MC had to rely on the System. The System is the only thing that can inform him which decision is safe and which action will lead up to trouble. So no matter what the System will say, the MC will believe in it and follow its words. Because if he didn't. Either he is going to suffer hard, or he will die.
Having read a bit over 200 chapters this novel gives a 'My senior brother is too steady' vibe, the MC has a path to get stronger while being lowkey but has to deviate from it to evade danger, which leads to him getting more and more responsibilities and fame
An excellent novel that's unlike anything Chinese. It has a really empathetic view on life, whether human or beast. There are a lot of thoughts put into the MC actions or non action. The plotlines are nice and there's no filler.

I really enjoyed reading this book and the story had a different progress and it was good to see some sane and rational person in cultivation world. hope to see more books like this
When this novel was only 40 chapters a year back I was sad as it was incredibly intriguing. I love a character that just won't get caught up in cliche predicaments. But after it was picked up the story slowly degraded and the translation has become actual dog water. I have no clue what went wrong here other than laziness and a lack of creativity.
I Just Won't Play by the Book is a story about Jiang Beiran, someone who transmigrated from modern day into a cultivation world. To survive, he is given a system that gives him rewards based on what choice he makes in certain situations. (The harder the greater the reward) So, I actually enjoy this novel despite it's problems, it's a good slice of life comedy novel. First off, translation quality. There isn't any obvious mistakes, and the writing quality is rather decent. There are some very minor mistakes, but you likely won't notice them unless your specifically looking. (4/5 stars) The story development. Like I said, this is a slice of life comedy novel, so story development clearly isn't the strong suit of this novel. I have read to chapter 158 and we still have yet to figure out how strong the main character is. As stated previously, the main character gets rewarded based on his choices in certain situations. He uses this to pick the past of least resistance, and usually gets stat points/skill points. However, we have yet to see a menu where we can view all of these, so the main character's power gain and current power is very ambiguous. Other than that, the story development is rather decent. Despite picking the "path of least resistance" every time the main character is given a choice, he is usually involved in high level stuff, so it doesn't get boring. Character design. I'm not sure if I'm biased because this is a comedy novel, but the characters are pretty decent for the genre. While some of the characters are rather static, there is a minute amount of character development here and there, even though some characters are clearly made for comedy tropes. The "romance" in this novel is mildly interesting as well, even if it's just girls chasing after the main character and the main character completely ignoring them, it makes for some good comedy. (4/5 stars) The world background is pretty decent as well, at least as far as cultivation novels go. The different regions are described fairly well, sects are introduced in various ways, and overall the world itself is described in a timely manner. Compared to most cultivation novels, the world building is more in-depth. (4/5 stars) Overall, this is a good comedy slice of life novel, don't go into this novel with a serious mind-set otherwise you will be disappointed. Everything is fairly good, but I might be biased on some parts. I give this novels 4.0 stars out of 5.
I think this story is pretty good from what I've read, but the translation quality of the new group is noticeably worse than the last. I can deal with less than perfect punctuation, but multiple misspelled words and wrong use of past tense in a single chapter is just lazy editing or lack of it.

one of best cultivation type novel which don't talk about cultivation, it is mostly about our standard transmigrated MC which has a system he uses to avoid death flags ,overall tone of delivered is good ,pacing feels also good,MC which one of the best things in this novel awesome he is smart ,cunning and don't run around saving people or finding treasures lying in the ground.
My biggest issue with this novel is the lack of Understanding regarding the MCs strength. He uses the system to define danger, but we have no idea how dangerous something is because we have no idea what his strength level is. Is he equivalent to a Mystic King? Emperor? Master? No clue.
It's an amazing novel, far better than the other novels or fanfics on this site. The only thing that could improve the quality of the novel would be the translation, they are some sentences or mistakes that destroy's the flow of the novel.
I like the direction of the book the trouble avoiding protagonist is cool. Tags should be added in description I read somewhere that this is a harem, which I’m not particularly found of, however it is a good read.

was a really good read for a while before it became generic and cliche, any sloghtly beautiful woman that has any sort of interaction with the mc will become obsessed and ''intersected ' so as you can guess it is a harem novel, he also become op relatively fast, at first it seems like it will be a novel about someone weak having to use his wits and knowledge to survive in the world but then it just became another op low key person with plot armour that is talented in everything. all in all just another novel that started as something interesting and was forced by degenerate commenters to become trash or the author is just good at writing the start of novels i am more inclined to the first one.
The first 40 chapters were interesting and the translation was pretty decent, but after the 40 chapters, it become barely edited machine translations, not worth your time.

the story is well developed it has a good characters and a very good dramatical display, the grammar is good to understand and read so it's a very likeable story

It's a fairly interesting misunderstanding-type story. Keep in mind that there were no updates for almost a year now before deciding to start reading.
I like the MC but I hate the brainless female characters. The admiration seem very forced and its ruining my enjoyment of the story. Please write in details about the system and less about the 'cool' mc

We need more! This MC is hilarious and the system is unique compared to other stories. I have read up to chapter 230 and I can say it's one of my more favorite stories
