𝐅𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐃𝐀𝐘𝐒 𝐅𝐋𝐄𝐖 by with the blink of an eye and Esmeray grew more miserable without her mate and contact with the sea. Although she was physically recovered, with only the two punctures on her neck still taking their time to heal, her emotional state was an absolute disaster.
She had gathered some names in the time she was there. On the second day itself only, she had grown tired of not understand the language of the demons, so when one of the kind-looking she-demon came in to check on her she used her magic to learn her tongue.
It took some time, but thank Goddess Selene that she was able to comprehend the demon kind's language soon enough.
Not many demons visited her as such.
There was Martin, the demon healer, who would come to make her eat some bitter-tasting medicines and check her for injuries. His kindness confused Esmeray but she concluded that if they were going to sacrifice her, then they needed her to be healthy. Maybe that is why he was being so amiable towards her.
But she couldn't help but like the demon a bit. Martin was a tall he-demon who wore a white piece covering, which the demons called 'clothes', and he had brown hair which was always unkept. His smile was infectious, but when those sharp teeth of him came into vision, it lost its charm for her. She wished that Martin will take some time for himself since she could see the tiredness written all over his face.
And then came the mysterious Alpha Lucian. Esmeray had thought that it was the name of the handsome demon who would come in daily to try and talk to her, but it turns out that Alpha is a title given to the ruler of the terrain. He called his kingdom 'pack' and his people 'werewolves'. Yet their deadly canines made her stick with her original name for them - the demons.
Lucian was handsome for sure, with his muscular built and sharp face but his dominance was over-bearing. Being a royal herself, Esmeray loathed when someone else displayed their power to her. She had to restrain herself from showing her true form to the demon Alpha, for she knew that they would sacrifice her faster if they knew that she was the future Queen of the Merfolk.
The water intake of hers drastically increased throughout the days since her body needed it to survive, no matter what is the form it is in. A mermaid without the sea or water is no mermaid at all. But her skin was drying up to turn deathly white, so she knew that she needed to get into the sea soon.
Which she had decided to do today.
Martin had declared that she was fully healed and ready to leave the hospital. Esmeray had almost squealed in joy when she heard the news but she knew that soon enough, she was going to die by the hands of these demons so she had nothing to be excited about.
Her mind was conjuring up a plan for her escape from this world for the past four days. She could smell the sea from here, her body aching for a good swim.
Practice and a lot of falls had finally helped her to start walking. Martin treated her like a child learning to walk and she was somehow glad he did. Swimming was way better than walking.
She had to wear clothes on her body, which according to the nurse whose mind she had meddled with was called a hoodie and shorts. Nudity was never an issue for her but it seemed that demons weren't comfortable walking around naked. Glad that the shorts didn't cover her beautiful legs, she quickly changed her attire in the washroom and walked outside.
After one last look at her confinement of five days, she pulled the door and walked out of the room.
But regret sneaked in her heart as soon as she did.
Not only the light was bothersome, but the demons were lurking everywhere. Some covered themselves like Martin whereas some wore attire like Lucian. Perhaps division existed among the demons as well and these clothes differentiated them.
The only thing common among them all was their sharp canines poking out of their lips. It was like they could bite her anytime now. That terrified her.
"We should get going," she heard a voice say behind her and she squealed in fear.
Lucian stood beside her, wearing a black shirt that hugged his strong muscles perfectly and jeans. Esmeray had never been more thankful for being a mermaid before this since the ability to look into a creature's mind and adapting it with their own had never been more useful. Strange enough, it was like their bodies were molded for adaption. The similarity between her ánthropos form and the demon's natural form was uncanny too. It was like they had a common origin.
"Yes," she replied after recovering.
The shock of being around him had subsided, but it was still there. She didn't like the way he looked at her - like she was a puzzle he was trying to unravel.
All she knew was that she wanted to get away from him as soon as possible. The connection between them was confusing and unwanted. The last thing she wanted him to find out is the truth about her existence. Those forest green eyes didn't remind him of the siren since the fear of the siren Queen was now replaced with anger. Esmeray wanted her revenge - there was no way she was going to let the siren Queen away with what she did.
Esmeray is a Queen and she told herself to start acting like one. Her intelligence was her most important tool right now which would help her escape from this situation.
Lucian nodded at her and then led the way for her.
Esmeray could finally taste her freedom. Just a few minutes more and she would be back to where she belonged.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐒𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐒 what Lucian called the house standing in front of them. For Esmeray, the beauty of the building was appreciable but for a princess living in a castle, it wasn't much.
Even Lucian had expected her to be mesmerized by its beauty, so he was dumbfounded when she gave no reaction and asked him where she will be staying for the time being.
The interior didn't baffle her at all, in fact, she could think of some ways to make it feel more homely. What scared her the most was the fact that she was living with a large number of demons here. The realization was suffocating.
She didn't dare to look around, but she could feel the stares crawling all over her body.
"Please take me to my room," Esmeray replied in the demon's language.
Lucian nodded and led her way to her room. He didn't even know the name of the stranger so he stuck with his nickname for her - Blue. Even though Martin had declared her to be physically fit, he had noticed the way her skin was getting paler day by day.
He was worried that it was the side effect of the vampire's bite she had experienced.
But the test gave away nothing. In fact, her blood matched with nothing on their database. He was shocked when Martin had informed him that her blood didn't even match that of a werewolf.
Then, what was she?
Had the she-wolf been stripped of her wolf when she was bitten by the vampire? Such things were unheard of but weren't impossible. Losing one's wolf is painful since the wolf is a part of you. Lucian can't imagine what pain the she-wolf must be going through.
It was a wonder that she was still alive.
As an Alpha, he had promised himself that he would avenge the death of Blue's wolf.
When they reached the guest floor, he opened one of the doors for her. Esmeray walked in after Lucian.
"Basic essentials have been taken care of. This would be your room for now. I would talk to you tomorrow and hopefully, initiate your pack transference. Are you sure that you don't remember the pack you belonged to?" Lucian said.
"No, I am sorry," Esmeray replied.
"Okay. I will see you tomorrow," he said and left, closing the door behind her.
Esmeray sighed and sat on the bed as soon as Lucian left. He always questioned her about the pack she belonged to. The nurse's memory showed that the demons lived in clans which they called packs. It was much like the Merfolk kingdom.
But she had no energy to dawn upon it. She needed to sleep and save her energy for tonight.
Because she was more than ready to leave this hell.
