Chương 17: Slavers Attack!- Part 1

"But Arrluk, remember, one thing, humans are humans, they are greedy, jealous, and ambitious, so you have to be on guard at all times. You trusted me and told me your secret, I'm pleased you found it in your heart to trust me, but not everyone is the same; even on summer islands, we have backstabbers, schemers, and traitors. Be on your guard."

"Yes, Miss Kojja, I know how and from whom I should protect myself. Thank you for speaking to me tonight." Arrluk bends a little to show his respect. After all, Kojja had told him about her homeland's secret, though not much but even a little bit mattered to him. Arrluk knew or felt he could trust Kojja Mo, daughter of Quhuru Mo.

Kojja smiled, seeing how Arrluk was polite. She stepped forward and pulled him in a tight hug. Because of the height difference, Arrluk's face rested on her soft breasts. Kojja didn't mind it one bit, but Arrluk's head was going to blast like a volcano as blood rushed into it. His nostril picked up her womanly scent. His half-mast boner became full mast again due to the intimate contact of skin between his face and her cleavage.

Kojja felt it too, his meat rubbing on her thigh, she gasped in shock at his size, but before she could tease him about it, Arrluk suddenly wrapped his arms around her hips, lifted her off her feet, and... jumped to his left without giving any warning.

This sudden turn of events shocked Kojja, but before they even hit the deck, a whistling sound erupted behind Kojja, and then a huge bang sounded. The whole ship rocked and swayed under the impact of whatever object had hit it.

Kojja loosed her arms, and so did Arrluk after falling on the wooden ground. They both looked at the fiery cabin that has been thrashed by what seemed to be a small burning boulder. It was the same cabin where Arrluk's companions were sleeping.

"No... No..." Arrluk looked horrified after the cabin burned in flames. Dhorrabhas and his mate were running around the deck to ring the alarm, some ran to pick up their weapons and mount their station, and some ran to douse the flames before they spread to other cabins.

Quhuru Mo, the Captain of Cinnamon Wind, exited his own cabin above with a sword unsheathed in his hands. Behind him were two half-naked middle-aged women carrying curved bows. But Arrluk wasn't looking at them. He was still looking at the burning cabin before, Kojja slapped him.

"Arrluk, get a hold of yourself. We are under attack! Go and help others in dousing the flames. If you cannot do that, then run below the deck and hide. Go!" Kojja shouted as she took his hand and helped him stand up. Arrluk nodded as he got out of his trance. Kojja ran towards her own cabin to pick her bow and help the red archers defend their ships. Arrluk also ran towards his cabin.

Travellers aboard the Cinnamon Wind stayed in their rooms, but some came out to help the crew and its captain deal with the enemy. Red archers ran up to the raised platforms with quivers full of arrows and bows in their hands.

Arrluk helped two sailors lift the barrel filled with seawater, which is used to douse the fire on a ship in an emergency. The walls of the cabins were covered with hides. Sailors were trying to wet them so that the fire can stop spreading elsewhere.

"Hayah!" The two sailors cried as they upturned the water-filled barrel on the boulder. Arrluk helped in that too.

Fissss~!

"Incoming!" Someone shouted on top of the mast as another burning boulder whizzed past them, missing the ship only by a few meters before smashing into the sea.

"It's the Slavers of Meeren!" Someone shouted again.

Arrluk also saw the enemy, but his attention was brought back by the crying sound of kids and the shouting for help.

'They are alive!' Arrluk and the two sailors immediately moved to push the cabin's broken wooden wall to create space for entering.

When Arrluk managed to enter the cabin, he was first faced with Grants, and Tom's half-smashed and burning bodies.

The other kids who slept on the bed were fine, and Ignis also survived since he slept on the other end of the room near his own sleeping place. Arrluk heaved a sigh of relief seeing them.

The sailors helped rescue the children and took them down below the deck. Arrluk didn't go with them; instead, he went back on deck to help the others. Arrluk knew his own survival depended on the Cinnamon Wind successfully resisting the attackers.

Arrluk saw three ships coming from the east. Quhuru was barking orders while red archers were standing ready with the arrows knocked.

When the enemy ships entered the archery range, the red archers fired their first volley.

Arrluk spotted Kojja and Xhasa Raa on the platform as they knocked another arrow and fired at the enemy ship and did so three more times.

"Arrows incoming!" Quhuru alerted everyone when he saw the enemy archers firing their own arrows with his far eye tool or telescope in simple terms.

Arrluk took refuge behind the mast from the arrows falling on the deck. He saw two unlucky crew members getting hit by the arrows, one survived with a bloody shoulder while the other fell down with an arrow to his head.

Thud!

Another person fell a few meters away from Arrluk. One of the red archers was hit by a stray arrow and fell down from the platform and onto the deck.

Arrluk peeked from behind the mast and saw the enemy coming closer and closer to them.

Arrluk mind raced with numerous consequences after getting caught by them. He didn't like any one of them.

'I know that the Cinnamon Wind still sailed the sea when the canon started but who is to say this world will follow the canon to the mark.' Arrluk prayed to god that this world would follow the canon or that his knowledge would do nothing to help him.

Another rain of arrows fell on the deck, killing four men this time. The enemy ship had already turned their direction to match with Cinnamon Wind was coming ever closer to them.

'Shit, I need to do something!' Arrluk looked around, and when his gaze fell on the bow of the fallen red archer, Arrluk suddenly had an idea. He quickly ran towards the body while keeping his eye on the sky for any attack.

Arrluk picked up the longbow and rolled over to the safety of the shed under the platform.

Arrluk called out the blue screen and quickly sacrificed the longbow in his hand. A grey light shot into the screen, and a line of text appeared.

Advanced Bow and Arrow Mastery

"Score!"

Arrluk quickly accepted the reward and assimilated with the new knowledge in his head.

'Lo and behold as a new Master Archer is born.'

Arrluk grinned as he felt the Goldenheart bow in his hands. He felt very familiar with the weapon as if he had been using it his whole life.

Arrluk shook his head to clear his mind and then ran up to the platform of the red archers.

"Arrluk, what are you doing here? Go down right now," Kojja shouted upon seeing him coming up the stairs. This was no place for a boy to stand.
