Aaron straightened up immediately. Staggering back, his eyes flew to the door and he blurted, "but your letter said five days!"
Diamant was already asleep on the bed and she laid unmoving.
"Malik had said... He told me it could be today...Malik... I should have just listened to him!"
He quickly ceased pondering the probabilities in his head. Instead, he rushed away from the bed and got himself a sword then his specter, each in either hand.
He dashed across the room, heading towards the door. Just as he was some steps away though, the door flung open.
"Who dare..." The enraging words died on his tongue, as the man that stared back at him pulled off his mask.
"Impossible." He said in a near whisper. "I watched you burn!"
He staggered back, his eyes on the man whose sword was dripping with blood. He could still hear the bells still ringing some distance away, even the clashing of swords in the hallway.
