That night, both Maya and Lucas struggled to fall asleep. So much had happened over the past few days that neither of them knew how to process all the information.
"Nova escaped and she's stalking Lucas, while Noah is suspected of hiding her and possibly helping her kill someone!" Maya whispered to herself in disbelief. Her life had been so boring and mundane up until that point that she thought she was currently in a dream. She pinched her arm to double-check and the pain immediately made her twitch.
This was not a dream.
Ever since she met Lucas, her life had completely changed.
Unable to sleep, she decided to call her sister. She didn't have any close friends and she didn't want to disturb her father so late at night, so she had no other choice. At times like this, she always spoke to her sister.
When Delilah saw the phone call from Maya, she looked at the caller ID and hesitated. She was still upset that her sister had backed out of their deal and decided to leave Vegas. But at the end of the day, this was still her sister. So, she picked up her phone and answered it, "What do you want?"
At first, Maya did not say anything. All Delilah heard was breathing on the other end. But a soft voice soon said on the other end, "I didn't leave Vegas, Dels."
Delilah immediately sat up in bed and her eyes lit up with hope. Had her sister changed her mind? "Have you decided to help me again?" she asked.
Maya shook her head. "Dels, Noah and his sister are being suspected of murder..."
Delilah furrowed her brows, "Noah Thompson? The guy that saved me and tried to convince you that Lucas is evil?
"I knew there was something wrong with that guy! I told you not to trust him!"
Maya frowned, "But he seemed so normal..."
"Oh, Maya, sometimes I wonder who's the older sister here. Your social life has been so non-existent that you don't know how to judge people properly. I knew straight away that there was something wrong with Noah. Why would someone be so obsessed with revenge that they would secretly work for their enemy for 4 entire years?! Even if Lucas is evil, don't you think Noah has some stalker tendencies and a serious case of paranoia? Also...he visited me earlier...and I swear he threatened me... You should have seen the look on his face. He was like a totally different person," Delilah babbled.
"H-he threatened you?" Maya asked in surprise.
"Yes. You should have seen the look in his eyes. If I wasn't in a hospital, I reckon he could have strangled me at that moment. That's how threatening he looked!" Delilah exclaimed.
"Why didn't you tell me about this?" Maya asked in concern. She thought her sister would confide in her about something like this.
Delilah sighed. "You were leaving Vegas anyway. I didn't want to scare you..."
In reality, she didn't want her sister to think that she had made the right decision in leaving.
"I don't know why everyone thinks I'm heartless. I admit I can be selfish, but I do think about other people's feelings before I do things..."
Delilah rolled her eyes.
"By the way...where are you staying tonight? Are you safe?"
Maya glanced around the unfamiliar room and replied, "I'm staying...in Lucas' hotel suite for the night..."
"Lucas' hotel suite?!" Delilah gasped. Although she wanted her sister to pose as her and get close to Lucas, staying in his hotel suite felt a bit inappropriate.
"Don't worry, he gave me a separate room..." Maya quickly explained when she heard the shock in her sister's voice.
Clearing her throat awkwardly, Delilah asked, "Have you...told him your real identity yet?"
Maya tugged the wig on her head and scrunched up her nose. If she had revealed her identity, she wouldn't be going to sleep with this uncomfortable wig... "I was planning to tell him the truth today before I left. I even booked a flight out of Vegas already. But Noah's identity was exposed. I didn't want to tell him at this time that I've been lying to him too. Especially when he's trying to protect me," she explained.
Delilah breathed a sigh of relief. As long as Maya didn't reveal her identity, then she still had a chance with Lucas Lee. Since god gave her this chance, she was not letting go so easily.
"Sis, I know you want to be honest, but with the current situation, I think it's best if you never tell him the truth. Either continue being me or let me take over. I'll think of something... Don't forget, he might end up being your future brother-in-law. You don't want to make things awkward when you meet again in the future, do you?" Delilah warned.
"But...he deserves to know the truth..." Maya said.
"Not if it hurts him..." Delilah rebutted.
Maya sighed. As she hung up the phone, she leaned back in bed and stared at the ceiling. Future brother-in-law? She couldn't help but feel a little hurt by these words. Would Lucas Lee really end up being her future brother-in-law?
While she was deep in thought, a rustling noise suddenly snapped her back to reality. It appeared to be coming from the living room. Maya checked the time. It was already past midnight and no lights were on outside her room. What was that noise?
She carefully stepped out of bed and walked towards her door. Slowly opening it, she peered outside and her heart began to race.
Thinking about the current situation they were in, she had a frightening thought.
Had someone broken in?
