"Why. Do. You. Desire. To. Live?"
The deaths speak in a deep intimidating cold voice that brings chills to the ones who hear his words.
The death speaks in human language to Mike who's about to lose light from his single eye.
His descend stops as it exactly stops in front of death.
Mike who has little vision in his eye saw the face of the death that is in front of him as the dim light from below shows the death silhouette's face.
Eel face, glowing white two eyes, with hundreds of layers of razor-sharp teeth as its long tongue slipping out from its mouth. The rest of his body cannot be seen because of the darkness wrapping around him except its face.
Slowly the light from below shines more as it's overshadowed by the death's giant body.
The death is huge even with Mike's dazzling stars view can't fully see the other end of its body.
This creature of death is invisible from Mike's eyes with the view of dazzling stars.
This creature can hide its presence and hide it's a figure very well even with its giant body.
This creature is the one... The one who makes him suffer.
This is the one that started on his journey to the depths of the ocean.
This is the one... Yet... Strangely, Mike didn't feel any anger towards this creature.
Anger... It's more like tons of complaints, which is funny for him to joke around even though he's dying.
(Geez... How long do I need to wait for me to actually die? This situation is making me awkward as time goes on...)
No matter he gave thought to his mind, Imuthis never spoke a single word since he was badly injured.
He can only look at the creature's eye he can't do anything other than that.
The creature still stares at him back and repeated what he had said.
"Why. Do. You. Desire. To. Live?"
(Why do I desire to live?) Mike questions himself.
He can't think straight nor think anything complicated as his brain is already in its last breath.
He can only answer with his honest thoughts.
Mike can't move his mouth but he tries to form up some words just by moving his lips a little. Not giving a care if water goes through his mouth because ocean water is already surging inside his body from his open wounds.
"W...Why." What he had said based on the gestures of his mouth.
(Why do I desire to live? Haha, Do I need to desire living to live? It's natural to live with all of you got, you know!?) This is what he wants to say but his lips can't form up some words.
(This will not be my mindset if Lucas didn't happen to sacrifice himself for me. I gotta make that man take responsibility after I die here.)
Even tho he sometimes wishes to die this is actually his real honest answer.
The creature of death still stares at him, not giving any reaction to his words.
(*Sigh* I guess he can't understand the words just by reading my lip nor read my mind like a magician or something.)
Out of nowhere...
"I see."
The creature has spoken.
As it spoke, the water around them rumbles as its words are heavy enough to make anything crumble from fear.
(Ahh... I'm about to die. My mind will stop functioning. But geez, How long do I need to fucking wait?)
With its dark grey eyes, the creature looks closer to him.
The creature's eyes are glaring at him as it's face gets closer and closer.
Out of nowhere, the creature's tentacle grabs his head to pull him closer.
The creature speaks slowly, "Why. Do. You. Desire. To. Live?" repeating what he said again.
Not getting his intention Mike only stares back not daring to answer.
What did he mean, if he answers will he be left alive? He will die either way.
Again the creature speaks again with a more menacing tone.
"Why... Do... You... Desire... To... Live?"
This creature really does eager to know what's Mike desire.
Mike can't think anything more complicated than this no way he can answer deeply about it.
However, as he stares at the creature's fearsome eyes his mind turns into like clear water for a short moment.
This is something Mike can't believe.
The creature is curious, seriously curious about how Mike survives in this harsh environment. This creature drags many humans under the ocean but everyone immediately dies like a fragile glass that can't handle the single grip from its caring grip. Even the ships are failed to meet the creature's expectation.
Everyone died... except Mike.
And that's why this creature is curious.
For some reason, this information surge through his head in an instant moment giving him time for an answer and the time to know the creature's intention.
Still, the fact that this creature is scary doesn't change.
Mike answered the creature's question. Not by letting him read his lips but just let his brain do the work.
Like linking himself to Imuthis he let this hideous creature read his mind.
For years of surviving in this harsh environment, there are two reasons why he resolved himself to resist death.
One is wanting to go surface once again. Not being able to see the grassy lands before his death is something he doesn't want to happen. If he dies no one will be able to see his body if he's underwater.
Such a simple fact but that's one of the reasons he strived for living.
And the second is...
(Satisfaction.)
He doesn't want to die without giving his all. No... that might be something like an airhead, the naive protagonist will say.
Mike wants his satisfaction to the utmost limit.
He wants to be satisfied again by the foods from the surface.
If he dies he wants to let his bloodline continue to be satisfied. He's a man after all.
If he dies he wants everyone to remember him as someone who achieved great things for heroic deed or a villainous deed to be satisfied. He seriously doesn't want to be remembered as someone's son, he doesn't want that to happen.
If he dies, he wants to be someone like those extra characters where they use their life to sacrifice for someone. 'Or die by the old age', this is what he really wants... He just wanted to say the sacrifice part because he thinks that it's cool. Blame Lucas about that, he makes such a cool last impression there's no way Mike doesn't want to do that.
And lastly, the most wanted satisfaction in his whole life...
(My satisfaction will be satisfied if before I die... I WANT TO FUCKING BEAT THE GUY WHO PUNCHED ME AWAY FROM THE BOAT!! Do you think I'm a fucking idiot to let that shit be forgiven!? Yes, I'm the fucking cause of his friends' death but he fucking killed me!) *He just declares that he died even tho he's still babbling about tons of complaints*
*Because of intense pressure, lack of air, stress, pain, blood loss, lose limbs, and lack of sleep, Mike loses himself.*
This is what Mike's reason. It was such a disappointing reason if one would expect about something like "I want to see my friend once again." or "I see those creatures lurking at the surface they must be up to something so I must go to the surface once again to defeat them because I got stronger!" Like hell, Mike would still remember those creatures after years of suffering.
As Mike gives his reason- his real motive, he still continues to blabbers about something in his mind. One could guess that Mike forgets that he's about to die.
The creature leans back after hearing his answer. Closing its eyes the creature laugh as the water shakes wildly like an earthquake.
Mike forgot the creature's existence that he was surprised by its sudden laugh.
Like Mike feels that this scene is somewhat familiar the creature finally stops laughing for a second and stare at Mike back with a grin on its face.
Mike stares back also grinning as he thinks of something interesting that he could not hold back his own laughter after realizing what's behind of all meaning of this.
(You motherfucker, Imuthis.)
