Chương 32: Chapitre 32: Nature versus Technology

Lutsey's POV

The sound of a metal bird's propeller cut me off in my despair. I looked around before I saw, with horror, that it was to my right and that I was well aligned. I would not react in time to dodge it! So that's how I'm going to die... Killed, without having been able to defend mine.

Me, in thought: Little sister...Big sister...Mother...Father...My brothers and sisters...I failed...I'm sorry, for not having been up to the task.

Suddenly, as I was expecting death, a dark mass hit the device, turning it upside down. It tried to straighten itself up, but the weight of the creature prevented it from controlling its bird. Then, when the bird stalled, it could not react in time and crashed, the windows shattered, and a flame began to come out of one of the engines. I saw the window open, before the black mass came back and grabbed the tawtute by the head.

Then it flew away with its booty, like a predator retrieving its prey. From here I could hear the screams of fear from the victim as she put it into another floating hill. Then I heard a cry of pain before I saw a helmeted head flying, his face petrified with fear. The creature spread its dark wings, before uttering a strident cry towards me, as if to tell me not to give up.

That cry...That black color with those red blood-colored features...

Me: Txon?

No sooner had she finished her cry than a cloud of Ikran came from all sides and attacked the forces of the People of Heaven, turning the odds in our favor and giving hope. The first victims were the birds that had come too far forward to go to the aid of their comrade, no doubt.

Tahni: Mother heard us!

I wept before this spectacle, regaining hope to defend my people.

Me: Yes...She listened to her children!

And with these thoughts, I held out my rainbow to the sky, uttering a warrior's cry while Txon took flight, joining me with a blood-red Ikran with bluish features. We still have a huge metal bird to stop, to defend our land and our people.

Tsylan's POV

I was still looking at the two women in my life. Both of them continued to stare at me with their neutral looks, making it clear that it was not them.

I was really split, not knowing where to swing. Until I remembered something. Something that hurt me deeply and that continues to ravage me today. But the faces of my niece and sister brought me right back to where I started. Nevertheless, I had to make a decision.

I didn't know how long I would remain so uncertain, since time probably doesn't turn the same way as it does with the living. However, I finally managed to make a decision, even if it broke my heart. I stood up and stared at both, sure of my choice now.

Lutsey: I feel that you have made your choice, child of Gaia.

Me: Yes.

Julia: So who do you choose?

I turned to the native, with a tender smile.

Me: You, Lut. You have never betrayed my trust, and I know you never will.

The two smiled, before a white flash blinded me with a distant voice.

Voice: So be it, child of Gaia.

Me whispering: Delane...Kendra...Forgive me.

When I opened my eyes, I saw multiple orange eyes looking at me, with astonishment, but none of the ones I was looking for.

Without paying attention, I hastened to get up and look for Lutsey or even Joltsyn.

Female voice: You won't find our ol'oeyktan, Tsylan.

I turned my gaze to the source of the voice and recognized Nilya, the mystery woman as I liked to call her. And each time, the same detail that tortured my mind. Those famous emerald green eyes so familiar...

Me: Where are they, then? And I have the impression that there are people missing.

It worried me a lot to see so many absences.

Nilya: They left with warriors to defend our shrine.

Me: What? Why? What's going on???

Nilya: They gathered with other clans, under the banner of Jake Sully, to attack the People of Heaven.

Jake... If I caught that jerk... What did he expect? Without further words, I hurried up to the highest branch of Kelutral, taking care to take some fruit to feed my avatar body, which hadn't been fed for two days. I am amazed to see it still in good condition after that. Eywa no doubt.

Once I arrived, I hurried to call Txon. She soon appeared and I gave her a quick caress with my right hand to his head, before making the connection and flying away.

During the trip,

Txon : You look scared, hunter of the sky

Me: I am. Lutsey and his clan have thrown themselves into a fight that cannot be won.

Txon: You're worried about your female. It's understandable.

I'd rather not get up and focus on the path. As soon as I arrived, my worst fears were confirmed. The GDR forces were decimating the indigenous forces, without difficulty, and were getting dangerously close to the sanctuary. I had done well to also take my bow and arrow before leaving, but I could not see how to reverse the trend.

Suddenly, I heard a kind of song that sounded like some kind of rallying. Looking around me, I saw a horde of Ikran starting to gather.

I began to understand, from there, where this voice came from.

Me: Txon, can you come down please? I'm afraid Lutsey is down there and as I know her, she will fight to the end.

Txon: I see her sister fighting on the ground more than her.

Me: Either way, we have to go down. Lutsey will never forgive herself if Joltsyn dies.

With that in mind, we went down to the forest.

Once we landed, I went down and caressed his head tenderly, the worried expression on his face.

Me: Can you protect Lutsey for me, if you meet her?

Txon: I'll look after your female, warrior of the sky.

I'm smiling. I could always count on my flying friend.

Tsylan: Thank you. Don't take any unnecessary risks!

Txon sneered, pointing out the contradiction of my request with the previous one, before detaching the link to fly away. She had to have the last word... With that thought in mind, I set off, while the song of Eywa invaded my mind.

Joltsyn's point of life

I looked up at my attacker's face and saw Tsylan, who motioned for me to shut up, putting a finger on his lips. Soon after, a tremor was felt in the ground and the next moment I saw a herd of Angtsik and Taloiang attacking the Sky People head-on and destroying the metal armor with their powerful charges.

The Sawtute inside were either impaled by the horns of the Taloiangs or crushed by the legs of the Angtsik. As for the Sawtute on the ground, they were either crushed by the massive brothers of the forest or killed by the Natang pack dragging behind.

This spectacle brought back the hope that I had lost. The hope of being able to live, without suffering the tyranny of the sky. Tsylan seemed less pleased with the spectacle, looking at the scene with a certain sadness and regret in his eyes. Was this related to his sister and niece?

We barely had time to enjoy this victory when I felt, through our bond, my sister growing weaker and weaker. She was in danger!

Lutsey's POV

I continued to struggle with renewed energy until Jake Sully reached my level.

Jake: Ma olo'eyktan, I'm going to need your help to get to our target.

I was tempted to retaliate coldly, but the current situation did not allow it. Nevertheless, I noticed that some of the straddle riders who had survived the carnage were gathering around us and some of them had orange eyes.

Me: You can count on us, Toruk makto.

We did our best to give Jake an opening, with the help of Eywa. In addition, Txon looked after me, as if Tsylan had asked him to do so. It was strange, but I would take care of that detail later.

Jake, although I refused to admit it, did not lack courage and boldly threw himself at the bird. He killed anyone who dared to come between him and his objective.

I didn't have time to see more, because a metal bird chased us and Txon was already busy with another one, so he could help me.

It was at that moment that a migraine started to set in and I was feeling more and more nauseous. I had to let Tahni guide me, as she was no longer able to lead. My vision became more and more blurred and I could only see the distorted silhouettes of the trees that my Ikran was dodging as I heard the deafening sound of the metal bird chasing us.

The only solution I could see to get us out of it was to go back up and hope that an Ikran or straddle would help us.

Tahni: Save your energy, little hunter.

Me: I can't...My...It takes me too much....

Tahni: Hold on! We're going to make it.

I was out of breath and sweaty due to the fatigue of the fighting, but also, the feeling of this morning's meal was still coming back. I was doing my best to stay focused, but to no avail. Suddenly I heard the sound of an arrow smashing a window and the sounds of a metal bird crashing.

As I turned my head, I perceived a semblance of arrows with red and black feathers stuck to the window where the pilot was. It seemed familiar to me...

Tahni: We return to Mother's nest.

Me: Yes...

I did my best to remain conscious for the duration of the journey, joyfully noting the danger that threatened our people, destroyed. The duty accomplished, the Ikrans returned to their nests. I managed to hold on until I landed.

Then, exhaustion overcame me, and I fainted.
