Chương 12: Ruins of Civilization part 2
. . . a beautiful (I would assume at one time) but dead orchard. That is what I was greeted with on the other side of this big gate. On my right and left hand sides sprawled smaller trees in subsequent rows which now are nothing more than withered husks of their former selves. Wonder if they grew grapes? Wait, grapes grow from vines right? So they must be something else.
Far out in the distance at the end of the path several roofs and walls can be seen as well as trees similar to the ones outside the wall. After getting up and dusting myself off the best I could I went down one of the rows just for the heck of it. This actually yielded something, old tools and a wooden person.
Yes, a wooden person.
On the ground in front of me lay a humanoid figure made of of wood. The difference between all the other wood objects (trees and tools) around me and this figure is that this one is dry, with no slime covering it at all. This thing has a mouth and eye holes but no ears or any indication that it has or had any flesh. It had long really thin arms and hands with three long twig like fingers.
I leaned over a little to pick up the body but the second my claw made contact it crumbled to ash. Nothing I can do about that now can I. Maybe there are more like these around here that I can get a look at before heading on.
There were many more of these figures collapsed in the rows some even holding tools meant for tilling and harvesting. I would say these are the main workers of these groves, I bet they have a storehouse up ahead on the path.

After exiting the many rows of dead trees and continuing down the road. I finally ended up in the middle of a large square, not an actual one of course but a communal square where people would gather and trade or at least I would assume that it is. All that once was is nothing more than a memory.
All the buildings in the surroundings are demolished or overgrown with now dead vegetation. There is a large fountain in the center of this square but it is filled with algae and mildew, if it was cleaned I think it would look quite nice. There are also some really big trees which dot the surroundings, and as I look up I can actually see some buildings high up in the branches. There are some rope bridges that extend from the houses which connect them all together.
Damn, I wounder how I can get up there? Is there something built into the trees? I bet I would weigh to much anyway, I would fall through the flooring and I would splat on the ground.
Looking back around on my level there are many paths leading in all directions, but there is only one that caught my attention and that one would be the biggest path obviously. The second reason it caught my attention is the fact that the largest object I have ever seen sits at the end of this path. Once again this would be a tree, this one on the other hand actually seems to still have leaves on it which is most peculiar.
I have a good feeling about this.

Several minutes of jogging later and I am standing infront of another door. This one is carved into that giant tree I was talking about. Now that I am this close to it, it feels like that tree from Avatar with all the blue people. Although it has more of a solid looking trunk with no gaps in between.
Hopefully this door is not locked because there is no way I am using my head for this one. As I got in position to push open the door, it opened for me before I even touched it.
Ok, so that just happened. I do not think I am here alone.
