Chương 181: Dismantling a drake (2)

That was the simple part. Now I have to cut the scale loose. The difficulty here lies in the fact that I can't see what below the scale. Just sliding my knife under the scale is already a tight fit and the scale's edge is pretty sharp. I have to carefully maneuver the knife to sever the connection holding the scale in place without cutting myself.

Ouch!

Well, objective failed successfully I guess. When I felt the scale coming loose I couldn't help myself and push the knife in deeper to finish the job. Now I've got an ugly cut on my fingers because my hand touched the edge of the scale as it moved.

With a quick thought, the cut is healed. Since this is just virtual reality I have the luxury of continuing in top shape. There's a ton of scales left so I can keep practicing.

Insert the knife, slide it in, find the connection holding the scale, and sever it.

I repeat that same set of movements for every scale and get cut dozens of times. Only when I'm on the finishing line do I feel like I finally got a sense of where that darn connection is and how to sever it without getting my fingers cut.

And it only took an entire drake full of scales to do it!

With the scales gone, I quickly remove the horns, claws, teeth, and eyes before I start to cut the meat into parts.

I spend the entire morning finishing up the drake and finally get done in time for lunch. While dungeon-delving there are usually multiple carriers who accompany groups that hunt prey of a similar level to a drake. Working together they can dismantle a drake much faster than I can ever get it done solo.

<You did pretty well, I read online that dismantling a drake is seen as quite a chore for people who have yet to reach higher levels in their dismantling skills.>

Well, you would be wrong. It is still quite a chore with a higher skill level and the only thing that changes is the quality of the products as well as a moderate increase in speed.

<So gloomy and negative... I'm sure some lunch made by Pata will cheer you right up.>

I think it is far more likely to put me into a food coma. How did the meeting with Sean go?

<Splendidly! You have to make sure to deliver 200 percent from now on so we can get a good first experience. If we can make this a business model we will have a monopoly for a few years. Imagine the profits.>

I enter the employee dining hall and find only Edward present. Where is everyone?

<I'm in a meeting with Darwin, Jade and Monica are murdering adventurers, and Valeria is being jittery at the reception desk.>

Valeria is still behaving like that? Maybe we do need to do something.

<What can we do? We are in the open and they are in the dark. Any move from our side will immediately be seen and cause them to change plans. We just have to wait it out.>

If you say so.

"Hey Pata, what's for lunch?"

"Today's dish is an omelet with thinly sliced orc ham! My new special sauce has been perfected so be ready to have your tastebuds undergo nirvana."

I barely manage to sit down and take another look at Edward before Pata places down a filled plate before me. But what is Edward doing? He's just sitting there.

"Edward?"

I call out to him but there is no reaction. Is he dead? As I want to stand up and check a tentacle plops onto my shoulder and pushes me back down.

"Not to worry my Guy, Edward is just in a food coma after my new special sauce a little too hard. But it's all good, I toned down the dosage on your portion."

That is only a little comforting. I make the mistake to glance down at my plate and the moment my attention is on the dish I can't escape its spell.

The omelet has an excellent fluffy texture that is slightly chewy on the outside and allows you to roll it up and experience the taste of thinly sliced ham surrounded by a fluffy omelet with an inexplicable taste in the middle.

The special sauce's taste cannot be described by words. And so the madness of gluttony descends and overwhelms my senses, judgment, and determination. Like an old movie that reaches the end of the tape everything suddenly stops.

I wake up with a start nearly falling off the chair I sit on. I'm still in the dining hall and Pata seems to be washing dishes.

"Finally up again? I didn't think my special sauce would still have such an effect even after I adjusted the amount."

"How long was I out?"

"45 minutes maybe a little more. Edward only woke up ten minutes ago so you're well within the acceptable range of food coma duration."

45 minutes...

I need to stop coming to this place but the food is just too good.

I check my status and see that enhanced stomach capacity has reached level 2. No wonder I don't feel so full anymore. If I keep eating here I will be able to level that skill at a crazy speed albeit ending up in a dozen food comas.

After shaking off the remaining drowsiness I stand up and leave the dining hall. Guess I'll go check up on Valeria.

I walk into the reception area and see that nothing has changed. Wait, something feels wei-

*Crash*

rd.

What happened just now and why are there so many people in the reception area all of a sudden?

My eyes dart around furiously as I try to take in what changed within that millisecond I felt weird.

There's a giant crater right at the entrance where Darwin and a couple of scary-looking people are facing each other right now.
