Chương 94: We are moving (2)
"Darwin used to be holed up in his lab all the time but nowadays he also barely visits it."
"Do you know why?"
"When I asked him he answered that he was missing the inspiration to conduct fruitful experiments. Also, we have our own lab area at HQ so there's no need for him to come over here as long as it isn't anything major."
It's already late so we say our goodbyes. Navi informs us that she will be handling the necessary paperwork and we can move in anytime we want before she turns and starts skipping down the street.
"So, when do you want to move?"
"Don't ask like that! We are moving tomorrow so let's go home and pack our things. I talked it over with Navi while we were looking at the houses. Tele will move our things in the morning and we can unpack in the afternoon."
"What about our jobs?"
"Navi told me that Darwin advised you to take a break to move so no excuses. As for me, I also took a few days of leave."
"Then let's go home and tell the girls."
"Sure but on the way home I want to pick up some orc meat. Pata gave me a recipe for sauteed orc meat and I want to try it."
According to Melody's wish, we take a little detour past the butcher to get some fresh orc meat. Then, once we are home Melody gets to cooking while I start packing our stuff into boxes that have already been prepared, presumably by Tele.
Thankfully we never had many possessions so packing everything the two of us own doesn't take too long. Quinn and Cassidy come home later than usual since they spent some time with their friends. We explain the situation to them over dinner and both of them are excited at the prospect of living in a house and having bedrooms of their own.
After dinner, they immediately scurry off to pack their things with an enthusiasm I rarely see especially from Quinn. She notices my intrigued gaze and shrugs her shoulders.
"What? Should I not be excited about getting a room of my own? Just thinking of all that storage space makes me shiver!"
So she doesn't care the least about moving. All she's thinking about is the additional space she can use to fill up with her books and towers of documents. Melody also witnesses our little exchange but all she does is chuckle while placing more kitchen utensils in the boxes.
After packing up almost everything there is to pack we tuck in early.
The next morning we send off the girls to school after giving them the address of our new house. At nine o'clock sharp, Tele's jelly maid form appears in the middle of our bedroom. She looks around and is suddenly hugged by Melody.
Her blue color shift into a vibrant pink and she tries to escape Melody's grasp but is unable to do so.
"Glad you could make it Tele. We are already done packing so could we trouble you to transport everything?"
Transportation is Tele's job as a porter so I'm pretty sure that Melody is simply trying to tease her. When Tele turns from pink into a light shade of red Melody finally releases. The jelly maid immediately makes a break for our stuff and teleports away with it.
"She's such a sweet one, isn't she? Seeing her turn all red makes me want to hug her even more!"
"You know that she a monster that can kill you without the slightest bit of effort, right?"
"She would never! Tele is such a sweet little girl she couldn't hurt a fly."
Navi, any comment on that?
<Tele truly is shy when it comes to interacting with people. However, that shyness stems from the fact that she usually kills people before they can interact or even lay eyes on her. She simply doesn't know how to deal with people who get so close to her.>
Is there any chance that she would react violently to Melody's actions?
<I don't think so. From what I can tell she enjoys being hugged by your wife but can't categorize that feeling.>
That's a relief. I wouldn't want Melody to get hurt because she teased the wrong monster.
<Melody has been very accepting of all monsters she's met so far. She's like a saint who doesn't care about the looks of people she meets.>
Yes, Melody is a saint, that we agree upon.
We leave our old apartment and head for our house. Arriving there we unlock the door and find all our things neatly placed in the large living room.
We spend the rest of the day arranging the furniture in the much bigger rooms. We'll need to go to the mall tomorrow to do some shopping. Thankfully the weekend begins tomorrow so Quinn and Cassidy can join us and pick some things for themselves.
Sleeping in the new and much bigger bedroom feels so strange. I had grown accustomed to the pattern of light that would shone through the window onto the ceiling whenever a car drove by. Seeing a different pattern flash across the ceiling and much less frequently at that made me uncomfortable.
Still, with time I will adapt and become accustomed to this pattern.
Melody doesn't have such problems. While I'm still lying awake in bed being bothered by flashing lights and the sensation of being in a new place she is already fast asleep.
An unknown amount of time passes but finally, I too can drift off into sleep.
Morning comes all too quickly and I find my mood to be a little cranky. While Melody prepares breakfast the girls come into the kitchen. Quinn is outright glaring at Cassidy who blushes slightly while avoiding eye contact.
"Quinn, why are you frowning like that? You'll get wrinkles, you know."
"Mom! Cassidy snuck into my room last night and slept in my bed!"
Melody and I both look at Cassidy in surprise. She usually wants nothing more than to be rid of Quinn and have a room to herself. Being the center of attention, Cassidy turns even redder as she looks down.
"I was lonely and the dark room was scary."
