Chương 72: Supply convoy destruction (3)

I start to gather all the blood around together. The sight of a bloodstain on the ground separating from the grass and forming a small trickle towards a growing puddle of blood is slightly creepy. Not that anyone besides me has the leisure to look around and notice.

Once the puddle has reached the size of an adult's spread-out hand I stop gathering more and move the blood to the soldier that is standing opposite the spartan I am clinging to.

When the blood is close enough to the soldier's boots I wait for the opportune moment. The next time the two shield walls crash into each other and the soldier tries to get in a quick stab with his sword, I shoot forward and send two energy bites the soldier's way.

The soldier isn't expecting the sudden attack and lurches back but blocks both energy bites with his shield. While shifting his weight, however, I move the blood under the good his weight gets transferred on. His boot fails to find any traction to stop his backward momentum and so he slips.

My spartan carrier doesn't let this opportunity pass by and thrusts forward with his lance right into the soldier's vulnerable throat. The spear passes through the skin with little to no resistance and ends the soldier's life. Too bad I didn't get the kill for that. I could use the EXP.

<Good news then. This is clearly a kill assist so you will receive some of the EXP that the kill rewards. Keep up the good work!>

Come to think of it, why aren't you giving me those you have received EXP announcements anymore?

<On one hand, I am too lazy to say that all the time and on the other hand, we only provide such announcements to newbies until their first evolution or so. It's to burn the info that a kill gives EXP and level-ups into your brain.>

But that's the same for humans. Why are you repeating common knowledge?

<Not everyone who dies within the dungeon is an adventurer. And even if they are it is always good to remind them.>

Sure.

Back to the battle at hand, the fallen soldier has been replaced by a new one who is now constantly eyeing me. However, since his full attention isn't on the fight anymore he struggles much more to stand against my spartan carrier.

Unfortunately, that is the only good thing happening. The Spartans are outnumbered and it won't be long until reinforcement from the main camp arrives. Shield walls are only effective in one direction so if we get surrounded things will go badly. For the time being the lamias are covering our flanks and back but they won't last under the continued assault of multiple soldiers.

Well, nothing I can do about that. I'll just continue as before. I snap my head forward in a faint and pull back before the soldier can strike me. He was concentrating so hard on not moving back that he completely forgets that you can slip forwards too.

The blood slides below his foot and he fails to reverse the strike aimed for me and tumbles over. A downward thrust of my spartan carrier and that soldier is done for too.

The gap in the enemy lines is still open so I take a little gamble. I focus as hard as I can and let all the accumulated blood shoot up as a small jet of sanguine liquid.

The sudden movement where nothing should be catches the attention of the soldiers flanking the position of the fallen one. They turn their heads slightly and their attention decreases only for a moment. Like snakes, haha, two spears flash and pierce through them. The injuries aren't lethal but they soon will be.

Flustered by the sudden change combat dynamics the wounded soldiers reel back. I don't have enough blood on hand to make them slip completely but I try my best to animate some of the splattered blood on the ground. The soldiers are caught by their second line but still die to the second series of spear thrusts from the Spartans.

The soldiers' front line begins to cave in as the gap becomes bigger and the apart as advance like hounds that have tasted blood. The pool of blood under my control grows ever bigger.

As the troop morale on the soldiers' side drops and they get so paranoid of slipping that they forget to look out for the spartan spears coming their way I can already taste our victory.

The enemy line breaks completely and they split up into small cells that retreat frantically. Shouldn't there be a commander here or something?

The Spartans ignore the retreating soldiers completely and run for the supplies. They break, torch, and kill whatever they can get their hands on.

The reinforcement from the main camp still hasn't come. Instead, the commotion over there is getting increasingly hard to ignore. Are those greek goblins, harpies, and the minotaur that strong?

<I should probably inform you. That grand offensive that Argus mentioned would happen sometime soon was rescheduled for right now. Your desperate last-ditch effort kind of attack was repurposed as a diversion. The wall on this floor has already been breached so it's only a matter of time until you will be overrun by fleeing adventurers and soldiers.>

They are doing an all-out attack now? They could at least tell us!

<They have no way of effectively contacting you. Additionally, you and your group are a suicide unit. You aren't expected to survive.>

Great, I'll tell my Spartans that we are about to be overrun. I turn my head to my spartan carrier and get his attention.

"Hey, spartan guy, we are about to get a flood of retreating guys here. Might want to reposition and prepare."

"Who cares? Our mission is to destroy as many supplies as possible before we die and nothing else. Now stop slacking off, red snake. You should work hard too!"

Great, just great. The muscleheads don't care.
