I lay down on my bed and stare at the all so familiar ceiling that I've been looking at what feels like all my life. All the memories of this life I left behind come back to me. All the rules and proper etiquette I had to follow. The proper lady I had to be. It feels like everything starts to suffocate me that's when I remembered something wonderful about this house. I jump up from my bed and quickly make my way to my old trusty window.
I look out of it and I remember exactly where to step not to fall off the roof and where to reach the tree to escape without my parents knowing.
I bit my lip and quickly lock my door. I put on something warmer and then very carefully make my way to the ground. I almost fall off the last branch but luckily find my feet. It feels as if I'm in a spy movie and I sneak away into the fields. I remember how I would escape to my own private getaway. It's not far from our estate. It's an old abandoned cottage. I don't think anyone has claimed it for them but first I have to get a horse, cause there's no way I'm walking all the way.
I get to the stable and I can't believe what I see. My horse is still here and looking good. I walk closer and move slowly towards Blitz, my last horse I rode when I finished first in the national show championship competition. I remember how my mother drilled me to be the best. I didn't really mind her doing that as I loved riding.
"Hey, Blitz. Are they being good to you?"
I shake my head as I realize I'm talking to a horse.
"Ready to go riding, boy?"
I quickly saddle the horse and then we ride straight to the cottage. As I get closer to the cottage I see a few changes. It looks like someone has been around these parts and as if it has been restored it a bit. I slow Blitz down and then gallop slowly towards the cottage. As I get closer I get off the horse and tie him securely to a tree. I walk carefully towards the cottage. I knock on the door but no answers. I try to open the door but it's locked.
"That's strange?"
I look through the window and see new furniture inside.
"Someone must've bought this cottage."
I turn around and walk back to Blitz. I feel a sadness filling me as I've always thought that I would buy this piece of land once I've moved back and started my own firm.
"That's quite a loss, Blitz. What am I going to do?"
I don't have a choice but to go back to the house. I return my horse and then maneuver myself back into my room. Almost immediately there's a knock on the door.
"Just a minute!"
"Hurry up, senorita. Your mother is looking for you."
"Okay, tell her I'll be down in just a second."
I quickly put away my warm clothes and go downstairs. A familiar voice screaks through the walls and I know exactly what waits for me downstairs. My younger sister Tina.
"Buuunnnnnyyyyyy!!!"
Oh boy! I don't think that I can handle this. She comes running up to me with her arms extended to hug me. I can't avoid it as my mother is watching my every move and if I don't do want her princess wants, I might just lose my life. I brace myself for her to squeeze me so hard that I can't breathe and then I force my famous fake smile.
"Tina!"
"I can't believe you're here! I've missed you so much! Where have you been? Why don't you come and visit more?"
"Well, as you know."
"Did you hear what I won with my last horse competition…"
The high pitch of her voice hurts my ears and I don't listen to another word she says as I know exactly what she's talking about, It's all about her achievements and her trophies. She's not someone that likes to listen, she likes to do the talking. I nod my head at all the right places and smile where I need to. I watch my mother and know that she's satisfied with my "listening skills" I finally get a word in.
"That's so exciting but if you'll excuse me, I need to go to bed.Jet lag and all you know?"
"Of course, please go and rest, we have so much to do tomorrow!"
"Tomorrow?"
"Yes!!! Me and you!!!"
Oh god, no! I quickly make my way back upstairs and try to wash her words out of my mind. I get into bed and struggle to fall asleep but then a wonderful thought crosses my mind. At least I'll have a good cup of the best hot cocoa and good company. I fall asleep immediately with that thought in mind.
************Knocking**************
I open my eyes and look out the window. The sun hasn't even peaked its head out yet. Who could possibly be awake at this hour?
"Bunnyyy!!"
No, god no! I hate that nickname. I hate that she wakes me at this hour. I don't like hervery much right now!
"Go away!"
"But I can't we have so much to do today!"
"Come back when the sun is out."
"I can't, mom said you would love to come with me!"
Urgh! Damn you mother.
"Okay…urgh…give me ten minutes."
I get up and start to get ready to go where ever the little princess wants me to go. Don't get me wrong. I love her but she's just too much for me. I open the door and there she stands before me all perky and ready for the day.
"So, where are we going?"
"To town of course, we have a lot of shopping to do. We need to get you a new outfit and do your hair and…"
My ears have been trained to automatically shut down when Tina speaks but one thingI've heard. We're going to town and I can get my cup of hot cocoa and maybe a sane conversation. I walk arm in arm with her downstairs and everything is still a haze for me. We get into the limo and make our way to town. When I finally get in a word, I ask a very important question.
"So are we going to Sam's first?
She laughs as if I've told her a very good joke.
"What do you mean Sam's? We don't have time to sit around and drink some ridiculous cocoa at an establishment like that. I don't know why you even mix with those common folk anyway, you can't be seen with them. You're just wasting your time with them. You know that right?"
There's no use in answering her. She doesn't care about my answer. I can't believe I'm going to miss the one thing I've actually was looking forward to and maybe it wasn't just the cocoa I was looking forward to. Maybe I was secretly hoping I might get to see a certain bad boy again. What am I thinking anyway, he probably won't even be there. God,I really hope he would have been there. I guess I would now never know.
"Dammit Tina!"
