Neither Wolf nor his off-spring Little Wolf had made any attempts to permanently leave the farm since Wolf's return last summer. Girl had never returned. Together the two often went out to survey the surroundings. Stronger and healthier than the lone wolves in the area, the two easily chased away anything that came too close, and that included wildcats and cougars.
Little Wolf leaped up onto the tractor, his tongue lolling from his mouth as he waited for a scratch between his ears. Bilal complied and then did the same for Wolf whose legs didn't allow him to do much jumping these days.
"Come on boys. Let's go home and get some lunch." They followed the tractor back to the shed. Raj was in the front yard holding a handful of weeds and searching for more.
Bilal's heart lurched in his chest. He stopped the tractor. "Raj. What do you have there?"
Raj shrugged his shoulders and then ran over to his father to show him.
