"Now Imani, I told you not to call me at work because I take my job seriously," Lola stated with a firm voice the moment she answered Imani's call and the corners of Imani's mouth turned up. "What do you need from this serious worker?"
She glanced at Lucas as he leaned closer to her like he wanted to hear the conversation even though he had a heightened sense of hearing and moved the phone from her left ear to her right ear. "Lola, are you alone?" she asked and she heard her friend talking to someone on the other end of the phone followed by the sound of a door shutting.
"I am now," Lola said after a little while. "What's wrong? Do you need me to come home?"
"No, I'm not home. I'm... at Wolfborn," she replied just as Lucas' phone buzzed in his hand and 'Ella' flashed across the screen.
"Wolfborn? I- I'm sorry, I don't understand. Is there something going on between the both of you? By both of you, I mean you and Lucas and if there is something going on..." Lola trailed off and Imani guessed she was grinning like a maniac.
"I'll call you back," Lucas said after he answered the call from Ella and quickly hung up before turning to face Imani again.
"Oooooh, I heard him. What are you guys doing?" Lola asked in a suggestive voice and Lucas raised his brows while Imani let out a harsh breath as she rubbed her right hand on her thigh.
"Lola, I um... I need you to help me get the Lancaster flu," she stated and Lucas pressed his lips together, wondering what the hell the Lancaster flu was.
"Why would you want the- Wait, what?!" Imani winced at how loud her friend was. "Why the hell do you need that?!"
The Lancaster flu was what Lola called the Sirizan virus when it first showed up. She called it that because patient zero was a man that had no form of identification on him when his body was found in an alley. He had been wearing a Lancaster coat and after a couple of days, the people he had been in contact with started showing symptoms of flu. Only a couple of people know about patient zero because it wasn't on the news and Lola was the one who told Imani about it.
"Sorry. I'll keep my voice down but seriously, what the hell?" Lola added just as Lucas' phone began to buzz again and he declined the call when he saw that it was from Ella.
"I can't tell you over the phone but help me get it, Lola. Please."
"... I'll make a call now but Imani... is everything okay?"
"It will be. Bye, Lola." She hung up after Lola said bye and plastered a smile on her face as she glanced at Lucas before she remembered that she hadn't asked him if she could stay with him. "Um, Lucas. Can I stay with you till we find a cure for the virus?"
"Sure," he replied.
He had heard when she told Lucille that she'll stay with him after the both of them came out of the lab and he guessed she was staying because she was scared of spreading the virus among humans. No human has been infected with this new virus yet and Lucas wanted it to remain that way because if a human got infected, the virus could be traced back to Wolfborn.
Imani's phone buzzed with a message and Lucas' eyes darted to it, thinking it was from Lola. It wasn't her. It was her brother and the captain of The Night Force, Henry Sutton. Lucas hated the man just as much as he hated Renfield Sutton.
HENRY SUTTON, 1:18PM: I'm on my way to your house and you're going to tell me why you're in a relationship with that dog.
Lucas' jaw clenched as he read the message because he knew the man was referring to him and Imani turned off the phone's screen. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that she was looking anywhere but him.
"Are you moving in today?" he asked as he realized that he still hadn't moved from Vinay's old house to his own house in the middle of town and she remembered that she needed clothes and other essentials. She had to call Lola to send it over and she wasn't sure how the lady would react to the news of her moving out.
"Yes," she replied before Ella began to call him again and she looked up at him when he got up from the couch.
"I'll be right outside," he said and she nodded as he walked out of the room before her phone buzzed again.
HENRY SUTTON, 1:18PM: Does he have something on you? Is that why you're dating him?
She ignored his message because she absolutely didn't like what he called Lucas in his previous message. He always behaved like an asshole whenever he thought she was dating someone. He seemed to think no one else should be with her but him even though she always told him he was like a brother to her.
HENRY SUTTON, 1:19PM: I know you're getting my messages so reply me. I'm four minutes away from your place.
Her phone began to ring with a call the next moment and she frowned because she thought it was Henry but it was Lola instead. Imani could hear music playing on the other end of the phone when she answered the call before Lola cleared her throat.
"Where are you in Wolfborn?" her friend asked and Imani furrowed her brows, wondering why she was asking.
"Uh, Bostel. Why?" she asked as Lucas walked into the room.
"I just found out that dad added some sort of warning system that makes the car stop whenever it's close to a werewolf territory," Lola stated, clicking her tongue. "Anyway, I'm almost at Bostel."
