Chương 38: Baby Logan

"Oh my God, Layla... Congratulations!" I was smothered by all the girls in the conference room, including Hugo and dad. Danny couldn't help but smile from ear to ear as dad engulfed him with big bear hugs.

Dad cried for like an hour. He hugged me and couldn't get enough of patting Danny on his shoulder. He continued to thank him for finally making him a grandpa. Which I thought was ironic, given we already have Zoey.

I know dad loves Zoey, but I guess it finally dawned on him that he was old and had become a grandpa. Of course, Karla took this as a free pass to pick on him, pointing to his gray hairs and pointing out how he was becoming slower at their morning jogs.

"You guys made my entire life better than it was before. Just wait until your mom hears about this. She's going to be thrilled." he says as he grabs the phone out of his pocket and dials her number.

"Dad, wait." I stopped him, grabbed the phone away from him, and hung up the phone call.

"But, ladybug? Don't you want mom to know?"

"I do... It's just." I say, looking at Danny, who winks at me as he continues to talk to Hugo.

"I had a surprise in mind to let you guys know about the pregnancy. I mean, I know Danny kind of ruined the surprise for you and Karly, because he's as excited about the baby as I am... but I was hoping you could keep it a secret until next week after we have the baby shower for Riley, please, dad?" I begged, hugging him around his torso and giving him my puppy eyes.

He chuckles, rubbing my back softly with his hand and kissing my forehead. "Very well. I'll wait until then. But... This is going to be something really hard, Ladybug! You know mom loves Zoey, but she keeps saying she can't wait to see you and Danny have your own baby. And I honestly couldn't wait to see that too. I'm so happy for you kids. I'm glad I made those paparazzi follow you guys and write about a romance between you two from the beginning. It brought you two back together, just like it was meant to be."

"Wait... What?" I say, parting from him and making him look at me with fear in his eyes.

"Oh, dad. You're caught. I told you you'd get caught sooner or later." Karla says, making dad look away as if he hadn't heard us.

"Dad, you didn't."

"I... I'm sorry, Lay. I was just so tired of seeing how you two gave that -I love you but can't be with you- look at each other all this time. You know, I always hated Trevor, but it wasn't much because I could see the asshole in him, but because I knew you were meant to be with Danny. Sweetie, Danny has loved you for the longest. I hated to see the two of you suffer. I had to do something to bring more fire to the spark between you two."

I sighed in iritance, but I had to give it to the old man. He was slick, and I guess he did Danny and me a favor. Those tabloids did make me think of Danny more.

Amid our conversation, Danny's phone began to ring. He picked it up and answered with a smile, "Hey, sis. What's going on?" he replied, looking at me as he placed his other hand inside his pocket. "What? Now? What hospital?" he says, making me worried.

Could something have happened to Riley or Ruth? Oh God, Zoey!

My heart began to pump rapidly, making me tremble.

"Ok. I'll be on my way. Stay by her side until I get there," he says as he hangs up.

"What's going on?" I asked, getting extremely worried.

"Riley's water just broke. She's in the hospital. The baby's coming." he says, making my eyes wide with joy.

"Really? Oh my God, we have to go." I say, letting him grab my hand, and we begin to walk quickly out of the room.

"Please keep us updated, guys. I wish Riley the best of luck for us and tell her congratulations. We'll come by once we're done here." dad says, patting Danny on his shoulder.

"Thanks, Felix. We'll keep in touch. Let's go, baby." he says as we walk out and make our way to the hospital.

Baby Logan was not due until the beginning of November, but I guess he was too eager to join us. I think now, his baby shower will be more of a welcome home baby. I can't describe how giddy I feel right now. I'm so excited to meet baby Logan finally.

We made our way to the hospital, registered as guests, and made our way to her delivery room. I have to admit; this is getting the best of me.

As we get to the rest area near the rooms, we see Charles, Riley's husband. He looks like a total mess. His hair was disheveled, his shirt was partially untucked, and he was sitting down, chewing on his fingernail as he looked spaced out.

"Charles?" Danny calls out, making him jump up. "Daniel? You guys are here!" he looked on the verge of crying. Poor guy! I wonder if this is how Danny is going to be.

"Why aren't you in there with her?" Danny looks at him sternly, making Charles look between us.

"I... I fainted. The doctor took me out and made me rest here while I returned. Ruth is in there with her. I'm just waiting on the doctor to come back with news. I tried going back in there, but... It's... It's too much. I couldn't. It's scary in there, Danny!" he almost cried.

I wanted to laugh; he was a mess.

Danny rolled his eyes, sighing as he turned toward me. "Baby, are you tired? Why don't you take a seat? I'll go ask for an update and get you something to drink." he says, taking my hand and leading me to the seating area.

"I'm fine. But a bottle of apple juice does sound nice." I say, making him cup my face and smile.

"Got it," he says as he gets up to grab a juice off the machine for me.

As he returns, the doctor comes out, taking off his gloves and face mask. "Doc!" Charles whisper-yells, running toward him.

"It's a boy!" he notified us, making us jump with joy. "A boy! It's... It's a boy. I have a son! A baby boy!" he jumps with joy, grabbing his hair and crying joyfully.

I was so happy for them. One day soon, Danny and I will be in the same situation. I can't wait to have that day get here.

For now, I was eager to go inside and finally meet baby Logan.
