Chương 30: Baby Steps

I woke up feeling so happy this morning. I lay on my stomach with my arms under my pillow. Danny had his arm and leg wrapped around me, making me sigh. The sight of him sleeping next to me always made me feel happy. I leaned over, kissing his nose and making him smile. If you told me I'd be married, in love, and his arms three months ago, I'd probably laugh and say you were crazy. But yet, here I am, so in love, married, and in his arms.

"Mornin' beautiful," he says in a groggy-husky voice. I smiled, turning my body and cuddling in his chest, "Good morning, my handsome husband." I reply, making him smile. "What time Is it?" he asks, still with his eyes closed and placing his chin on my head. "I don't know. But the sun is just coming out. Do we have to get up already?" I ask, hoping to stay like this forever.

"Yeah, I'm afraid so, baby. We have a few things to go over before heading to work," he says, making me groan inwardly. I pout, looking up at him with my puppy eyes. He chuckles, placing a kiss on my forehead. "You know, you can always quit and stay home with Zoey? Take care of her and your needs, shop, anything. I'll take care of everything." he says, sighing and kissing me again before getting up. I chuckle, kissing his lips, "And leave all the fun to you guys? I don't think so." I say, making him laugh.

While he went for his morning workout downstairs, I went to check on Zoey, who by now should be waking up. I tightened the strap around my robe and opened the door, and saw she was out of her little bed. Danny finally converted her crib into a big girl bed, and she has been handling it like a champ.

But, when I got closer, I realized she wasn't there. I could hear her singing in her bathroom with the door slightly opened. I leaned closer, smiling wide as I listened to her sing, "Skip chu I woo tee-woo, skip chu I woo tee-woo." I place my hand over my heart as I listen to her beautiful voice. (btw- I know you just sang to it, didn't you?) 😜

She has come a long way in such a short time. I have not given up on trying to teach her to potty train. Her tantrums have minimized, and she's learning not only to coop with us, but she has become more social, thanks to our supportive families.

I open the door slightly more to peek inside and see her sitting on her toilet, peeing all on her own. I gasp with excitement, covering my mouth. "Hi, baby. Good morning, my beautiful!"

She glances over with wide eyes and giggles when she sees me, "Hi, mommy, Zoey, go potty." she says, wiggling her feet. "You are. Oh, baby, I am so proud of you." I can't help but engulf her in a big hug making her giggle. "I wuv you, mommy," she says, placing a slovery kiss on my cheek. It melts my heart, and I can't help but hug her tighter, kissing the top of her head.

"Oh, Zoe, I love you too. You are such a big girl; I am so proud of you, baby." I say, cupping her face and kissing her f0rehead. She giggles, placing her hands on either side of the toilet and biting her lower lip.

The door opens wider, revealing a curious Danny by the door, wearing nothing but basketball shorts and covered in sweat. "There are my two gorgeous girls. What's going on in here, huh?" he says, leaning against the door frame and crossing his hands over his chest. "Daddy, Zoey, go wee-wees," she says, making me giggle. I kiss her on her forehead and look at Danny with a smile nodding my head in agreement as I bite my lower lip in excitement.

"You did? Did mommy help my princess go potty this morning?" he asks, and Zoey and I shake our heads. "Nope, my big girl got up and went to the restroom all on her own this morning, baby. Didn't you, my gorgeous?" I ask Zoey, making her giggle. She covers her m0uth with her hands giggling. Danny's eyes widen in surprise as he looks between Zoey and me.

"Wait...for real?" he asks as I stand and wrap my arms around his neck and kiss his lips as I nod in agreement. "Yeah, all on her own. She got up like a big girl and went to the restroom all by herself, baby. Can you believe it? I mean, it's baby steps, but still!" I say excitedly. "She's making major improvements, aren't you, Zoe-baby?" I ask her while still hugging Danny around his neck, his hands around my waist.

Zoey always giggles when we hold each other like this, she loves seeing us hugging and being affectionate. I love this day already, and nothing can ever happen that can ruin my mood. Not even the fact that I may have seen Trevor.

He is history, and I will never go back to him. He'll just have to realize that he and I are over forever and that I am now with Danny.

✨✨Later that morning, in the meeting room✨✨

"Ok, I think that's all for today. But, I do want to thank everyone who participated in last night's runway show. I was notified of a few setbacks we had, but, the show was still a success." Danny says with a smile as we sit in the meeting room. He checked on the status reports, and to our surprise, sales had already taken off to an extremely good start.

Everyone cheered and smiled. Dad was incredibly excited about the news, and if the sales kept at this pace, I might be able to stop working here and think of a job at a hospital or clinic. But- if Danny opens the daycare, I may ask him if I can keep working there instead.

"To compensate everyone, I will be treating everyone to lunch today. You may come by during your break to the cafeteria where my team from the restaurant will be cooking for you guys," he says, making everyone cheer again. He had talked to his manager last night before we drifted off to sleep and told him to send a group of his staff to cook here today.

I can't tell you how proud I am of him. He's so amazing, and little by little, I am starting to remember why I fell in love with him years ago. I could always see past his bad-boy demeanor and the warm heart he hid from everyone.

I smile, biting my bottom lip. He sensed me staring; he turned with a smile toward me, winking and making my stomach flutter. Things were finally starting to look good for dad and Danny's company. I was glad his hard work and dedication were finally beginning to pay off.

"Now, before I go, Hugo would like to have a few words with you guys. So please listen up," he says, giving Hugo the signal to stand. Danny sat beside me, smiling and holding my hand. He lifts my hand, kissing my knuckles.

Hugo cleared his throat and walked to thefront, "Now," he says, fixing his coat and clearing his throat. "As you know, the winter season will be here soon. We need new designs, new fresh ideas we need to work fast. We have too much competition, and with new designers, things are getting harder out there. Daniel and I talked to Sebastian this morning, and he is willing to cooperate with ua by investing in our company, so I need you girls to give it your all this new season. And- to make matters more fun, he was thinking of a new idea." he says, giving us a mischievous smile. No wonder I had seen Bastian in Danny's office earlier.

I wanted to say hi, but I was busy with a project my sister wanted to discuss with me. Rip;et is almost due, and, y sister is helping me with all the details. Since Riley loves wolves, we decided to make it a wolf theme.

"As I said, winter is coming, and let's pretend for a second, ok? You guys are high school students, beautiful young girls... Just beginning to blossom." he says with such enthusiasm.

"Winter in high school means not only winter break and Christmas, but to a young high school girl, it also means high school winter ball. So-" he says, clapping his hands. His assistant for the day, Ingrid, begins passing out a large brown leather drawing pad to each of us, making me feel intrigued.

"Danny, Sebastian, and I, along with Mr. G!" he says, pointing at dad. "Decided to make this upcoming season more fun for you guys. We will select one of you to help me design the entire new upcoming season of formal dresses for our for the upcoming high school balls. Depending on the quality of our collection, Sebastian will invest a good ten million dollars in our group to get the dresses out to our entire nation AND the possibility of us regaining our foot and top rank back into this business." the girls gasped; they all seemed so excited as they began to murmur among them.

I looked at Danny with my eyes wide open. I already feel like I have so much piling on our plates, but the least I can do is try my best doing this project.

I needed to do my best, and I knew Sebastian; the only thing I needed was to appease his sister's style. As long as the dresses were something she loved and it's something she would wear, then he'd be more than happy with them. This means that he would be more than willing to invest, and our company would get out of debt. Dad would be able to pay back Danny, and Danny would gain back his share of the company.

"You don't have to if you don't want, baby. We already have the project to think about, and as I promise, I'll do it. You'll have the daycare soon." Daniel says quietly while the girls and Hugo discuss the details.

"Are you kidding? I'm excited. I want to do this for you... for me...for the company." I say, cupping his cheek, leaning in, and kissing his lips.

"Are you sure?"

"Definitely," I say, wiping his lip to take off the smudged lipstick I had left behind.

My days are going to get so busy. From Zoey starting school to work and this project, getting the daycare underway, I'd also have to organize the baby shower for Riley. Her tummy was starting to get a little low, so I think she may have a few more weeks before giving birth to little Logan. I'm excited to meet him. Hopefully, this will encourage Charles to marry her finally. I can tell she really loves him.

The meeting concluded, and we all went back to work. I was excited about this project, and I was eager to start designing. Sitting at my desk, I got a phone call that made my heart drop.
