Chương 19: Chapter 19 - Dilemma and Discovery

Spencer was in a dilemma, despite his intention to go to Mars, he had no actual means to traverse space. Out there, with the lack of air, he can't rely on his wings, without them, however, he couldn't figure out a way the distance and travel across millions of miles to get to his desired destination.

There were no biological means to cross this hurdle. He couldn't go and find a creature that could overcome such a feat. At least, not on Earth, and the technology that would allow him to travel unhindered was thousands of years out of his grasp.

He could only wait for technology to be built in the distant future, or he could find a way to get there.

"Wait, didn't the Martians get wiped out?"

Spencer had forgotten this little detail that was detrimental to his plans. The Martians were wiped out in the future. This only left him one choice, he could only find a way to get to Mars before he loses his chance to attain their abilities forever. Even though killing the Martian Manhunter was also an option, he didn't want to kill any members of the Justice League, unless necessary.

Scratching his head in his frustration, Spencer decided to make this his top priority for the future, but he would still stay focused on other ways that he could step into the realm of the supernatural abilities that he craves.

Moving on from the topic, Spencer could be seen walking in a rocky landscape filled with trees. Wearing makeshift pants that he made from the fur of a creature that he killed a few days ago, Spencer was trying to look around to see if he could find any form of intelligent life. From being here only for a few days, he already concluded that he most likely was in a period just before the Ice Age began.

Continuing to walk for several miles nonstop as he didn't need to rest, Spencer had come across many other beasts while he was exploring. Many had tried to attack him in an attempt to kill him, but they weren't a threat in his eyes and were easily dispatched. They were nowhere near the strength and fierceness of the creatures of the old world Spencer was used to killing.

Spencer had absorbed a few of the creatures he killed to see if he would gain any new traits that could benefit him in some way. The first creature he absorbed was similar to a modern-day rhino, but it was larger and was covered in fur.

By absorbing this creature, Spencer gained fur patterns in his demi-human form along with the scales he had before. The creature did not give him any substantial increase in his strength or any of his base stats so he ignored the changes.

The rest of the creatures he had absorbed didn't give him any further changes, as he already had the more dominant traits of dinosaurs. The traits of these weak mammals couldn't possibly compare to the ones he had already absorbed.

Spencer quickly lost interest in the absorption of these creatures, as doing so would no longer benefit his growth. He continued to explore the world as it is now, trying to see what he could find.

A few months passed with Spencer doing nothing but exploring the new terrain. He was already growing tired of it, he was becoming lonely from the lack of any other forms of intelligent life, he craved interactions that didn't involve extreme violence.

The land was becoming colder as time passed by. The rocky terrain was gradually covered with snow and ice, most of the animals have begun searching for food to keep themselves from starving.

Spencer was an exception, as he does not need to eat for an extended period, his body was capable of maintaining its functions without food due to the survival conditions of the past era.

In his exploration Spencer finally had come across a small tribe of primitive humanoids. He wasn't sure but they were most likely at most one step away from being called the modern-day humans, the Homo Sapiens. While they were bipedal, and barely had any fur, they still carried a tinge of their predecessor's animalistic features.

At the beginning of this discovery, he was happy to have found this tribe, but he quickly grew conflicted about how he should go about approaching them. He was just as wary of them as they would be of him.

Spencer observed the tribe from the shadows for the past few days; examining them and learning how they acted, so he could come up with a way of approaching them without the need for conflict.

Before he could do this, he would need to find a way that he could communicate with them. The language they were speaking sounded a mixture of howls and gurgles; sounds of various animals morphed to their liking.

He was hiding behind an array of bushes at the edge of the tribe's borders, keeping his eyes on the movement patterns of these primitive humans. He came up with the idea of absorbing one of them without alerting the rest of the tribe to his presence.

Erasing his presence, he stayed hidden in his wait.

After a few hours, a lonesome hunter approach in the direction Spencer was laying in wait.

As the hunter got a little too close to Spencer's location, he got into a perfect position for him to pounce. Spencer didn't let this chance escape his grasp, he decisively lunged at the caveman and covered its mouth to keep it from making any noise to alert its brethren.

Immediately after he caught the primitive humanoid, Spencer morphed his hands into claws and slit its throat. Before its body could slump to the floor, Spencer absorbed it and instantly felt the changes.

From the absorption, he gained an influx of memories, the life of the caveman, greatly detailing the events of its life up to the point of its death. He also gained an understanding of the language it spoke, and how it would communicate with other members of its tribe.

Finishing processing its memories, Spencer felt that he was finally ready to try and communicate with the tribe. He was tired of waiting for a connection with other life forms.

Wearing his animal skin clothing, Spencer began walking into the tribe of cavemen in anticipation of what he could discover.

Maybe he could potentially form a sense of kinship with them. Something in the back of his mind told Spencer that this couldn't happen.
