Chương 579: 56

Balock's expression turned to confusion for a few minutes as he thought about my blunt way of thinking about it. I didn't care much.

"Can I see your core?" Balock's eyes took on a golden hue, "I can tell that you're shielding it."

I cocked my head curiously.

"I've met many creatures in my years," he studied me with his eyes for a time, "I've never seen one like you before."

"Can you use it against me?" I studied his aura as he spoke.

"No," he frowned at me, "I can gage your strength, and I might get an idea of what elements you posses, but nothing else."

His aura didn't change in the slightest. That meant either he had complete control over his emotions or he wasn't lying to me. I dropped all the techniques I used to seal my mana away. Stopping short of showing him everything by keeping the crystal on my chest, and head hidden from view. He was clearly surprised by something he saw.

"Multiple cores," Balock gasped as he drew his eyes upward.

I hid everything all of a sudden. The fact that he could see my hidden crystals was a bit too much right now.

"What are you?" Balock was more scared this time when he asked.

"That's for later," I brushed the question off, "I already told you I would tell you everything you want to know about me later. Really, and truthfully I shouldn't have allowed you to see my core. You saw more then I expected you to."

"How do you have three cores?" Balock moved closed.

Reaching out toward my chest. I blinked back across the room so I was back by my chair.

"That shouldn't be possible," Balock continued, "The cores should fight each other for dominance. Your body should be destroying itself from the inside out."

I sat down in the chair by the door.

"You can study my unusual cores as much as you want once I'm done with this mess," I saw a silver lining in my small mistake, "But I want you to do something for me in exchange."

I knew why he wanted to study my cores. Weapons could only be forged with one core. If they wanted the weapon to have multiple attributes they had to merge the cores first. Skipping this step, and just forging multiple cores into a weapon risked it being unstable like my black blades.

"What could you possible want from me?" Balock raised a brow.

He clearly knew what I wanted from him, but he was leaving the question open ended to see if I planned to take advantage. I did. Just not in the way he thought I would.

"I want a teacher," I stated bluntly.

"You want me to teach you how to forge?" Balock looked genuinely confused.

I could tell that this wasn't what he was expecting.

"God no," I laughed, "I want you to teach a friend of mine. He forged these for me." I tossed him my black blades, "I think he has promise, but humans don't have skill in forging anymore. They're stumbling around in the dark."

Balock looked at the blades with his gleaming eyes for some time. I didn't know what part of it he was studying.

"I would call this sloppy work, but it's not bad for an amateur that doesn't have a proper teacher," Balock tossed the blades back with surprising ease, "I'm more curious about the material itself."

"It's organic," I smirked, "We have a good supply of it freely available. Although you might lose your head if you try to take it by force."

"It's almost as if those blades come alive in your hands," Balock was still looking at the blades, "They're heavy."

"Really," I tilted the blade in my grip, "I didn't notice. You should sleep while you've got the chance. If you can't fake passing out then I might have to knock you out tomorrow."

"How are you going to set me loose on earth if you're keeping me with you?" Balock looked at me wryly.

"Oh that," I dismissed him casually, "You're going to die. Do you know of any dwarven corpses nearby that can take your place?"

Balock stared at me for a second as he tried to figure out just how much truth was in my words. After a few seconds of stunned silence he started laughing heartily. The loud rambunctious laughter surprised me a little. I was glad I'd already blocked sound so that we wouldn't wake Sekka. The dwarf wasn't exactly quiet.

"There's another small project I want you to look into if you've got time later," I relaxed into the chair as my eyes started to feel heavy, "But that's a project for later as well."

I let my eyes fall closed, and leaned back against the wall. As an after thought I summoned some food out of my spatial storage for the old dwarf. I wasn't sure what he could, and couldn't eat so I summoned a good variety of foods for him. Falling asleep against the door less then a minute later. I was exhausted, but sleep wouldn't take much of my time.

I rarely felt truthfully exhausted nowadays. Sometimes it felt as if I could stay awake for days without a problem. Active days like today wore me out more. I was pretty sure that if I stayed awake for days I would need to sleep longer to feel rested. The stories about dragons sleeping for decades didn't seem too far fetched.

The ones where they slept for decades also seemed entirely possible. How long could I stay awake if I slept for a month? What if I slept for a year? It might be entirely possible for me to stay awake, and active for incredibly long periods of time if I did. Now was not the time to test the theory.

I remained on that cusp of awareness for a while before waking properly. I cracked my back as I stood up slowly. I wanted to return to my true form soon. I was getting tired of justifying it by saying it was too dangerous. It was odd.
