My main interest was the runic knowledge that I'd been granted. If there was any simple way to create a solution to the problem of the toxic mana then it would probably be somewhere in that knowledge. Now I just needed a proper medium, and the correct rune. I put the full force of my mind into sorting through the runic library.
"I think a contract with a memory spirit would be beneficial for you," Letty startled me by suddenly appearing next to me again.
I snarled at him.
"You should form a contract with a memory spirit," he repeated, "Dragons have a long lifespan, and an even greater memory. Having someone to help sort through those memories would be useful for you. I can tell you how."
"I'd rather figure it out myself," I slapped my tail on the ground.
Leaving a thick crack on the ground. I watched him stride away from me before starting to look for the information about memory spirits in my compendium of knowledge. It didn't take me long to find the information I was looking for. The information on memory spirits was limited.
*Memory Spirit
A spirit that can alter, and sort memories. They feed on true memories to gain strength. Often replacing consumed memories with false memories. Contracted spirits consume memories from their contractor in exchange for different tasks. The size of the task determines the size of the memory required for them to complete the task.
Summoning one was pretty simple. All I needed was a higher spirit or a proper circle, and the correct spirit would be summoned.
"Gaia," I summoned her to me.
"Yes my king," She appeared before me already on one knee.
"Don't think that I didn't notice what you did while I was evolving," I crossed one arm over the other.
"There is no excuse for what I did to you my king," She kept her eyes down.
"You do understand that I have good reason to terminate your contract now," I snorted.
"I do not wish for you to terminate my contract," this was the first time she'd looked up from the ground.
"You still want to use me to break through your limitations," My lips curled up into a snarl.
"Your mind was far stronger than I anticipated," she stood slowly, "I did not expect such mental resistance from someone like you."
"You mean because you think I'm stupid," I sighed heavily.
She was smart enough to remain silent.
"You are correct in thinking I am a bit thick," I folded my wings in tighter, "There's only one thing I know how to do well, and that is struggle. However. I will not have anymore of this trying to take control nonsense. I want you to summon a memory spirit for me."
"There aren't many memory spirits left since the decline in mana," she looked right at me, "Your best bet would probably be a newborn spirit. They're incredibly eager to please, and can grow into powerful entities given enough time."
"A newborn spirit?" I cocked my head, "There can't be many of those."
"There aren't," she confirmed, "But there are at least three that I've come into contact with on a global scale. I can bring them to you."
"Gaia I would prefer not to call on your services again," I uncrossed my arms, and stood up, "Should you betray me again I will do a lot more to you than just terminate our contract. Summon the memory spirits. I'll choose from the three of them on my own. I have excellent instincts."
"Yes my king," she nodded to me before disappearing.
Three spirits appeared in her place. They were just three balls of light in different colors. One yellow, one blue, and one green. I invited all three into my mind to give them an interview of sorts. Closing my eyes to enter my inner world.
None of the spirits had a voice to speak of but I already had an idea of which one I wanted to choose. The yellow one was jittery, and eager to consume my memories. I expelled him from my mind. I brought the blue, and the green into my hall of memories. The hall of memories was where my memories were being cataloged now that I'd matured.
The whole of the knowledge the system contained, and every memory I could think of. My new memories were recorded in perfect detail. All accept for the time when I was in stone. All my memories of that time were completely blank. As if they'd been stolen.
My eyes narrowed as I tried to understand what had happened to me during those lost memories. I stared at the empty space where the memories should be. All that was there was grey emptiness. I looked around at my hall of memories. Taking my attention off the blank space in my memories.
I found the blue spirit floating alongside me. Observing the memory alongside me. The green one was wandering around aimlessly. I expelled the green one from my mind. I was interested in the blue one to begin with.
The blue one was curious, and had similar interests to me. The green one was disinterested. The yellow to eager. I'd been interested in the blue one from the beginning. I offered the little spirit a contract right then, and there.
She accepted the contract, and gained form. It didn't give her a physical form, but any kind of form was a step up from a formless wisp. She looked like a little blue fox although her tail was a little too fluffy for a normal fox. The black tipped ears, and tail plus the little white paws made her an adorable little creature. Savannah would probably take a liking to the little spirit.
"You're a lovely little spirit," I ran my talon over her fur, "Could you search for some memories for me?"
She nodded gently.
"I need all the purification or poison absorption runes you can find within my memories," I smiled at her, "Can you do it?"
"I will need payment," she strode forward with confidence, "What do you offer?"
"You can take as many memories as you need of me eating or relieving myself," I cocked my head.
