Chương 308: 2

The tension I felt without Wyatt close by irritated me. I hated that they kicked him off this mission because of a minor scuffle with Vernon. I hated that Wyatt insisted on me going along anyway. My irritation made me drum on the door frame even more.

"Would you stop that," Vernon snapped at me out of irritation.

I telepathically slammed him into the door. Making him wince from pain because of the force I'd just hit him with. Vernon looked at me with irritation. Really was a bad idea to leave me in the same row of seats as him. It had been a long time since I'd been in a Humvee that was this crappy.

The last time I'd been in a cheap vehicle like this was back when a he'd still been pretending to be my friend. My nails dug into my palm as those painful childhood memories resurfaced. The level of manipulation my parents had over my few good childhood memories tainted them to the point that they lost the vigor a good memory had. They became tainted with echos of pain, and betrayal. I brushed the memories aside by focusing on the sparse trees rushing by the window.

I liked the distraction the bumpy suspension gave me. Most the vehicles I'd been in my life that weren't military issue were run on ultra gravity suspension. It didn't matter what terrain you were on. You wouldn't feel a single bump. If you weren't looking out the window you'd think that you weren't moving at all.

The bumps of the cheaper vehicles made it feel as if time was actually passing. I didn't like that stillness that the ultra gravity suspension gave a vehicle. Sure it was great for hospitals, and transportation of fragile materials, but it just felt wrong for any other vehicles to have that sort of stillness. It was easy to forget that you were driving when it was that still. I guess that was what all the anti collision, and auto driving software was for.

Not that many people drove vehicles that actually drove on the ground nowadays. Those were practically reserved for guilds. A hover grid was incredibly difficult to build on other planets, and vehicles that didn't need a hover grid were another level of expensive. It was actually cheaper to buy yourself a spaceship then a car that could fly without the hover grid. My parents had half a dozen of every kind of vehicle that money could buy.

The two most powerful natural ability users on the planet made a lot of money. It was pretty obvious that my parents didn't have much love for each other, but they'd stayed together for the mutual benefits that they got from being a married couple. My older brother was unlucky enough to not inherit an ability from either one of our parents, but his promise as a mage made him better than all of us in their eyes. My three younger siblings all inherited either my mother's or my father's abilities. All of them had grown to have the same sense of superiority that my parents had.

It was more irritating then I cared to mention. My older brother that despised me, and my three little siblings that told me I was to weak over, and over again. Just like my parents. My body tensed as I tried to keep my rage in check for the time being. I could vent on the spiders when we got there.

Wyatt had done a lot to restore my confidence in my ability. Looked at the blood on my palm with disinterest. I really shouldn't have dug my nails in so deep. I pushed down the urge to ask how much further again, and flicked a finger casually as I used my telepathy to kill three beasts that had jumped at the vehicle to attack simultaneously. Ripping out their cores in an instant.

Rolling down my window so I could bring them inside to put them in my pouch. The stunned silence that followed was more than a little nice. I enjoyed the silence so I rolled up my window, and just let it all go. Killing those beast had been a helpful bit of relaxation. I'd needed that.

My body relaxed a bit. I glanced over the seat in front of me to the GPS. It looked like we were only going to be traveling for a few more hours. It would be late evening by the time we got there. We wouldn't be able to wait another night to survey the nest either.

It was only a matter of time before the nest overran the very cliff we were planning to use to survey the nest. I flared out a low level field of telepathic power. My own version of sonar. It was a welcome distraction from the situation I was in right now. It consumed all my focus to just to keep track of everything in my field of control.

I lost track of time after a while, and before I could complain anymore we'd made it to the cliff we were looking for. I didn't know what I would do when Vernon finally decided to make his move. Wyatt had told me not to kill him myself. He wanted Calen to punish Vernon himself. It would bring about the best result according to Wyatt.

I didn't know why Wyatt thought that. It made me tense as I thought about the possibility of Vernon surviving. There was a good chance a strong ability user like him would get away with everything he did, and just be banned from approaching the people he'd attempted to kill. If he ever did then Calen would have a legal right to kill him. My body tensed as I prayed that he would die today or make the very mistake that would call for his death.

The sooner the better. My impatience was getting the best of me. I wanted this to end as soon as possible. Calen's guys worked on setting up the ropes so we could repel down the wall once we were ready. I tossed a harness at Savannah, and another to Jax so they could get ready.
