Chương 182: One tough bastard

My face which was usually blank had a slight twinge of pain on it. The slightest breeze over my now skinless arm was enough to make me wince, but I could still move it, and that was what mattered to me. I picked up the hard thing I'd gotten out of the beast, and looked it over quickly about the time the teachers reached us.

Damage resistance +3.

Thanks system.

"Are you alright?" the closest healer grabbed my burned arm.

Searing pain shot up from that point of contact, and I grabbed her wrist with my right tightly as I clenched my teeth angrily.

"Are you stupid or something?" I hissed through my clenched teeth.

The healer let go, and so did I. There was a bruise on her wrist since I'd put too much strength into grabbing her. She moved as if she was going to heal me, but I just glared at her.

"Can you walk kid?" the teacher next to me asked.

"Yeah," I looked at him, "Just don't let her touch me again."

He nodded, and we started walking towards the healers tent which was marked with a big red plus mark as he lectured me for being an idiot.

"You could've gotten yourself killed..." I caught a blurb of what he was saying when I noticed something that made me a hundred different levels of angry.

The top team was trying to scan my kill. I heard the teacher trail off when he realized that I'd stopped following him, and was headed towards the top team. The girl looked at her scanner in confusion as she went to try scanning the beast again.

"Hey," I stepped into a full force punch as she turned around to look at me.

I opted to hit her with my left hand since my right hand was full. Completely forgetting how damaged my left arm was until my clenched fist hit her cheek, and sent enough pain down my arm to make my vision blur as I staggered a bit. I shook my head to clear my vision as I look up to where she'd fallen a good fifteen feet away from me. I'd lost most of my follow through on the hit when pain had raced up my arm, and my hit had been much lighter than I'd intended.

"It's hard to steal kills when the crystal has already been pulled out of the beast," I shouted as I held up the crystal I was gripping in my right hand.

Anyone who hadn't seen me punch her knew exactly what had happen as soon as they turned to look at the scene. Well between that, and me yelling about it. I tossed the crystal in straight up, and caught it when it came back down before tossing it at Savannah for her to scan. Several holy shits, and other similar comments went through the crowd as the word got around. I continued towards the medical tent past all the stunned onlookers who parted for my passage.

Even the teacher who'd been lecturing me about being stupid, and suicidal had gone strangely quiet. As soon as I stepped into the medical tent the head healer had me on a bed, and started spraying on pain killers. The numbness was kind of nice after the searing pain I'd just felt so I let her do it. After she was sure that I was sufficiently numb she started cleaning the wound. The painkillers apparently weren't as effective on me as it would normally be, but it brought the pain of her handling my damaged arm down enough that I could go back to my blank expression.

The healer on the other hand. She didn't say anything as she regenerated the skin on my arm. Seemed like she didn't concern herself with the lecturing part of dealing with stupid students.

"You've got impressive regenerative ability," She seemed to finish what she was doing as her assistant dabbed the sweat off her forehead, "But the skin on your arm is still very new, and will still be sensitive for about a day so I'm going to bandage it up anyways. Don't try anything stupid, and take it easy until your skin heals completely." she started wrapping a bandage around the sensitive new pink skin on my arm, "You're lucky the acid didn't damage your muscle tissue too badly. Another few seconds, and you would have done permanent damage to your arm."

Yeah. I thought to myself. Maybe if I was human. If I'd been alone I wouldn't have hesitated to heal myself right then, and there. I wouldn't have been hurt long enough to do permanent damage.

I was given a fresh pair of shoes, and I laced them up quickly before leaving the medical tent. I'd be worried about breaking new boots in if my damage resistance wasn't so high now. I didn't think any pair of shoes would give me any blister type problems at this point. I almost smiled when I saw Savannah, and Ethan waiting for me. Most of the kids that had stayed to see who was on my team backed away when they realized I was headed straight for them.

Savannah smiled at me. Seeing me get wounded while saving dozens of lives had probably set her mind at ease. Most of the teachers were in the middle of a tense discussion. Goliath stood on the edge of that discussion not appearing to contribute to it at all even though he was thrown several pointed looks. There was one teacher off with the top scoring team.

From the looks of it they were getting a real earful. Served them right. Kill stealing like that was a bullshit move. That one kill had propelled our small three man team into the top slot with our tier fifteen kill.

"It's a good thing I grabbed those grenades," I smirked as Savannah, and Ethan took their places on either side of me.

Ethan to my right, and Savannah on my left. Finally. I thought to myself. We're all back on the same page again. It took long enough.
