I picked up my tray. Standing up, and walking over to drop my tray in the bin. I walked out of the cafeteria. Too tired to go any faster than a walk. Ethan caught up to me before I could get to the elevator.
I almost fell asleep with my back to the wall of the elevator. I was really glad Ethan had caught up to me since I was borderline non functional at this point. I wandered to my room, and peeled off my clothes quickly before switching forms. Stretching my wings as I climbed onto my bed. Curling up as I passed out on the the bed.
I could hear the door latch click on my room with my last bits of my consciousness. I was kind of glad Ethan was trying to look out for me. I jolted awake to the sound of the alarm. I growled standing up on my bed, and stretching slowly. I shook out the rest of the stiffness out of my limbs.
I checked my watch for the time, and noticed a little email notification. I opened it up, and it was from Goliath. Right. I snorted angrily. Than I read the notification.
Wyatt,
Due to the dangerous nature of rift city you will be getting paired up with a training partner. Someone who fits your abilities well, and compliments your skills. You will spend all your free time with this training partner outside of classes, and half an hour before curfew. Your training partner is Savannah Earl.
Goliath.
I heard a knock at the door. I jumped out of bed, and switched forms. Pulling on clean clothes quickly as I rushed out to see what was going on. I opened the door quickly stepping into the common area. I walked the to door, and slid it open to find myself staring at Savannah herself.
"Goliath?" I stepped away from the door.
Leaving it open as I walked back to my room. I slammed the door to my room shut, and sat on the bed.
"GOD DAMMIT," I yelled at the top of my lungs as the wind in the room went nuts, and the rest froze solid around me.
The water droplets in the air froze solid as well creating an effect like an instant blizzard.
New skill. White out level 2.
White out? My curiosity dimmed my momentary rage enough that my elements settled. System what is white out?
Combination magic of Air, and ice attribute Water affinity. Creates a blizzard in user's area of affect. Current area of affect 30 feet. Cost 10 mana.
This I could use. An instant blizzard would be useful camouflage if I wanted to use magic or conceal the fact that I was switching forms. Especially if I leveled up my stealth ability. I almost smiled, and then I remembered. Savannah.
Any joy I'd been feeling a moment ago due to my new skill vanished. I had to deal with Savannah. Goliath clearly didn't know how much I was avoiding her. I opened the door, and peeked out. I hadn't realized how cold my room was though until the poof of cold air caused some ice steam to escape.
I stepped out of my room quickly, and slammed the door shut. Savannah was still standing awkwardly outside of the dorm.
"Come in," I sat down at the desk, "So Goliath."
Savannah stepped just inside the door sliding it closed as Ethan came out of his room. His fear hit us both full force. Ethan just stood there staring at Savannah as I tried to calm the fear invading the back of my mind.
"Ethan," I snapped my eyes up to him with a sharp tone to my voice, "Calm down."
Ethan met my eyes, and calm enveloped his mind.
Hypnotism level up. Hypnotism now level 3. Effect of hypnotism now works on the weak minded as well as Allies. Affect on allies now lasts 10 minutes.
Great. Ten minutes to talk without that annoying sensation of Ethan's fear.
"Again Goliath," I refocused on Savannah, "What do you think he's trying to do putting us together like this?"
"Has he realized that you're an unregistered..." Savannah paused for a second looking at Ethan.
"He knows more than you do," I snapped, "He's not telling either."
"An unregistered magic user?" Savannah frowned at Ethan.
"First things first," Ethan's eyes started glowing.
Savannah's uniform fluttered slightly on her frame as Ethan searched her.
"She's clean," Ethan's eyes slowly stopped glowing.
"Yeah," I leaned back in the chair, "He's probably realized somethings off about me by now."
"That's not surprising since your control sucks," Savannah leaned up against the wall.
"I would rather we just ignore this whole buddy thing," I rubbed my forehead, "But I doubt we can without getting kicked out of the club. I kind of like that club."
"You'd be paired up with your own personal drill sergeant if you managed to get kicked out of the club," Savannah looked away from me when I looked at her, "It's standard protocol to pair up failing students with a second year, and then the second year is promised large rewards for getting improved results from the first year student. Some second years have accidentally killed their underlings. Injuries, starvation, PTSD and constant exhaustion. That is if the first year student doesn't surpass the second year in all their hellish training." Savannah shook her head slowly, "The second year student they pick is always willing to do pretty much anything to get what the military is offering. They offer what that student wants knowing that they'll do anything to get it."
That would be bad with my current sleep requirements. The physical aspect of it would be beneficial to me, but the rest was a complete joke. I couldn't be around one person that much. Let alone someone who was there to basically torture me into getting better results. I was going to have trouble just being around Savannah constantly, and I was way stronger than her.
I was getting a headache just having this conversation with her.
"We're going to be late," I stood up, "Let's go."
I walked through the door right past Savannah. I knew Ethan was following me. I didn't care if Savannah was. I stopped at Ethan's club. Meeting his eyes to hypnotize him once again before he went into his club meeting.
Savannah was still with me as much as that sucked. We walked into club together. Savannah sat a couple seats away from me on my side of the room. That irritated me. Most of the students in the club had developed a healthy need to keep distance between me, and them.
