Chapter 76

Reskeme clenched his teeth, wincing at the pain as his manacles dug into in wrists yet again. The cobblestone streets passed in front of his face and his stomach grumbled. The torchlight along the streets danced underneath his horse's hooves in an oddly soothing way.

He strained against his bonds, his muscles strained as he lifted his head. They rode unhindered through the gate. He glanced from side to side, searching the corners of the buildings desperately for a familiar face.

Reskeme caught site of a guard in the shadow and said," hey who is there?"

Reskeme raised his body, hope rising in his chest. A man in a dark cloak stepped from the alley and grinned at him.

Trisha said, " There you are, Greg. Are all the gates clear?"

Reskeme heard the man's deep voice reply," Yes, the guards will not block our path. All it took was a little silver for them to be elsewhere."

Reskeme said, " What are you talking about, Trisha?"

Waving his question away, unconcerned. Trisha said," We payed the guards to look the other way while we deliver precious goods to the lord's mansion."

Reskeme said, "can I have some water?" His captor and antagonist halted her horse. Reaching down poured some warm water in his parched mouth. Reskeme coughed, sputtering through his nose. He took another mouthful and had to lift his head before swallowing the water.

Reskeme cheeks ached as he said, " I had imagined my first horseback ride with a beautiful woman to be more comfortable."

Trisha laughed, she said, "How can you be thinking about courting at a time like this?"

Reskeme sighed deeply he said, " Life is short. I was thinking of my impending death and realized I have never even kissed a woman before."

Trishas soft laugh bounced off the nearby buildings. Her laugh soothing to his ears over the sound of the clomping horses.

Trisha said, " I suppose you're adorable enough. That is beside the fact, you are still a lying murder happy demon"

Reskeme said, " If I get out of this, it will be you in my position. Just so you know how it feels to ride next to horse's smelly ass."

From further down the alley the Peacock said," You fit right in, I think my horse's ass smells better than you do!"

Reskeme tilted his head toward the young man staring hatefully at the backs of the lead riders. He glanced behind him and caught sight of three guards, one in a dark cloak and two in the bright golden armour of the nobles guards. Where had the last one come from?

His ankles and wrists throbbed, and his back ached. Reskeme hummed an army marching song as he bumped along the path, watching the buildings roll by.

Reskeme hummed "from the fields we march down the path, If the enemy comes we will show them our wrath."

Trisha said," You sound upset."

Reskeme clenched his fists and said," If you are still an enemy you will see, im going to show my enemies what an angry demon can do."

Reskeme slumped his shoulders as his mount passed under the inner gate, his last hope of a sudden rescue faded behind. Stupid soldiers, he spent all that time making friends with those guards. All his efforts and it didn't even pay off.

The horse Reskeme was on passed under an arch with a torch on a metal hangar and halted. His captors began dismounting their horses. Reskeme felt a stinging pain as Trisha dismounted and brushed the back of his head while passing.

Ouch!

Trisha touched his shoulder gently and said," Sorry I did not mean to do that."

Reskeme winced, taking in deep breaths. He said," Why does my head hurt so bad?"

Trisha said," The Nobles thug hit you in the head with his sword hilt. Lord Mark also kicked you in the head after they nocked you out."

Reskeme rocked side to side and heard clanking behind him. He felt Rough hands on him as he rolled off the horse and lit on his feet. He felt a shocking pain shoot through his numb legs. Reskeme tried to widen his legs and balance himself. Pushing his legs apart he fell to the floor, his leg manacles clanking loudly on the cobblestones.

Trisha grasped him under the shoulders and helped him to his feet. Reskeme placed an arm on her shoulder, using her for support. Reskeme found it odd how she first wanted to see him dead and now was helping him gently back to his feet.

Trisha said, "This will probably be our last chance to talk."

Reskeme Whispered," Just go to the Garrison in the morning and talk to the sword master."

Trisha said," Why should I?"

Reskeme eyed her face carefully he said," I will give you any favor you ask for. I have nothing left to lose."

Trisha's face turned pensive. She said," All right, fine I will go to the sword master, I must have fallen because im begging to think you are telling the truth."

Reskeme sighed in relief. He might get out of this mess. Stumbling towards the door, all the guards surrounded him. His chained feet made him hop like a freaking rabbit to keep up. One guard pushed him from behind, forcing him to lean on Trisha for support. They escorted him towards the opening doors of the church.

They pushed Reskeme through the door and walked through several rooms towards the back of the church. Reskeme glance at several paintings. Why did someone waste all of that valuable gold to make a wooden frame look shiny?

Reskeme and his armed escort clanked to a halt. The room comprised a naked stone statue; the stone had long smooth legs, a perky naked chest and long flowing hair disappearing down its toned back. He followed the hair and stopped around her waist, his face flushing he looked away feeling embarrassed. The statue had nothing on, not even underwear?

Trisha said," Stop eyeing that rock."

Reskeme swallowed hard, looking anywhere besides the statue. He said," What, are you jealous? Of a rock?"

Leaning on her shoulder for support, he glanced at her. Reskeme smiled as he caught a slight flush on her cheeks. Trisha flipped her hair into his face and scoffed," of course not, that stone has nothing on me."

The Lord peacock waltzed in front of him, his grin sparkling in the candlelight. Reskeme sneered at the Noble. The Lord Peacock gestured to a metal door in the stone wall. The door had steel hinges and a large lock on the front, In the middle of the door was a slot the size of his head that could only be a food slit. Reskeme swallowed as one man in gold armour took a large key from his belt. The large key turned in the lock before the man grasped the handle, pulling on the thick door.

Eliya stood in the corner of the small room, eyeing him and glancing back and forth suspiciously to Trisha. Reskeme did not know what that one was thinking? She was like the brick wall; her face cold and emotionless. The peacock walked over to him and drove his fist straight towards Reskemes gut, his breath left his chest and he collapsed to the ground retching on the young mans reflective shoes.

Serves the Noble right, Take that you stupid shoe. If Reskeme couldn't hurt the man, he would wreck his cloths. Reskeme lay on his side, choking and grasping his stomach. He lay on the hard wooden floor, taking in ragged breaths. He felt a stinging pain in his stomach as pain exploded in his side, at least he held down his bile this time.

Trisha stated firmly," My lord, the high inquisitor said not to damage the prisoner. What if you accidentally kill him, then all of our hard work would be for nothing?"

The Peacock growled. he said, "Fine, get on with it mage. Put the prisoner in the cell, I can't wait to watch him put to the torch."

Reskeme said," Is that why you did all of this?"

Reskeme crawled to his knees, avoiding the awful on the hardwood floor. The Peacocks face turned a bright red, and he raised his hand to strike Reskeme. A figure moved in front of him, blocking the strike. Well, maybe he had gotten through to Trisha? she was standing up for him.

The Peacock shouted," Do you realize how much trouble you caused me? When I went to court, everyone stare at me. They whispered rumours I was a goblin. Do you realize how humiliation that is? When word got out, a beggar killed my guards. I became the laughingstock of the city.

The peacocks voice lowered to a normal tone. Gesturing towards his guards he said," That is why these guards here volunteered to come with me. You killed their friends. They were more than willing to break the law and kidnap a member of the army to get revenge."

The door behind him creaked as it opened and High inquisitor Kelvin strode in, He said," What is with all the yelling? Lord mark, I will send word when the ritual is ready. For the meantime, please leave my house."

Lord mark stormed from the room, his extra shiny guards clanking loudly as they jogged after him. Trisha took Reskeme under the arm. He thrashed as the other guard in the cloak grasped his other arm and escorted towards the dark hole in the wall. He stared into the box and shuddered. The room looked completely empty, just a square room made of stone with one way in and one way out.

Trisha Whispered in his ear," I am going to hold you to that favor, you promised anything."

Reskeme leaned into her ear and whispered," And I will hold to the favor for the rest of my life if I do not die in the next week."

He sat against the far wall of the dark cell, staring up at Trisha as she started backing away. Trisha Said," Eliya give me your supply pack, just food and water."

Elya glanced at her but did as she asked, Eliya dug through the pack before passing Trisha the bag. Trisha opened the heavy bag and looked inside before shutting it and putting the bag in the cell. She turned to the inquisitor and said; " Now all we need to worry about is a chamber pot, my lord."

Kelvin said," Don't dungeons starve their prisoners and make the use there cells as a chamberpot?"

Reskeme caught Trishas glare as she said," look around my lord, this is not a proper dungeon. If he stinks, the entire house might smell like he does."

Kelvin scowled but nodded his head, Kelvin said," You are right,.Greg! remove his chamber pot once a day, I refuse to have my house smell like shit."

Reskeme waited for several moments, watching through the open cell door as the cloaked guard left the room for a few minutes. He contemplated trying to run; He shifted his feet. The thick chain snaking between his ankles made running a horrible idea. Reskeme stare down at his brown cotton shirt and his white cotton pants. Damit, he watched the enemy's faces as they whispered to each other. Where did they put his armour?"

He patted his pockets, finding nothing. His heart racing in a panic, he reached up to his neck. His only possession was a small necklace. He smiled and pulled it out. The small necklace with a circle made his anxiety lessen a little. At least he still had his mana gauge. The small necklace wasn't as valuable as his illusion necklace, but he hid it back from the enemy's sight just in case.

The cloaked figure returned with a blue and white chamberpot. The cloaked man placed it in the cell's front and shut the metal door with a resounding boom, locking Reskeme back in the comforting darkness. The darkness clawed at his skin, both seductive and terrifying as he remembered his first time in a cell all those months ago.
