When he was back at the pokemon center, Nurse joy was standing on a slightly elevated platform.
Nurse Joy "Every trainer can join this quest, as there are no restrictions. The trainers and gym leader of the Celadone pokemon gym are participating as well to increase the chances of success. If you want to apply for the quest, then you can accept it at the reception desk."
Stepping down, Nurse Joy returned to her station as the trainers present began to converse about what had just been told. Crowds dispersed, as groups began to form to spread the information to those who had arrived late. Having arrived at the end of the notification, Ares stepped towards the quest board to see what was happening.
[Desperate need for grass type Pokemon. Oddish, Gloom, Tangela and Weepinbell are requested to be caught. Every pokemon caught will give 5.000 pokedollars. Weepinbell and Gloom will give an additional 1.000 pokedollars. A set amount of Pokeballs needed for the quest are given with the acceptance of the request. Any pokeballs that are remaining need to be returned at the completion of the quest. Catching any Vileplume is discouraged for those who have four badges and below, as its strenght has been deemed too high, to avoid possible injuries and deaths. Acceptance of the quest can be done at the reception desk. For more information, please ask Nurse Joy and the staff of the pokemon center.]
Reading it through, Ares understood the general information. The quest giver was the perfume store he had been earlier that day. Seems like they need these grass type pokemon for the construction of their perfume. Additional information had been given, such as the completion time and the state of the pokemon caught. How they would use the caught pokemon, he had no clue and he had no intention to find out either.
Going to the reception desk, Ares accepted the quest, receiving thirty pokeballs. Along with the pokeballs, a map with the habitat of the requested pokemon was shown. It was on the mountain near his current place of stay, just a bit further north of the city.
Asking Nurse Joy for an incubator for the egg as well, he was looked at with stern eyes as she kept reminding him to return it in good state. He was just glad he hadn't forgotten to ask, with the last emergency stop not having one, as well as the fact they had one he could use.
Thinking of what he would need later, Ares left the pokemon center, having safely put the egg in the incubator. When he found one for himself, he would definitely return the incubator to the pokemon center.
Going to a store, he stocked up on food for the following days, as well as water bottles. Besides that were potions, Full heal as well as repels in case of emergency. Maybe Erika's perfume would work as well, but he had no intention to try it out.
Coming back out again, a group of trainers and their Pokemon were heading to the mountain as well, though they didn't seem all that prepared. Not bothering stepping forward and remind them of the difficulty, he too went to the mountain, a bit further away from th other trainers to avoid possible accidents.
Seeing no one near him, he made his way up the faint trail, his eyes on the map and on the path in front of him.
The path he was taking was a faint forest trail, one that had been created from the wild Pokemon passing through it. That means that when he followed this, he would be able to arrive near a spot filled with Pokemon, most likely being near a water source or a food source.
Hopefully it was the Pokemon he needed for the quest, as he disliked having to battle his way through the mountain just to find the pokemon in question.
Going up, on his side were his usual partners, Lucario and Umbreon. In the sky was Pidgeot, searching for signs of the pokemon he was looking for. His other pokemon were on standby, as he had no intention on showing his cards all at once, as there might be trainers on this quest that had questionable intentions.
A soft squawk in the air notified him Pidgeot had found something. Seeing Pidgeot going in the same direction of the trail, he continued his way up. At the end, a small stream of water was running down the mountain towards the city. At the stream were pokemon, but not the ones he was looking for. There were Jigglypuff, Pidgeotto as well as the usual bug pokemon. A Nidorino was there as well, but it seemed very old, surrounded by smaller and younger Nidoran, female and male.
Shaking his head, he looked up at the circling Pidgeot above him, who flew further up again. Looking at the map once more, it was clear he was headed to one of the more dangerous sections of the mountain.
The map was divided in four colored area's. Red, Orange, Yellow and Green. Green was safe for one badge holders. Yellow was safe for people with two badges. So on and on. Red was the danger area for people with at least four badges. For the truly dangerous area's, there were even maps that were purple and black, but those were not seen that often. Purple for six to seven badges difficulty, while black was elite four and champion level difficulty. Truly a rare map.
With Pidgeot flying towards that direction, it only meant that the pokemon there were of the same strenght as himself, maybe a little higher. If that was the case, he could go there, but he needed to be cautious. One wrong move and he would have a problem.
Arriving at the place where Pidgeot was flying above, a giant tree stood proudly above the rest. At its base were Oddish, Gloom and even a few Vileplume.
The group was widespread, as the most common ones were the Oddish and Gloom. Going along the edge of the giant tree, Ares began to catch the Oddish that were too far from their group.
As his pokemon were too strong at the moment for these weak Oddish, he had called out Clefairy, who used a area of effect move Disarming Voice, as well as Psychic to knock them out.
Like that he had caught twelve Oddish.
Going after a few Gloom at the end, they were a bit harder to battle.
The gloom attacked with moves like Poison powder and Stun spore. While it didn't have an effect of Clefairy, he still needed to be cautious of these attacks, as they still posed a threat to him. Forming an aura barrier around him, he continued the battle.
Ares "Clefairy, Psychic"
Clefairy's fingers began to glow as she directed the psychic energy towards the Gloom. While she was weak to poison attacks, if the opposing pokemon didn't have a chance to use its poison, Clefairy would be able to handle them. Just like now, when the Gloom were suspended in the air and slammed hard to the ground, again and again. Ares even began to feel bad for the gloom, as Clefairy could be rather harsh if she wanted to be.
While Clefairy wasn't a fan of battling, she could do it if she had to. Throwing the Gloom in the air, Clefairy waited for them to come down.
Ares "Gravity"
With a swipe downwards with her hand, the gravity around the Gloom increased, making them crash down hard to the ground.
The Gloom sputtered poisonous powder in anger, about to scream for help, but it was quickly nipped in the bud.
Ares "Finish it with Sing"
Singing a lovely tune, Clefairy put the Gloom in front of her to sleep in a second, avoiding the Vileplumes to know of what happened.
Throwing the pokeballs, they all turned shortly before indicating the capture signal.
He now had an additional five Gloom in his possession.
Thinking it was enough for today, he returned Clefairy to her pokeball, decending downwards from the mountain again. Along the way he encountered a single Weepinbell, which was caught without too much of a struggle.
Getting back to the pokemon center, he returned the leftover pokeballs and received the money for the completed quest. Around him, people were bringing in poisoned or paralyzed pokemon. Some trainers were poisoned as well, slumping weakly against the chair.
"They were unprepared."
Muttering softly, he let his pokemon be checked by Nurse Joy, after which he returned to his room. He had a gym battle to fight the next day and he needed to be fully rest for that. Who knows if it will be as hard as Lt. Surge's gymbattle. At least now, he wasn't as overconfident as then. He had prepared as best as he could. Now it was just to be seen if it was enough.
