Chương 2: [1.2] A Friendly Man

Akuma's face is met with the gentle breeze one more time. Yet now there is only a look of shock upon that same face that used to be calm and composed just seconds ago.

[What happened? What's going on? Where am i? Why am i on some hill?] All of these thoughts ran through Akuma's head. Questions everywhere yet not a single answer.

It seems to be quite early as the sun isn't as high as it should be, just high enough for the morning dow to evaporate.

The first one to get himself together is Akuma. Staying more or less calm in situations that would cause great mental stress was one of Akuma's better qualities.

However, Akuma's big friend Haku wasn't as lucky as Akuma was. He was downright panicking. Well suddenly being teleported to a place no one knows...no one can really blame any of them for panicking.

"Hey, Haku get yourself together." Akuma's words seem to come into Haku's head through one ear and out through the other one, as he doesn't stop panicking one bit. Akuma then realizes what he has to do to bring his friend back to his senses.

"I'm sorry 'bout this one." Akuma grabs Haku by the collar and brings him down to eye level. As Haku sees Akuma's eyes he knows what will happen. In an instant Akuma punches Haku with all his strenght. This makes the big and sturdy man that Haku is nearly fall into the half wet grass.

The act is noticed by everyone around. The intention behind it, however, isn't understood.

"Oh Akuma! What are you doing?!"

Johnathan Smith. The cocky one charges at Akuma. Just as he is about to reach him, he is sent to the ground by Haku who gives John a good elbow to the jaw.

The high and mighty acting John just got shot down harder that anyone would expect. He was now lying in the half wet grass with droplets of tears in his eyes from the elbow. "Haku why are even you-"

"EVERYONE SHUT UP!" The gentle giant lost it. To most people it was the first time they saw Haku genuinely angry. Akuma, however wasn't as luck as to see it just once.

"Listen up, if we want to find out what just happened we'll have to stop panicking first! We'll have to work together!"

Haku's announcement is interrupted by John again.

"But didn't Akuma just-"

"I SAID QUIET!"

Haku's aggressive stance made it clear to everyone. Be quiet and listen. After a few minutes of Haku's aggressive counselling everyone was in a more or less stable state. Haku was always social so everyone respected him, now even more. The students needed a leader, when the teacher who was with the students can't be one, the student will have to.

After a while Haku decided to go down the hill. The problem wasn't as big as everyone thought. The hill was surrounded by trees but there was a path which the group could take. And they did.

However, as they were going down that path they soon met a dead end. The path was covered in bushes and tall grass, however no tree was where the path would go. Naturally everyone depended on Haku to lead them out on this path. Haku however, was only a human just like them. He needed to be able to depend on someone as well. Fortunately, he had someone just like that, Akuma. The two were in the very front of the group.

The path they were going down has slowly shifted from bushes to simply tall grass. The path itself was surrounded by tall trees.

Soon, like a blessing from heaven, the students see the end of the path. Filled with hope they run towards it. The only one that isn't sprinting towards salvation is the cautious Akuma. The joy of finally being saved is crushed as soon as the students see what the trees hid from them up until now. Another path, not surrounded by tall trees anymore but green fields filled with grass that stretches up to their knees.

Once Akuma reaches the group who stopped right as the fields began he notices something else. Something so obvious he feels as if everyone around him is an idiot.

Slightly to their right stretches a mountain, not tall nor short. Just tall enough to not be visible from the hill the students came from. And to their left is a city. A city hiding within tall stone walls.

"Hey, look!"

Akuma shouted as he pointed his finger at the round walls.

"That's right we're saved! Let's go there!"

Haku's confident proclamation gave everyone hope again.

So they set out again. They walked for a few more minutes before arriving at a crossroad. The path divided to the right, presumably to the mountain and to the left, to the city.

"HEY, YOU PEOPLE WHAT ARE YOU DOING OUT HERE?!"

A strong shout came from the right side. The students became filled with both joy and fear. A few seconds after the shout came, the students saw what, or who was the source. It was a young man, maybe 20 years old. There are around four more people beside that man.

Some of them are wearing robes, while other are wearing medieval armor. One of them even has a sword as big as Akuma.

The group catches up to the students. Akuma now finally has a closer look at the man who shouted at them. He's a bit shorter than Haku, short spiky black hair together with cyan eyes decorate his head. He is wearing light metal armor that covers his chest, arms, legs and a sword at his hip. A kind yet worried expression sat on his face.

"What are you guys doing out here? No weapons or even horses to escape on."

As the man finishes, Haku starts asking.

"Why would we need horses or weapons?"

The man together with the rest of his group look surprised.

"You mean you haven't heard? There have been some quarells between the kingdoms Avflamm and Vann near the border here."

At that moment Akuma together with everyone else understood. They weren't in their world anymore. They were somewhere else, far from their homes.

"If you guys want to, we can walk with you to Hranard here."

The usually quiet Akuma was standing at the edge of the group, he was the closest one to to the other group. He responded to the man's offer in a neutral tone.

"That would be nice."

A big smile appeared on the man's face.

"Alright, let's go then."

The combined group set out towards the city Hranard. Akuma was in the front with the black haired man.

"By the way, the name's Zack."

"Akuma."

"Nice to meet you, Akuma."

"Likewise."

Zack offers Akuma a handshake to their new friendship. Akuma shakes Zacks's hand. A little while later Zack starts asking about the students.

"So what were you guys doing on that hill?"

Akuma now has to think of a good excuse as to why him and his classmates were on that hill. He can't say they're from a different world.

"Ummm... I don't remember. None of us do."

Zack is quite surprised at Akuma's response.

"Well that's interesting. Looking at your clothes i'm guessing you guys must have been some rich people or even nobles."

Only now Akuma notices this difference. He is wearing mostly black. A camo hoodie is the most interesting one by Zack.

Zack seems to think for a while before asking again.

"Akuma, how old are you?"

"14 why?"

Zack thinks for a while again.

"We'll say you are 15, 'kay?"

"Why?"

"You see, once someone turns 15 they can register as an adventurer. An adventurer is someone who takes on the quests that are posted by the guild, and upon completion they recieve money."

"I see, that's a good idea."

Zack smiles after finishing his explanation.

A few minutes of Akuma conversing with Zack, the group arrives at the open city gates.
