Chương 64: Lady Nia

The reason why Prince Qui was very insistent on making Princess Yingyue apologize was because the lady that they were talking to earlier was the daughter of the lord that was protecting the outer part of Heping. And since they were much at the end of Heping, who could say when they would jump ships and stab Heping in the back?

The least that he could do as one of the generals was to make sure that they would not lose allies because one of the daughters got offended by the now somewhat notorious princess.

"How's the married life treating you?" asked the Crown Prince by his side. He had the tone of someone who was looking forward to hearing something funny.  The Crown Prince was not going to be disappointed.

"It's one thing that I was given a wife when I don't want one. It's another thing that I was given an annoying one."

The Crown Prince smiled at his brother's demise good-naturedly. "It'll be fine. You just have to let the waters settle."

"Was this how yours went?"

"Of course, there was a lot of awkwardness between us. We hardly talked. But over time, you would find things to talk about and get to know each other better."

"So are you thankful that you got married?"

"Well, that just saved me a lot of time on finding a rightful bride, right? I have a lot on my plate. The day will come that you will be thankful about this."

Prince Qui took a deep breath as his eyes followed the silverhead making its way to the said lady from earlier. From the way that the lady was looking at his wife, he knew that something wrong would happen.

Prince Qui squeezed on the bridge of his nose. "I could not wait."

Tianshi Xue knew that she was going to be pissed and that this lady, although had looked apologetic earlier, was about to say something snarky and she would bite back.

Even then, she pushed herself forward, mainting a calm smile on her lips. She didn't want to alarm anybody that was near them. They were all looking at her. The newlywed was finally walking to someone at the party and was going to mingle.

All of the guests were interested with what was going to happen. They might've looked away but Tianshi Xue knew that their ears would be perked right now, trying to catch every single word that would come out of her mouth.

"Good evening," Tianshi Xue said sweetly to the lady and batted her eyes lightly. It was a bad thing that she did not know the name of this lady. She should've at least made an effort to know so she could address her properly. But it was too late now. "I came over to apologize about my attitude earlier. You were only trying to say your congratulations and I got all mean."

The lady turned her whole body to face Tianshi Xue. "You have no reason to apologize, Princess." She said the last word like she might as well have spat it out.

Tianshi Xue kept the smile on her face regardless. "Still, it was unlike me to act like that. Please accept my apologizes."

"If that's your wish, Your Highness, then I must accept. You are forgiven." The smile on the lady's face was timid but her eyes were smirking.

"Well, then that's settled." Tianshi Xue did not wait for the lady to respond. She didn't want to waste more time with the girl. All she could think about was her new Linker and two weeks on the bed alone.

But then, as soon as she turned her back, Tianshi Xue heard. "As expected from a descendant of the tyrant trash."

Tianshi Xue's legs froze. She knew that she was not being attacked personally. But the princess… whose soul she did not know where… her hands had balled into fists.

There was a collective gasp from the nearby people who also heard about the remark.

Tianshi Xue's emotions were on fire, her eyes glided to the nearby buffet table, looking for something to throw to the lady.

But before she could take another step, a hand closed on her elbow. "You were taking too long," said Prince Qui. "Are you feeling hungry?"

"I feel hungry in a way that I want to punch her face."

Prince Qui's lips turned upwards. She knew that it was to settle the guests—that everything was alright. "Let's deal with this later, shall we?"

Tianshi Xue felt like her face was getting pinched because of her anger. She did not even want to say more in case it would result in more damage. So she nodded to the prince and he lead her back to her throne.

She thought that it would be the end of it. Her emotions would be able to back down when she get a few breaths in. But it seemed like the mini commotion piqued the Emperor for as soon as she sat down, he signalled the musicians to stop playing.

The people automatically turned to look at him, waiting for him to speak.

He stood up from his seat, holding a golden goblet filled with red wine. "It has been a few days since my son, Yang Qui, had gotten married to the most powerful ally that we could have, Princess Yingyue. It's a shame to admit that I have not sent a gift for them as I don't have the perfect one yet.

Well… I think I do have it," the Emperor turned to Tianshi Xue and she was frozen yet again. She hated that she felt like this in his presence. Like she could do nothing. He smiled at her before turning to his new prey. "I have heard of the conversation earlier. Lady Nia, would you please step forward?"

Tianshi Xue's heart drummed in her chest. What was going to happen?! Could it be…?

"Lady Nia?" the Emperor called again.

Lady Nia was stuck in her position. The people around her nudged for her to move and didn't stop until she started walking. Her whole face was red and sweat suddenly became visible on her forehead. She knew that she was in deep trouble. "Yes, Your Imperial Majesty?"

"It was fascinating to see that you have the nerve to name my daughter-in-law trash as if her father's mistakes were hers."

Lady Nia was shaking. The jewelries on her arms started to make some noise. She dropped to her knees and hands. "Forgive me, Your Imperial Majesty. It was a mistake."

"Well, I don't think that depends on me." The Emperor looked at Tianshi Xue. "What say you, Princess Yingyue? Would this make a good gift? Her life for your easement?"

All of Tianshi Xue's muscle curled. Was the emperor going to kill someone because she had been insulted?

"Father," said Prince Qui.

"Hush, Qui," said the emperor in a sweet voice. "Let your wife decide. If she forgives Lady Nia, then I would make sure that her death would be quick. If she doesn't I would make sure that she would suffer before taking her last breath."

Tianshi Xue felt all the blood drained from her face. About a thousand curse words flew in her mind. What the hell is happening?! her mind screamed in panic. Was Lady Nia's life suddenly in her hands?

The Emperor raised an eyebrow at her. "What's it going to be, daughter?"
