Chương 27: You Are Late!

Thea also joined Ivan and Naina and ate their breakfast together.

"So, you have come here to join Ribeiro Academy?" Thea asked Ivan when she heard from Naina about Ivan's goal.

"Yeah, that is my intention. I have this token here with me." Ivan searched his pockets and took a coin-sized token with Ribeiro Academy Emblem on it. He showed it to Thea.

After looking at the emblem, Thea was surprised, but she also shook her head in disappointment.

"What?" Ivan asked, seeing her reaction.

"You are from a Knights family, right? This emblem is given to the Knights so that they can send one of their kids to study in the Academy without taking the test. But you are late by half a month; the recruiting process has ended. The Academy won't enroll you even if you have this token with you. You will have to wait for a year before you can use this token."

"Oh," Ivan only responded with an 'oh' which made Thea and Naina a little dumbfounded.

"You… don't you feel bad for having to wait until another year?" Thea asked curiously.

Ivan had no idea about the Rigerio Academy's value, nor did he planned to join it before getting his back memories. And since he is already late to join it, then that's it.

No need to fuss over the matter since it was already out of his hand.

"Um, I do feel bad, but this scenario was already within my expectation after I got caught by the bandits. I cannot do anything to change it… or can I?" Ivan said since they asked him.

Thea took another look at Ivan; it was rare to see someone staying this calm after knowing they lost a year of training at the prestigious Academy of the White Tiger City. Some people had even gone crazy because of that.

"Well, there is a way to change it, of course. You will need the Duke's recommendation that rules over the White Tiger City, not an easy task. The second method is that you will need to meet the Headmaster and Vice headmaster of the Ribeiro Academy, which is even more impossible unless you already know them personally."

Even if Ivan had known them, he does not remember it at all.

Ivan shook his head.

"Is there no other way?" Naina asked.

Thea thought for a moment.

'Hm, bribing is not an option. Is there something I'm forgetting?... Wait, wasn't there another rule for recruiting students with inherent ability. But does the boy even have one? I need to ask him.' thought Thea.

"There is a way, and it will get you inside the Ribeiro academy at whatever time of the year you knock on their doors."

"What is it?" Ivan asked curiously.

"Ivan, did you awaken any innate abilities. If you have, then you can ask for a private test from the administration staff of the Academy. They would decide a date for the authentication of your ability. If you pass, then your admission is done deal." Thea explained, but she did not have much hope that the young man would have one because if that were the case, then his family wouldn't need to use the token for him.

"Innate ability?" Ivan face turned a little weird.

Although almost everyone can have a chance to train and become a warrior or a knight, not everyone can possess innate ability from the start.

Innate abilities are supernatural and unexplainable powers that are born within the body of few people.

Like the ability to manipulate specific elements without the use of magic, abilities that enhance the power of the whole body or of any particular part like arms, legs, eyes, and their function as the ability to jump higher, see farther, etc.

There are many unique, weird, and mind-boggling mysterious abilities, entirely baffling for the human mind.

It is also impossible to know if a person is born with an innate ability as it stays dormant inside the body and can stay latent until the person grows old and die.

There are only a scant few people that could awaken their dormant Innate ability due to some fortuitous encounter, faced with a dangerous or life-threatening situation, or there comes an event in their life that stimulates the power within them.

Some awaken the innate ability spontaneously when they grow up to become adults; they are the lucky ones. There is no method to awakens one power or to check if the person has an ability before they awaken it, and that is why there are so few people with innate ability in this world.

Taking an analogy, an innate ability user is like the one in ten thousand students who could enter Stanford or MIT. These people are highly sought after, even more than the mages.

And that is why the Ribeiro Academy has a special rule, which entails that anybody with their Innate ability awakened would be allowed to take admission to their institution at any time of the year.

Ivan didn't know all the above information; Thea and Naina did, and she thought Ivan would know it too because of his family.

"Do you have one?" Naina asked, seeing that Ivan did not say no yet. She then remembered about his ability to take out food from thin air. That did seem like an innate ability to her.

Ivan nodded and said, "I indeed have an ability that I awakened after those bandits caught me and put me in a cave. The Innate ability of mine enhances my jumping ability. Will that do the work?" He asked.

Thea looked at Ivan wide-eyed, "You… actually have an Innate ability?"

"Yes," Ivan nodded again. He, in fact, had two abilities or three if the dormant one is counted. But Ivan did not mention them to Thea or Naina. In fact, Ivan's innate ability should be the one that is still dormant, while the other two, Appraise and Peak Human Jump, are abilities that he gained from the system.

"Oh my god, you are a lucky man. The gods must be looking after you. And did you say your innate ability could help you jump higher? That would, of course, do the work; the warrior department of the Academy would definitely like you to join them." Thea said and continued speaking, "Perfect; now you won't face problems at all. Just go and tell the administration staff that you want to take admission into their Academy. Mention about your Innate ability so that they don't send you away. You may be tested then and there, or the staff might give you another day and time to take the test."
