Chương 107: A Glimpse of Real World

"Kaizer!"
Eugene stormed into Kaizer's office, his face flushed with anger. "Why, Kaizer? Why?!"
"Tell me, Kaizer, why did Lord Katnier use the vita spell?!"
Kaizer's gaze deepened as he held Eugene's hand, trying to calm him. But Eugene was furious because the vita spell was his bottom line, and seeing Lord Keerto having a child made him panic for the fate of the unborn.
"Eugene--"
"I'm so fucking tired, Kaizer!"
Eugene's breath came heavy, his eyes wet with a mix of frustration and numbness. He looked at the man before him, who remained silent, likely waiting for him to vent all his emotions at once.
"You know my bottom line. You know my fear."
Eugene sneered, "So why, Kaizer?! Fucking tell me why you allowed your father to perform it when you are here, strong enough to fight him?!"
"And fucking tell me why I only know this now?!"
People in Artha are cruel to themselves, but even more so to others.
Because of what happened to him and his twin, he had long despised the method that made him exist.
A child born through magic will either be unlucky or lucky, and the living proof is them.
He was already tired of his life, and yet another threat came knocking on his door, like a sharp blade pressing against his neck, bleeding him, controlling his every move.
If Lord Keerto gives birth, Eugene is certain a god will descend to bring judgment again, and he, with his record, will be seized and sealed to erase the threat to the divine beings.
He will be targeted repeatedly, or worse, he will be used again because the child came into existence under the eyes of the heaven's favored son. If Khalil watches the birthing process, it's like giving a blessing and erasing any perceived evilness. Isn't it so unfair that they can't harm the heaven's favored child, so they will come after him to pay for their mistakes?
"Kaizer, just what are you planning?"
"You know that if that child is born, I will bear another sin." A sin he didn't commit, but must bear because he is the one filled with dark energy and is believed to be evil.
Kaizer's expression remained unchanged as he coldly said, "I'll protect you."
"If the heavens come after you, I'll fight them and save you."
Eugene retracted his hand and sneered, "Kaizer, I've said this many times."
He rested his palm on the desk and leaned in, "I don't need saving."
Dying is the most wonderful thing for an immortal like him. He isn't afraid of being killed by the heavens or anyone else because death has been his expectation all along. Its just people keep giving him more reasons to give up early.
Why on earth has he been holding on for thousands of years?
If he truly sought death, he could surrender himself and let those damn gods erase his existence, but he didn't. He kept having hope despite being betrayed numerous times. And what's worse? His hope came from the same man who keeps letting his hand slip.
"You're not allowed to come in my room tonight."
Kaizer watch his lover walk away and immediately resume to working. It's not like he didn't care. It's just he think that it's already time to end this scenario because Eugene keeps walking in the same path as it is. If this continue, his lover wouldn't be able to go out of his life maze.
They interfere enough, if this keeps on going, Eugene will forever be trapped in the past. And if that happen then Eugene will forever live in suffering.
So it's time to end everything while it's still peaceful.
He need something to stimulate Eugene, to stimulate those gods to show their presence so he could start his plan.
Artha, must be destroyed.
No matter what happen this world should stop existing in his lover's life.
Wake up. Wake up soon.
Someone is waiting for you outside your long dream. Someone who is your hope, your life and your purpose. The only person who free you from the shackle of those thousand of years suffering. Anyway, in the end it wasn't him who makes his lover feel alive.
It's that person only.
That's why he couldn't help but feel greedy in this illusions.
Because only in illusions he could hold onto his beloved.
"The vitals are exceeding normal speed. The patient is highly stimulated."
"Your Excellency!"
"I received a signal, so I came. How is my [][][]?"
"The patient appears to be stimulated by an unknown force, causing his vitals to spike abnormally. If this rate continues, there are two possible outcomes with different survival rates."
"This stimulation has allowed us to detect your [][][] sea of consciousness energy. We estimate there's a 60 percent chance he'll wake up. However, constant stimulation could damage his mental power, leading to mental exhaustion. The likelihood of fatal damage and the possibility of never waking up are higher."
"My [][][], the [][][], communicated with the Starfleet Institute before he disappeared during battle. I've already received a call about the progress, and they're coordinating with the hospital director to transfer him to the laboratory."
"I didn't expect another stimulation to occur."
"Your Excellency, I believe the Grand Master will wake up. He is a strong man; everyone, including the people of the empire, knows that. We have never lost hope."
"Mmh. Has [][][] visited father these past few days?"
"The young master comes and cries whenever he is aggrieved. He always says he misses his [][][] [][][] and wants the Grand Master to wake up and find the Marshal."
"I'll get going now. If [][][] come and visit tell him to go back to the Marshal Residence."
"Yes!"
Because of his anger, Eugene left the grand dukedom to get some air.
He walked through the market district, looking around to distract himself. The crack in the skies was getting bigger, and he knew that Lord Keerto's pregnancy was one of the triggers for the impending tragedy.
Though he never expected a peaceful life upon returning to Artha, the rapid progression of events was overwhelming, making him feel somber.
"Make way! Make way! Make way! Ahhhh!"
Eugene looked ahead and frowned when a sudden force collided with him.
Instinctively, he grabbed the falling body and held it, preventing the other person from hitting the ground.
Both frowned at the incident, and Chantall, who finally regained control of her body, sighed in relief and straightened up.
"I... thank you very much—y-you..."
Chantall stared at the man who had caught her and couldn't help but be dazed.
"E-Eugene Shradinza!"
Eugene saw the woman straighten up and step back in surprise, and somehow felt a strange emptiness.
He knew the warmth he felt wasn't an illusion because the woman standing in front of him was Chantall, the person he loved most in every timeline. The woman he couldn't forget and the only one who could influence him.
Clenching his hand, Eugene's throat tightened as he asked, "You know me?"
Eugene knew deep down that he no longer loved Chantall. But still, he couldn't help but care.
"Who wouldn't know about you! You're one of the rare dualists of the empire and the one who contributed the most in the war of Nacos! Everyone knows you."
Chantall silently praised herself for coming up with such an excuse.
"I'm sorry for bumping into you. I was practicing my magic and suddenly lost control of my speed."
Eugene hummed, "This isn't a place to practice magic. You should use the academy's facilities for safety."
Chantall's eyes sparkled. "How do you know I'm attending the academy?!"
Eugene almost choked. How could he speak as if they knew each other? He scolded himself internally and replied with a smile, "You have enough mana to practice magic, which is a qualification."
Chantall laughed. "Well, thanks to my light attribute, the church supported my attendance at the academy."
"Well enough," Eugene replied.
"Right! To express my apology, how about I treat you to tea?"
Chantall blushed and continued, "I saw your portrait in the academy as one of the top students with great contributions to the empire. I-I thought if I could ask for guidance from someone like you, I could do well in mock combat."
Eugene stared at Chantall's face, memories of her from each lifetime swirling together. Nostalgia washed over him as he recalled the love he once had for this remarkable woman, and the enduring mystery of why he was never worthy of her.
Chantall had always been like this—easy to talk to, easy to deceive, and easy to hurt. She was a woman who didn't deserve to be destroyed by his presence.
Eugene's expression dimmed, but he quickly masked his emotions and replied, "It's my pleasure."
Maybe because of guilt? That he wanted to be nice.
As Eugene reminisced, Chantall is thinking how to befriend Eugene to increase their interaction and witness firsthand how the characters in the book began to awaken their consciousness and diverge from their original fates.
Before the world ended, she wanted to see with her own eyes how the characters fought for their lives without external control.
Consider this: in her world, countless novels exist, each one creating a parallel world that was originally devoid of human souls. In these stories, the main characters have everything handed to them on a silver platter, while the side characters must work hard to maintain or fight for what they have.
How cruel is it to live in a world controlled by the stroke of a pen?
"Would you care for some sweets?"
Eugene glanced at the pastries a waiter had placed on the table.
Chantall pushed a plate towards him and he offered a word of thanks.
"Actually, I plan to serve in the church once I graduate from the academy," Chantall said with a bitter smile. "But it's not as peaceful there as I had imagined."
Eugene raised an eyebrow.
"Isn't your younger brother the saint?" Chantall continued. "I served alongside him when I volunteered."
A flicker of recognition crossed Eugene's eyes as he recalled his saintly younger brother. He couldn't help but be amused, thinking back to the incident involving Saintess Rebecca.
Looking at Eugene, Chantall suddenly harbored a doubt.
Eugene didn't seem possessed, as she had initially suspected.
Could it be rebirth?!
Chantall shivered.
No! If Eugene had been reborn, she wouldn't be standing here so freely. Knowing the original character of the villain, she would have been kidnapped and imprisoned. But here they were, having tea without any romantic feelings, and Eugene didn't seem to have fallen for her at first sight.
Then...
Chantall frowned. She couldn't make a judgment without being sure.
Besides there's also Milan who is lock in the palace. He is the only person she could talk about what's happening in this world but going in and out in the palace to meet a prisoner of war is difficult. She could rely on Lincoln but he didn't want to have something to do with the crown prince because she felt that Lincoln already have interest in her.
If there is no Maxmillian then maybe she could risk.
However, she's afraid of being killed soon so she's really careful when it comes to interacting with the characters.
The only person she could interact without feeling danger is Cadmus.
Forget about Khalil, she hadn't had much interaction with that bro-con!
"Is Eullian doing great?"
Chantall almost rolled her eyes. Can she say that your younger brother is not acting according to the plot and had gone crazy looking like a villain? Oh not to mention his subtle threats and skilled manipulation of people! If she hadn't transmigrated once and been reborn a second time, she might have been fooled by his act!
"The Saint is doing well and is beloved by his people."
Eugene chuckle, "That's good to hear."
Such an insane person should be kept in church forever.
Chantall/Eugene's thought: Crazy
Others might think that nothing is wrong with Eullian but Eugene already feel that Eullian had changed and there might be something behind those changes. After all, there's no way his innocent little brother could write such a vulgar letter.
It's like becoming a different person overnight.
Well. Whatever, as long as he don't run around blocking him, Eugene wouldn't care much.
And the world would end soon, he would probably travel to another dimension again so he started to careless about what's happening around and just wait for the angels above to descend and fight him to death.
