We were now walking up the pathway up the hill to the school. The slope wasn't particularly steep or anything but walking up the hill everyday must be quite exhausting for the students. I heard that there is another pathway for teachers and faculty members to go up the hill on the other side of the hill which has a proper road that allows them to go up in their vehicles. But I wonder why they decided to build the school on top of a hill that seems like a huge forest mountain?
Well I'm not complaining because the scenery of the pathway is quite stunning, with a row of pretty cherry blossom trees on both sides of the pathway that seemed like they had just bloomed. That included with the old stone floor pathway we were walking on that were weathered with time, looked like we were walking up a hill with a big old Japanese temple on top
To put it in simple terms it was graceful and peaceful experience which made the 500 metre walk up the hill feel like a flower blossom viewing which I wouldn't get bored of seeing any day
It may seem like a trivial thing but it's these small stuff you see everyday which make life so great. You just have to sit down, think of nothing else and look around your place and you'll start to appreciate stuff you've never seen before and will find the beauty in them
It's one of the ways I've managed to keep my peace and not go inane in this filthy, disgusting world that's crawling with vermin and scum
Rena who was walking right next to me looked quite chipper and had a cheerful smile on her face. I asked
"What's up with that happy look on your face?"
She immediately palmed her cheeks and looked at me with a confused look and asked "Huh? Is it really that apparent?"
"Yeah, I could see it a mile away"
"I see…And here I was thinking that I was hiding it properly"
How is that hiding? It was clear as day that she was happy. One thing I've learnt since the very moment I laid my eyes on her is that she is not good at hiding her emotions
If she's happy, she'll have a big smile on her face. If she's angry, she'll glare at you like a threat. If she's embarrassed her cheeks and ears will turn bright red. She basically wears her emotions on her face
Well I don't know if that is a good thing in this world, where people constantly wear masks on their faces and keep their true feelings hidden for their own self gain or to maintain status quo. If she keeps acting like this people will find it very easy to take advantage of her
But it's also a positive thing as it shows that she's a genuine person who doesn't like to hide things and is upfront about everything
That's all just my speculation so it may or may not go that way, but what I do know for a fact is that she would be horrible at a game of poker
"Well of course I'm happy. I finally got rid of that nuisance that was bothering me" She said as if it was obvious
"You mean that Yamada guy?"
"Who else? Do you know how happy I am now that he's finally gone? It's like a I got rid of a huge burden that's been bothering this whole time"
"So you're not bothered that I interrupted you both?"
Well I know what I did was correct but that's only from my point of view. Rena could've been thinking of something else. Maybe she could've wanted to handle the whole situation on her own without my help
Rena then furrowed her eyebrows and said "Huh? Bother? How was that a bother? Rather it was like a god send to me" Like she didn't know what I was talking about
"So you're okay with me stepping in at that time?"
"I wasn't just happy with it, I was elated!" Said Rena in a enthusiastic tone "Especially when you clicked your tongue when he gave that idiotic reason. It's like you took the words right out of my mouth-…No wait". She stopped talking and looked down and then back up at me and said "In this case wouldn't it be more appropriate to say you took the sound out of my mouth?"
"That doesn't really make sense" I replied to which she narrowed her eyes with a frown on her face and said "Don't nitpick on everything"
"S-Sorry"
She then sighed and a sullen expression on her face and continued to say as she looked up the pathway
"Well the truth is even though you firmly told me that I wasn't alone anymore and that you would be by my side yesterday, I still had my doubts and pondered about it all day if what you said was true" She then looked at me and gave a faint smile and said "Surprising right?"
She then looked back up the pathway and continued to say "I know it's horrible that I still had my doubts about you even after everything we went through yesterday and makes me look like a distrustful and sceptical person but I just can't help but doubt everyone that approaches me, thinking that they have other dishonest interests in forming a relationship with me after everything I've been through"
She must have had a really rough past for her to doubt every person she meets. Just thinking about it is scary…
She then gave short half hearted laugh like she was laughing about her own insecurities and with clear eyes and a small smile on her face she said "I guess doubting everything has kinda become a second nature of mine" Like she she was mocking herself
Not one person to trust or believe in this world and constantly questioning if everything a person says is true or not
It seems like nightmare of a life
Just what happened in the past for her to become like this?
But just as I was about to say something to say something to cheer her up, her eyes suddenly brightened up from that sullen look she had before and the half hearted smile that she was showing became a real one and she looked at me and said
"But the moment I saw you rush in front of me without a second's hesitation to stop Yamada, I knew that everything you said was true and I can trust your words. It really showed me that I wasn't alone in this world anymore and I finally have some someone I can rely on in the time of my need". She then gave a small chuckle and said "I don't really want to say some cheesy lines anymore since it's embarrassing for me so I'll just say what I really want to say"
She then came a little closer to me, looked me directly in the eye with a delighted smile on her face and said
"I didn't get to say this but Thank You for saving me yesterday and as well as today. And most of all, Thank You for becoming my friend!"
*Sigh* I guess my worries were for nothing since she seems to be doing really well now. Good for her I guess
I replied saying with a weirded out look on my face
"Woah, what's up with you? Why are you saying all those cringey lines to me all of a sudden? You'reweirding me out!" To which she immediately punched me in the arm with annoyed and angry look on her face and exclaimed "Don't call my heartfelt emotions cringey!"
"Ow! That hurt!" I exclaimed
"Well that's what you get for making fun of me. Hmph!" Said Rena with a frown on her face as she quickly turned away from me
But in a few seconds I heard the sound "Phft…" coming from her side like she was trying to control her laughter and when I looked over to the side she was facing, I saw her trying to hide her face which was on the brink of laughter, with her lips tucked in her mouth trying not to laugh. But when she glanced at me while I was looking at her, she lost it and started laughing
"Phft…Hahahaha!"
Watching her laughing face also made me crack up and I also joined in and started laughing with her
"Hahahahaha…!"
"Hahahahaha…!"
The serious mood that was there previously was completely gone and was replaced with both of us just cheerfully laughing at each other for no damn reason
It had been a long time since I had a moment like this and like I said earlier, even though this may seem trivial in your eyes, it's moments like these which make life so amazing and worth living
Hey guys! I'm back. Took a little longer than I expected to start posting because I was busy with some exam stuff. And because of that same reason I won't be able to post as much as I did before but I'll still try my best to post more frequently (3-4 chaps a week). If my finals get over I can post at a more frequent rate so I hope you guys can wait till then
