Chương 15: Chapter 15

Next to the barber shop there is a pawn shop and a tow truck company. They have many cars parked out front with for sale signs on the windshields. I imagine those are the cars from people who never came to claim their vehicles. "We need wheels." Lexa says. I can feel the guys standing in front of the barber shop smoking stare all over my body as I move around looking at all the cars they have. Typical men, I shake my head.

A guy comes out of the tow truck building once they notice me checking out the cars, he walks with swag in his steps as he makes his way over towards me. Looking over towards the guys at the corner, as if he won an unspoken bet. I sigh, do these guys ever look at themselves in the mirror while doing that stupid walk? I scratch my head in annoyance, "Hello, my name is Mark." He says smiling, extending his hand to shake mine politely and evidently trying to flirt.

I roll my eyes and shake his extended hand. "Can I help you with anything?" he asks I tilt my head looking at him in exasperation, I know he knows I do need his help if I want a car. "That's a stupid question." I say as I walk around. His smile drops and he looks down at his feet in embarrassment. He silently follows me until I come to a beat-up double cabin truck. Its grey color looks matte from the age, it has many dents and huge bald tires. I need to get new tires, these won't last.

On the inside it looks neat, clean and well kept. Whoever had this truck kept it up to date and clean. "I want this one." I say and wait for him to get the keys. I keep inspecting it while waiting, I turn towards him folding my arms in front of my chest and tap my foot on the ground impatiently, I don't have time to lose and I don't see him move. "Don't you want something smaller?" he asks instead trying to lead me to a black mini cooper they have.

I scrunch up my nose in distaste, "I don't want that thing. I want the truck, are you going to get me the keys or do I have to ask for someone else to come help me?" I ask angrily. He lifts his hands up in surrender and walks back inside to get the keys for me. He hands them to me, "Get in." I say and immediately turn the truck on. It purred to life quickly, I peel off for a test drive and floor it. I giggle at the guy as he grabs ahold of the door handle in fear.

The purrs from the engine makes me feel giddy like a schoolgirl. This would be my first car, now I just need to take my license out, but I'll work that out later, I need to get to where Lexa wants me to go. I head back to the tow truck building and park right where it was. "We're not far from where we need to go, pay and let's leave." She says urging me to hurry. I turn back to the guy, "I want it." I say following him inside to fill all the paperwork and pay.

"Can I have your number?" Mark asks when I finish paying and turn to leave. "No." I answer simply, I have to much on my plate right now and I don't need any more drama. I open the truck and throw my bag in the back seat and put my backpack on the seat next to me. I crank the truck on and drive. "You need to give me directions." I say to Lexa as I peel off not knowing where to go. She pushes to the front and takes control without pushing me to the back.

She drives us deeper into the woods, I look in the rearview mirror to see if any cars where following us and notice my eyes are glowing. "Lexa our eyes are glowing, won't people notice?" I ask her a little panicked. She giggles, "That will always happen when I'm co-piloting or in full control. There is nothing either of us can do about that but grab some very dark shades." She says. I nod and pay attention to the scenery instead to learn the way.

Even though I am completely lost, she drives as if she has been here before, she pulls up to a big gate and gets off the truck. We walk up to a keypad on the wall hidden behind a large tree, one that if you didn't know it was there you wouldn't have known otherwise. She punches in a code and the gates open. We quickly walk back to the truck and drive in; we wait until the gate closes and continue. I see shadows in the trees while we drive forward making me panic. How can anything keep up with our truck? Half an hour to forty minutes later I can see we're coming up to a huge mansion.

My heart hits in overdrive as soon I can see the mansion clearly. There are men surrounding the mansion with rifles pointed towards the truck as we come to a complete stop in front. These men quickly surround the truck, "What the heck is this? You brought me here to get killed?!" I scream at Lexa in panic. Lexa rolls her eyes in annoyance and lifts our hands up in surrender, the door is opened by one of the guys and he roughly pulls us out. He pulls my hands behind my back roughly and ties them together. The men surrounding the mansion put their rifles down and the ones that surrounded the truck make a circle around us. One grabs my elbow and pulls me towards the front doors.

Chương 16: Chapter 16

Not one of them make small talk, letting me know these men are trained to protect someone. Someone very important to them, in so much danger that they are hidden from the world and surrounded by highly trained people. The door is opened by a man dressed as a butler. They hold me in place, in front of the massive stairway. I look around in awe, the place is decorated beautifully, everything looks delicate and old. "Who are you and how do you know the code to enter my home?" an older lady asks as she makes her way down the stairway.

"You gave me that code you old hag." Lexa hisses and I curse her timing, I wish I could pull the words back inside my mouth and down my throat. She takes full control and whatever they had tied my hands with falls to the ground melted. She elbows the guy behind us in his gut making him bend automatically wheezing without air, she grabs his head, knees his nose breaking it and knocking him out. She fists our hand and throws a punch to the throat to the guy that reached out to hold us making him back away chocking.

She quickly takes ahold of the rifle aimed for our head to knock us out, she pushes it back roughly towards the guys nose breaking it and taking it out of his hands throwing it away from us. The lady starts clapping and laughing looking deranged. I narrow my eyes at her, I think we need to call the looney bin, a patient of theirs escaped. "Cassandra…" she snorts un lady like and shakes her head frowning. "Who would have thought. Of all the shifters that could have been re-born it had to be you." She snarks shaking her head in disappointment.

"Who is Cassandra and what the heck did you do to the crazy lady?" I ask Lexa confused looking at their interaction. "Cassandra was my last hosts name; her daughter and my last host were best friends since they were babies. Unlike us, her daughter dreamed of the day she would have a mate. So, it wasn't a surprise to anyone when she accepted a marriage proposal one year after our arrival to this country. She mated with the male and was killed by his true mate. While carrying their heir and the next generation." She responded.

Okay, that still doesn't answer my question. "She was supposedly going to meet with me when she was killed. Her mother found her ripped to pieces in the woods by her home but no signs of the life she carried." She whispers sadly. Okay, now I get it. I would hate my guts too. I sigh, "Why did you bring me here? Why come here when you know she hates you? She won't help us." I say. I sure as heck wouldn't help someone who I think killed my child. "How do you know it was the true mate?" I ask curious.

"Her scent was everywhere, and her DNA was under Amairahs claws." She answers. I scratch my head waiting for the lady to stop walking and murmuring to herself. There's a small table with two chairs by the door we just entered from. I walk towards the chairs and sit. The guards look at each other uncomfortably not liking to be in this situation. I think the lady never had a meltdown of this magnitude. Our arrival put things upside down for them.

The lady stops moving and breathes in, "What do you want Cassandra?" she finally asks fisting her hands by her side and turning her glowing silver eyes to me. I gasp, "You're a shifter." I whisper in shock and take a breath of relief. That's why she brought me here, "I thought you said we were slaughtered or something like that." I say to Lexa. "I need you to train my new host and its Analiah now." She answers and we hear the boisterous laugh of the lady.

"You have lost your ever-loving mind." She roars in anger, her eyes glow brighter and fur starts to protrude through her skin. "We need your help Amara… you're the last elder of our people." Lexa begs for her to understand but all I see is the anger in Amara's eyes grow deeper. The wound provoked by her daughters' murder runs deep and she made up her mind about who to blame. Her roars came louder every time Lexa tried to reason with her, her cry is full of despair and anguish.

She hasn't accepted her daughter's death. "You're making things worse." I reason with Lexa, "Feel her pain Nahlexa, put yourself in her shoes. She won't help us, not now at least let's leave." I whisper. Amara's roars soon become whines and cries of pain. "How long ago did your last host die?" I ask Nahlexa. I feel her stop on her spot in shock, yeah, I didn't even expect to ask that question so soon, but I need to know if we can push a little more or drop it.

"One year and three weeks." She whispers lowly and relinquishing control little by little. "How long ago before that, was her daughter killed?" I ask and I hear Lexas soft whines. "One year." She answers. So, if the child survived, they would be two years old now. I push Lexa back softly, "I'm sorry for your loss, I'll take my leave." I say to Amara and walk towards the door. "How old are you kid?" Amara asks. "Sixteen." I answer and close the door behind me.

"Where are we going to go." I ask Lexa but she doesn't answer me. I can feel her pain from me opening old wounds and her frustration with Amara. I can feel how much it really hurt her to speak to her, to ask for her help knowing there is water under that bridge. She just wanted me to have the best teacher I could have, "Lexa you need to back off, if you keep insisting, she won't help us. Let her cool off, then maybe she might come around." I say as I crank the truck to life and peel off down the road we came.
