Chương 68: War 6

(I'm sorry for the short Hiatus, but some problems appeared and it took a lot of time to fix so yeah.)
<Eric Jarl POV>
I was cuddling with Beth when Maxson decided to cut my cuddling time and call me to the gate.
After a short kiss and a promise that I will come back and spend some time with her, I walked out of the room making my way towards the gate.
When I arrived there, Maxson, Alexander, Ivan, and Maria were already waiting for me.
"How did the mission go? Did you manage to find the rebels?"
"Even better than we expected, boss. We saved a guy that was branded as a traitor by some guards and after a little bit of persuasion using only my words, the guy was happy to accept the idea of creating a group of people that are treated like slaves by the governor's loyalists into a rebellion and after we liberate the town, they will join us. The man that I saved and I presume will be the leader is Samuel O'Brian. He will take care of the tank for us and who knows. Maybe he will help our raiding team somehow."
"Thank you, Ivan, Maria for risking your life doing an infiltration mission for us to get a better chance of winning this war."
"No problem, sir!"
"You don't have to thank us, boss. We are soldiers and that's our duty, though I appreciate the compliment. Ah, boss, Samuel told me something that may interest you. The governor plans to attack the prison. The only good thing is that they won't attack too soon, but I bet that they will start their attack in two weeks or so."
"Fucking perfect, we have to move fast or we will lose too many good people. Thank god, the chopper has already returned and Andrew will arrive in an hour or two. That's forty-five soldiers and one tank. Plus the air support and the mounted vehicles."
"That's good then. Boss, if you excuse us now."
"Yeah, you are free to go."
After the do left, I was looking at Maxson and Alexander, clearly waiting for them to report the situation of our raiding party.
"So? What did our raiding party achieve?"
Maxson was the first one to answer: "Our first team met one of the governor's scavenging parties and after tailing them for a while they engaged the enemy, killing ten guards as they call themselves. One of our soldiers was injured, but his wound isn't life-threatening. He should recover in a week give or take a day or two."
I just nodded at his report. Our first team did an exemplary job dealing with the guards and they even brought the resources the guards were bringing back to their town. Turning my head towards Alexander, I could see that the second and our last team didn't win that easily.
"The second team, they were hit pretty badly by the guards. It seems that the guards found a working APC. Our men didn't know about that APC and the squad leader engaged the enemy. The fight against the troops has ended with our team killing all of the guards without taking any casualties, but after a minute the APC stormed their position killing two men and injuring another one. The poor girl has barely survived, though her legs were badly injured. My brother managed to jump on the APC and opened the cupola, from where he quickly killed all of the guards inside. Fifteen enemies killed, two KIA on our side, one WIA and one APC captured."
"How's the girl doing?"
"She's stable, our combat medics managed to stabilize her, but they don't know if she will be able to walk again or at least any time soon."
"Shit, thank you for reporting. She's in the improvised infirmary right?"
Alexander and Maxson nodded at me before both of them walked to do their duties.
When I arrived at the infirmary, I saw the second team, seven men and women chatting with the girl on the bed. When they saw me, they tried to greet me with a salute, but I just waved at them telling them to be at ease.
They didn't intrude any longer and after a short goodbye, they left me with the girl.
I decided to encourage her by telling her my story and how I was in a comma hoping that by hearing my story she will feel better and that she won't be sad. By the time I finish my story, she was crying and I knew I had to hug her in order for her to calm down.
After five minutes, she calmed down and thanks me for trying to cheer her up.
When I was sure that she was ok, I left, not before I thank her for her effort and I told her that I was hoping she would get better. By the time, I found myself back in Beth's room, I already talked with Andrew and Paul about our next move.
Entering through the door as a normal person would do, I saw Beth on her bed reading a book she found in one of her scavenging runs.
"So, what do you think?" Beth asked. I was quite confused, what could she talk about? What did she want for dinner? Even though Beth had never been a city girl, I decided, wisely, I may say, to not argue with her. What she chooses is what we eat.
Sometimes I just wanna keep her in my arms, hugging her all day long, but I know, she knows that we can't. I have a lot of things to be sure of and a lot of things to take care of while she was trying to help everywhere she could.
"Good night, love!."
"Good night, my little bunny."
