Chương 24: God vs Viking
On our way to Amanda and Olivia, we didn't saw any zombie on the road, not even in the cars or in alleys, which was strange. Normally, zombies will rush towards a source of noise, but now? Not even a corpse can be seen on the streets.
Jon: Something's fishy. The city is to quiet.
Tanaka: There was a rumor among the survivors that we saved. There may be a man that survived the infection. He's seen as a god by his followers and even zombies won't attack him. I didn't believe this rumor then, but, now, it may be true.
Paul: A god you say? What do you think Eric?
Eric: 120 mm of pure force should do the trick. No god will come in this hell for a vacation. If it breaths or move you can kill it.
Lee: You referred to the M1 Abrams main gun right?
Eric: Of course. I don't believe that a human body can withstand a projectile like that. Even if somehow the ''god'' can survive that attack it will be harmed.
Jon: I hope it's true. I don't want to fight a god.
Eric: Neither do I, but we don't get what we want or dream of.
Half an hour later we arrived at the location where Amanda and Olivia were trapped.
Looking around the place we saw a horde of zombies looking at something. Seeing that we may have to fight, I signaled Jon to over watching the place from a good position. He climbed a fire escape to one of the building's roof. Paul called the girls and found that they heard us and will join us as soon as they arrived at our location.
Eric: Lee, you and Paul should remain here in the car. You two will cover us in case the horde attacks us. You have the green light for using the machine gun. Tanaka, you will come with me and see if our friends are still alive in the tank.
After I give the orders to my team, I picked my shield and ax. Looking one more time at the motionless horde, I and Tanaka slowly advance towards the tank.
When we arrived in front of the tank, I felt a pair of eyes looking at me. I know that the gaze wasn't from someone in any building nearby as Jon will have seen it first. When I climbed on top of the tank, I saw something that will haunt the rest of my life: A freak, like the ones we killed stood on top of an ambulance looking right at me.
Tanaka climbed the tank and saw the freak and he too was stunned by the sight. With a weak pat on his shoulder, I brought him back to his senses.
Eric: Tanaka, see if our friends are inside the tank.
Tanaka: Will you be ok? With that thing looking at us?
Eric: If that thing would have wanted us dead, we won't be standing here right now.
After Tanaka climbed down, I looked back at the freak only to see him walking towards me. Is this a challenge to a fight or it may be something more.
Clenching my teeth, I decided to walk in front of the tank and wait for the fight that may come.
When the freak was 10 meters away from me, I heard Jon asking for permission to shot, but just as I was about to speak, I hear another voice. Something that made me a freak like there's no tomorrow. And the worst part? It was speaking directly in my head.
Voice: Bold move for a human. Most of your kind would have shot at me or even tried to run. Unfortunately for them, the only result will be death.
Looking at the freak, I somehow knew that he was the owner of the voice that I heard.
Eric: SO WHAT NOW?
Freak: First things first, we should introduce ourselves. I'm known as the Faceless Hunter.
Eric: Eric Jarl. What the fuck are you?
Freak: Most of us think that we are a new race, but I know that I'm just a zombie,like these mindless ones. The only difference is that I kept a little of my human side after I was killed. Thus referring to me to a Sentient Volatile Zombie.
Eric: Volatiles… That's the name of the ones that are scared of light.
Sentient Volatile: Hmmm, you fought some of us and lived to tell the tale. You will be a fine hunter if we infect you.
Eric: No thanks. I like to be alive.
Sentient Volatile: Don't worry; you will be mostly feeling alive. Pain, hunger thirsty even lust and anger will still be available to you if you join us. We are better than everything in this world. We are the new gods.
Eric: Which means that I'm a god slayer? No thanks. I rather hunt you down than hunt with you.
Sentient Volatile: Is that your final answer?
Eric: It is.
Just as I said my sentence, the volatile pounced at me, ready to kill me. Unfortunately for him, I was ready for an attack and just as he was about to hit me, I brought my shield to kiss his face.
When he hit the shield, I could tell how strong the attack was. I was sure that if he would have hit me, I would have been dead. Without waiting for me to regain my balance, the volatile snatched the shield out of my hands.
Without my shield, I was just like a baby in front of a tiger. I was sure that I will die if I don't do something was and just as he was about to attack me, I heard someone firing. In the next second, a bullet hit the chest of the volatile, making the freak hit the ground. When I saw that the volatile was hit by a bullet, I knew that this was my chance and without waiting for the freak to get up, I activated my ax upgrade and slashed at the volatile head.
The freak saw the ax blade coming towards his head, but the injury that the bullet made was too great for him to move this soon. The ax cut right through his neck, killing the volatile for good.
Now, that this enemy was dead, I can sit and relax for a moment. Unfortunately, Tanaka opened the hatch of the tank.
Tanaka: You alright?
Eric: Been better. Found something?
Tanaka: Just four dead bodies. All of them are from the soldiers that drove this tank.
Eric: It seems that they had a guardian angel to save their hides. Can you drive this thing?
Tanaka: I was a police officer. Not a tank driver.
