Lucas sat on the bed and stroked my head.

"As I said, why are you apologizing?" I laughed, trying to make the desolate atmosphere brighten.

"I should've protected you." Lucas answered seriously.

Seeing the always arrogant Lucas look as if he hates himself so much for being unable to protect me, I couldn't help but become serious, and my heart softened.

"It's not your fault." I assured him. "I mean it." Really.

"I shouldn't have left you alone." He clenched his fists tightly, his eyes unfocused and filled with anger.

I touched his hand, and this made him look me in the eyes.

"It's not your fault." I repeated and said in finality.

The two of us stayed still for a moment as we stared at each other, Lucas' anger seeming to have been gradually lessening.

Lucas finally sighed and his anger seemed to be gone.

The anger directed to himself, that is.

Lucas then leaned down to and hugged me.
