Chương 225: The Master From The North

Travis patted a creature in front of him.

It was a massive bird, it was a whitish gray color. It took Travis a full week to complete the hidden requirements to tame the creature.

In fact a previous player had spent two months, they had made a journal of their progress on the Forums. Yet that didn't grow popular until the bird itself was spotted later.

Travis could have done it within two days. The delay was due to the trial and error it took. Now he had obtained the very item he wished for.

[Strangely White Feather]

Rank: Legendary

A feather from a massive beast known as the Roc. Perhaps pouring some mana into might make something happen?

Unlike equipment, tamed creatures, mounts, summons, and pets do not follow the same ranking.

Instead it follows the traditional one. Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Mythical. Travis recalled their being rumors about Ancient ranked ones, but one had never shown up in his past timeline.

He had obtained the Roc to fly him north, its speed and power were much to his liking.

Hopping on top of it the Roc took flight. The trees sailing past underneath him. Travis saw as large cities and kingdoms became mere spots underneath him as the Roc flew higher.

Travis relaxed and pondered, he wished to name the Roc but was unsure. He wasn't that great at naming.

His lips opened and he asked, "Abe, any ideas?"

'Hmm?'

"A name for this guy."

'I didn't take you as someone who cared for such things.'

"Do I not?"

'You hunger for power, so I always assumed that your every choice was based around that. Does naming this guy give you any benefit?'

Travis sighed, "No. Do you know why I crave more power?"

'Revenge?'

"Partially, in fact I could easily take revenge currently."

'Then. . . what?'

"To prevent the tipping of balance. At first all I cared was to become stronger for revenge, to improve my life. However as I grew I realized what the root of the problem is. As the ones with numbers focus on growing while suppressing the smaller groups."

'Isn't that natural? Power means everything.'

"But is it fair?"

'Fair isn't a thing in this world.'

"Then the one's with power make the rules?"

'Yes.'

"Then I will be the one to make those rules. To prevent those who abuse their power to suppress those weaker than them. Everyone is given the same starting point, the same playing field. I shall not let people be restricted due to greed."

'. . .'

"We are getting off track here. I need a name."

'How about Ru?'

"Not bad, I like it. Ru it is then."

The Roc made a sound in return. Perhaps it was of protest, or joy. Travis didn't know, for he did not speak bird language.

Travis rested comfortably on Ru's back. Taking his mask off and placing it on his chest he sighed. It was going to be a long trip.

"No can do."

A blacksmith pushed two items towards Wrock.

Wrock collected the items, "Is the material too little?"

"No, it's more than enough. I simply do not have the skill necessary to improve it."

Wrock paused, he had asked the blacksmith of a Kingdom! After putting the items into his inventory he asked, "Is there anyone who can?"

The blacksmith pinched their chin, "Hmm, you can try the Royal Blacksmith. However getting to meet that one is a lifetime opportunity."

Wrock received a notification.

<Received Quest! Meet The Royal Blacksmith]!>

[Meet The Royal Blacksmith (Quest)]

A Kingdom's well respected Blacksmith is incapable of fulfilling your request. As such he has recommended you meet the Royal Blacksmith!

Objective: Meet the Royal Blacksmith

Difficulty: C

Time Limit: None

Reward: ?

Failure: None

Wrock closed the quest info and asked, "Where could I find this Blacksmith?"

"Royal Blacksmith.", they corrected, "You can find her in the palace. Good luck however, you would need the King's permission. Even if you have permission she may not come to meet you."

"Thank you for your time."

"No problem, this incident had increased my desire to improve. Perhaps I can make a quality weapon this time around."

Wrock left the blacksmith to their thoughts. The palace wasn't far, in fact it took only ten minutes with a casual walk.

Upon reaching the gates a guard lifted a halberd, "Halt! What business do you have at the Royal Palace?!"

Wrock answered casually, "I wish to meet with the King."

"Meet with the King?! He isn't-"

The guard seemed to realize something and lowered the halberd, "My apologies, I had not realized you were a Martial Founder. Please go ahead, His Majesty would be pleased to meet you."

Wrock was baffled, he actually faced the situation of 'names with benefits' again!

Still he gratefully walked past. As he walked up the marble path he couldn't help but be impressed on how clean and beautiful the place looked. It almost seemed like it hasn't been touched since its creation.

Wrock walked up to the Palace doors. A guard walked over, "It is a pleasure to meet you Founder, I have already notified His Majesty of your arrival. Please, go ahead."

Wrock was beginning to realize the status of his class.

Two guards opened the main entrance doors, showing Wrock a grand spectacle.

Ru landed, his weight making the ground shake slightly. Travis slid off and patted his feathers, "You can go now."

Ru took off into the sky. Travis looked forward, "Now if I remember correctly."

He walked up a rocky hill. The sounds of his footsteps seemed to echo around him.

Travis frowned, the place was in the open! There was no obvious reason for it to echo.

A voice shouted from above, "Leave you rascals!"

Travis ignored the command and kept walking up the hill. The voice grew frustrated, "I'll beat you senseless! Get out of here!"

Travis took a few more steps before a figure appeared in front of him, "I warned you-! Oh. . . you're not who I thought you were."

Travis tilted his head slightly forward whilst greeting, "Pleasure to meet you."

The figure was an old man. The complete package, a gray dusty cloak covering most of their figure, with a long beard only a single shade darker than his cloak. He held a stick in his right hand, using it as a crutch. The only neat thing about his appearance was his hair, seemingly brushed and tied into a ponytail.

The man inspected Travis, "That mask. . . why do you wear it?"

"It would be troublesome for me to be recognized out here."

"Intriguing. Come, drink some tea with this old man."

The figure vanished, causing Travis' eyes to narrow. He was being tested. This was something he could tell.

The old man hadn't used any skills at all. This was pure speed, was he testing Travis' own strength to react?

Even with his eyes he couldn't even see an afterimage. The difference in strength was obvious.

The old man on the other hand sighed, he was relieved it wasn't an old foe who came for his life. Being unable to react to his speed meant the mysterious visitor was at First or Second Stage.

The old man stopped, Travis immediately locked onto his location. Travis frowned in frustration, it seemed that he failed.

Travis walked over and the old man continued, this time at a normal pace.

Eventually Travis was lead into a cave, despite its looks it held a nice homey feel. The old man gestured for Travis to sit. An old wooden table with three chairs sat in a corner of the cave.

Travis took a seat as the old man prepared some tea. As the water boiled the man asked, "So what brings you out here?"

"To grow stronger."

"Mm, a lot of people desire the same."

"Then I am no different."

"So what do you possibly want from out here? There is nothing to help you."

". . ."

"Not saying huh."

The old man poured some tea and served it to Travis. With a little hesitation Travis took off his mask, if he intended to learn from this man then he should show some respect.

The old man raised his eyebrows, "An Abyssal Being? Quite strong for a First Stage as well. Why aren't you in the Everlasting Abyss?"

"If you are aware of the Everlasting Abyss then you may be also aware of the fierce competition."

"So you're a Royal, odd. Usually those would focus on training a candidate than themselves."

The old man sipped the tea, "Allow me to introduce myself, I am Zanyill. Mainly known as the Cave Hermit, much to my displeasure."

"Travis, Baron of the Abyss."

"So how long do you plan to stay around these parts?"

"Hopefully for a while."

Zanyill raised an eyebrow, "Really?"

Travis took a breath, "I would like to learn from you."

"Hmm?"

Travis remained still. Zanyill inspected him with a new interest, "You're a strange one. I'm merely a hermit, what could I possibly teach you?"

"Your speed was enough for me to realize your strength."

"You sure know how to flatter someone don't you?"

Zanyill sighed and placed the teacup on the table, "I cannot guarantee I will be of help. Perhaps a spar may please you? I am not looking to teach anyone."

"That will suffice."

"Then once the tea is finished let us go back outside."
