After escorting his grandparents home, as they had lost any motivation for the feast, Alvar began to march to the great hall on his own, having long since grown tired of all the melancholy the day had drowned him in. All that remained was anger and the desire to find out what happened to his uncle's soul that bloody night and possibly do something about it, if he could of course.
Thus, while calming his mind, like he was trained to do, Alvar entered the warm light that was shining through the entrance that lead into the great hall, already able to hear the boisterous Norn, young and old alike, celebrating life after a long day of remembering the dead.
As he let his gaze roam over the scene before him it became apparent to Alvar that the organizers of the feast had done everything they could to create a feast that would still be talked about once the next one was rolling around the corner.
Rows of long tables stretched far into the last corners of the great hall at which every single Norn, except a select few that weren't in the mood for the feast, had taken place and drank rivers of mead, ate of prey that was roasting over the great bonfire built in the middle of the great hall, and told stories of the adventures they had lived through or moments of love and joy they had experienced.
Letting his gaze drift from the left to the right of the great hall Alvar was witness to a group of Norn crying out in celebration while in the middle of the group stood a man and woman, embracing each other, that had obviously commenced their union just about now as was popular at the end of the day of the dead. After all, for many people marriage and the resulting blooming of life soon afterwards was the ultimate representation of the joys of life.
With a small smile at the display of happiness Alvar continued to let his eyes wander over the crowd, all the while slowly walking into the great hall, as he was looking for his friend Veli who had told him that they would meet at the great hall at the end of the day to celebrate together.
After a few seconds of a slow decent Alvar spotted his friend animatedly waving at him from the far back of the great hall, obviously trying to get Alvar's attention. After realising that the one waving was his friend Veli he waved back and began to march over to his friend's position, diving right into the sweet fragrance that wafted through the great hall while he entered a warm cloud of emotion at the last step of the stairs that lead into the great hall.
As soon as Alvar arrived at the table his friend Veli was sitting at a pair of warm arms engulfed him, to which he reciprocated with his own embrace, patting his friend on the back a few times in the process.
After a few seconds they both let the other go free followed by Veli motioning for Alvar to take a seat animatedly. "Come, come Alvar! Have a seat! Dude, the organizers of the feast surpassed themselves this time! I swear, I've never tasted food this good or drank mead this smooth!" Veli spoke while pressing a horn filled with warm mead, as Alvar could feel through the horn's interior, into his chest.
Taking the horn with a small thankful nod Alvar went over to the long table and sat himself down in a free spot next to Veli, his attention immediately wandering over to a wildly gesticulating Norn that was telling all the people around him of one of his adventures, no doubt.
"I had followed the tracks of the beast for over a month now and was sure that it had taken shelter in order to sleep through the long winter. But ohh was I wrong! Once I entered the cave in order to claim my prey I came upon a whole herd of Minotaur! Of course I knew that I had to do something about such a large herd so close to Hoelbrak and so I threw a mighty fireball at the ceiling of the cave to cause a cave in! While the stony ceiling rained down upon the herd the leader, whom I had followed all those days, managed to leave the cave and promptly came rushing at me! I swear, I nearly wet my pants at the sight of its bloodshot eyes while charging at me head on! But in the end I manage to throw down my foe against the hull of a strong tree behind me. The spirits clearly were on my side that day…" The Norn finished his tail and everyone that had listened to his retelling of his adventure broke out into boisterous cheers, causing the teller to grin in happiness and glory.
Taking away his eyes from the group where another Norn, a female this time, began to retell one of her own stories, under the expecting eyes of those around her, Alvar let his gaze roam over the rest of the hall, his mind still thinking about what he had heard from the Havroune tonight. While he was going through a few ideas on how he could try to find out what may have happened his eyes came to rest on a lone figure that was standing aside from all the partying folks, a person he had not seen since the day they received the introduction into their professions and at that very moment it struck Alvar like a thunderbolt. Who would know better how the soul of a person could be claimed than someone that regularly dealt with the dead, a necromancer? Thus, Alvar stood up and walked over to the old and scary man under the curious eyes of his friend Veli who wandered what his friend was up to this time.
hope you enjoyed it!
Gerdi had wanted to join Veli at the feast but her parents had forbidden her from attending, as her mother and grandmother had their own tradition on how the day of the dead was to be concluded. Even though she understood that perfectly clear, she still wanted to go and join Veli at the feast and maybe even get a little bit closer to him. But no, her stupid mother had to spoil her plans and instead have her join the two older women in another prayer, as if they hadn't had enough of those today already, to honour the memory of her father and grandfather, both people she didn't even know in the first place, and it drove her up the wall!
Gerdi had never really understood why her family was so fixated on the past and dwelled so much on their sorrow for the two that had passed on shortly before her birth. When Veli was not involved she was a very calculating person, both traits she had inherited from her mother, so she thought it was kind of understandable that her mother and grandmother were so attached to her father and grandfather, as they must have been to them like Veli was to her.
But that fact alone was something that made her furious sometimes. Couldn't they understand that she had someone like they had had in the past and should, instead of binding her to the past encourage and help her for the future she would have together with Veli?
But no, no matter what she had said her mother and grandmother hadn't budged on the matter which resulted in her current position, kneeling behind her captors in frustration.
But a light on the horizon was in sight as the two older women usually drowned themselves in their sorrow on this special day, which would provide Gerdi with ample opportunity to escape this hellhole through one of the open windows and join her love in the great hall.
Once she sensed her opportunity was ripe she slowly stood up and soundlessly snuck out of the window and into the night…

As soon as Veli had spotted his friend Alvar that night he knew something had happened to his friend, again… Sometimes he wondered if his friend was just some kind of special magnet for trouble as he had a hand for getting into weird and not so funny situations from time to time without doing anything to cause them.
Thus, it only mildly surprised Veli when he saw his friend stand up and walk over to the one person Veli was not so eager to help solve problems or something alike. The necromancer, if he remembered correctly from the day they were introduced to the various instructors, a person that had and still was giving him the creeps in epic proportions!
His attention though was ripped away from his friend by the sight of the one girl he had hoped would appear tonight, the brunette from his squad and he had tried to prepare himself mentally as much as possible for this occasion! Of course Alvar had left him hanging right about now, that traitor… No matter, Veli wouldn't let such a chance slip right through his fingers. Thus, with an intake of air to muster up his courage, Veli stood up and walked over to the girl that always caused butterflies to nearly burst out of his stomach and sent tingles all over his limbs every time he saw her smile…
With a hand slightly wet from sweat Veli tipped the brunette on the shoulder, causing her to turn around only to come face to face with the brightly red glowing face of Veli who tried his best to remain calm.
"H-hi! I was just sitting over there when I saw you sitting not far away from me." Veli spoke while swallowing the lump of jittery in his throat down, causing the girl to smile at him, again in that way that sent him float through clouds 1-500!
"Veli, right?" She asked with an impish smile to which Veli nodded with barely supressed glee at the fact that the girl still remembered his name!
"YES! I mean, yes. I was wondering if you would maybe like to dance? Only a little of course and if your par—" Veli began brambling only to get interrupted by the further brightened face of the brunette who furiously began to nod and rushed of to the bonfire where some people where already dancing, pulling the overtly surprised but still happy Veli behind her like a doll.
Soon the two were shyly standing opposite each other, none sure who should make the first move until Veli mustered up his courage and held out his hand which she promptly took, followed by the two slightly embracing each other in order to sway to the rhythm of the music, their hearts booming like thunder in their chests from its rapid beating.
"You know, I never got your name?" Veli said to which the girl only smiled before responding with a grin.
"I never told you now, did I?" her words causing Veli's face to heat up once more in embarrassment but he still wanted to know it so he kept going.
"So, what is your name then? Or is your name embarrassing?" Veli asked, earning him a slight smack to the shoulder to which he yelped a little in surprise.
"No, my name is not embarrassing! I personally really like it. It's Brunhilde…" The brunette said, though her words drifted of in uncertainty to the end but unnecessarily so as Veli really liked the name and nodded furiously in agreement at her statement, which in turn blossomed another happy smile on her face.
Afterwards the two simply danced in silence, though not without awkwardness, as none of the two knew what else to talk about. But none the less Veli enjoyed their time together immensely.
Hope I managed to bring the awkwardness and innocence across a little bit^^
