Waking up I realized I was laying down on an elevated table in the middle of a small post-modern laboratory. Screen and electronics of all sorts covered the room. Standing over me is a suitless Quarian. She looked tall and very muscular. She has pale purple pupilless eyes and long black strands coming from her head. They were like hair but significantly thicker and there were fewer of them. Behind her stood a massive bipedal lizard. The Krogan was around 8 feet tall and 400 pounds. She was covered in thick heavy armor colored in a familiar green. There was also very light scarring on the right side of her face. While I was looking around the other two seemed stunned and bewildered. Assuming these two are Suki and Toph it may take some time before they catch up with their new memories. Being dropped in here let me come to my senses quicker, but I'm still very confused.
Then I realize how much quicker I came to my senses all of my pondering and observations have occurred in less than a quarter of a second. My mind is going so much faster. I checked the rest of my body. Whoops ran a diagnostic, I am fully functionally though. I wonder if I can connect to the internet. Oh, I can and it's called the extranet. OH GOD turn it off. There is so much porn! How can there be so much porn? I have seen all of the porn.
"Silva are you okay?" The Quarian standing above me asks
"Yea I'm fine Suki. How was absorbing all of those memories? How about you Toph?"
"I'm better than good. This is amazing. I'm so big and I can see. Is this what it's like for you seeing people? I think I get it. Although not having earth beneath me is frustrating. All of this metal it's like I'm in prison, but I'm just not."
"Silva, you didn't get any new memories right?"
"No, and I'm still getting a little used to my body. What happened for you two to get here?"
"The mad scientist rescued me from a cloning pod and I've been guarding her ever since."
"It all started when I left the flotilla for my pilgrimage. I was looking for an agricultural research facility, but when I got there it was abandoned. I searched through what was left and found out it was a black site for off the book's projects. I found Toph there on a sub-level. I freed and nursed her back to health. Then I got a bit curious. And so did Toph, we wanted answers, so using the data we found at the facility we started hunting for more sites. We found a lot of cool stuff, but honestly, it's way less cool now. Everything we found correlated to things we picked. We had found a lot of money as well, but we spent almost all if it building you. So doing all of that didn't really get us anything extra." Suki explained. Then I thought about it.
"Suki"
"Yea?"
"Have you been stealing incredibly valuable research material from some unknow well funded shady amoral organization?" I ask to which I am met by silence.
"Toph have you been covering Suki's tracks so that she can't be found?" More silence. Okay, that's not good.
"Well, two possibilities, bad and very bad. Which would you like to hear?"
"Bad" They answer.
"Hopefully you've been stealing from a criminal organization which would explain why we have 3 assassins after us. Which would mean your actions were just setting up our drawbacks. Or you've been stealing from legitimate governments, so in addition to our drawback assassins we are also being hunted by citadel government."
"Hopefully the first one" Suki said timidly.
"Oh wait it's actually option 3."
"What's option 3?" Suki asked hopefully
"Extremely bad. Because the regular bad option was never a real option. Toph is a genetically engineered super-soldier, you made an AI and stole a Prothean artifact, and I am an AI. We are all walking capital crimes. The new best-case scenario is the Citadel races plus 3 assassins are all coming to kill us. Worst case scenario is the Citadel races, 3 assassins, and a criminal organization are coming to kill us." The silence stretches on uncomfortably.
"Can we go back to option 1? I miss option 1"
"Not an option, unfortunately. Alright, we need to get the fuck off this planet. Is everything important in this lab?"
"We kind of sleep her, so yes we're not keeping this anywhere else."
"Ok. Toph can you start packing up everything important. Just move it into the warehouse. Thank you."
"Fine, but you better get us out if here."
"Suki, how's your hacking?"
"Pretty good"
"Okay, we need a ship off the planet that we can take to my space station. I think because the space station is purely mine it doesn't have any outstanding ties. So we can either steal the ownership of a ship or steal money to buy a ship."
"Silva, we shouldn't steal," Suki says. Too which I give her back a confused look.
"Suki, we're already in the most trouble with the law we can be. Need I remind you stolen Promethean Beacon. If it makes you feel any better try stealing from somebody who deserves it. I'm not as comfortable hacking yet, so I'll try to scan the extranet for anything referring to you two."
"Ha. Silva we should let Suki lead more often if this is the kind of thing she gets us into. Not even a day into this trip and already we're fugitives." Toph joked while lugging a huge section of the lab into the warehouse.
"It's not my fault! Plus I wasn't the one who decided to be an illegal race."
"Suki. That speciest. I thought as a Quarian you would better understand what happens when you deny a race its personhood."
"Not cool Silva. You don't just bring that stuff up."
I was going to argue with her about how she's not really a Quarian so she should calm down, but then I realize she is really a quarian. She has memories of a significant portion of a life a Quarian. Those memories should fade slightly and drop from the forefront of her mind, but for now, I might have to help them both adjust "Sorry Suki"
"Right. I'm sorry too. Illegal Races wasn't a good term especially considering Quarians loosely fall into that category. What with how often Quarians are kicked out of or banned from places. Us non-citadel races need to stick together."
"Hmm. We do need to stick together."
