I spend the next day pushing myself through reaction training using airsoft BBs. They're clocked to shoot at 700 ft/s or just over 400 mph. The training is similar to paintball training but worse. I start earlier and it takes longer for me to start dodging them, but with breaks for eating I'm still capable of fully dodging all of the BBs by 10. The bruising is significantly worse though. The next morning I start getting back into my regular schedule so I leave early for a workout. Then I stop by Recovery Girl who gives me a glare and a lecture, but after what happened I think shes being more lenient about outside training.
The regular school day is back to normal Aizawa is there for home room and announces that we'll all be competing in the sports festival soon and this is very important for our career as a hero. Class 1-A has a bit of a conflicted meeting with the other classes of UA. 1-A is perceived as the reigning champ and everyone else is an underdog. The whole thing was really just a couple of minutes of Bakugou being Bakugou and some people showing off serious inferiority complexes. The festival is in two weeks, so I have plenty of time to get ready. But I'm already pushing the limits of what I can do with my gun range. I need to talk to Kawaguchi. After school, I meet back in her office.
"So Kawaguchi..."
"Let me stop you right there Gin you can call me Yumi"
"Alright then Yumi the sports festival is coming up and I want to impress people. I need your help."
"I'm in. What do you need me to do?"
"Well, I think I need to show you can you come back to my apartment."
"I let you call me Yumi for a minute and you're already inviting me back to your place."
"Still 15 Yumi"
"Right, Right let's go to your apartment then"
We leave the office and take the train to my dorm. Its the first time I've used the train. I've always just been running places. We get back to my dorm then I set up the reaction range and have her watch from a distance.
" So you set this up to train your reaction speed?"
"Yea I started with a softball, then I made this originally for paintballs, then yesterday I upgraded this to uses BBs, but I've adapted to every increase in difficulty very quickly."
"Well, I don't know how this works, because you're not reacting to the gun firing. You're reacting before the gun fires, which should be impossible because they fire from a random direction and interval. I don't how you're doing this, and I won't ask about it, but I have a few ideas."
The next two workdays we built a chamber it was like the perfected version of my proof of concept. The six faces of the chamber had built-in guns with an improved tracking program. Some guns would aim at me, some would lead me, some would trail me, and some would just be shot somewhere I could dodge to. The guns had a variety of firing options including a wide range of projectile speeds as well as intervals between launches. The most intense level is like swimming in a sea of bullets. For the next 10 days, I spend hours inside every day. By the time of the sports festival, I'm confident I could dodge a bullet. The training also extended my general danger sense, not just imminent danger. Like I feel a nigh imperceivable shake when someone with a strong quirk is behind me. A couple of my classmates had mentioned maybe training together, but I politely refused. I wouldn't get as much training together plus I might give myself away. Everyone seemed to accept my refusal pretty well. Except for Midoriya. Ever since he found out I was quirkless the kid has been strange. Can you both stalk and avoid someone? Because that's what it feels like he's doing. The one time he did try to talk to me it was 15% Japanese, 20% mutter, and 65% stutter. I don't have the patience for that. After that interaction, I decided to give him space until he could function around me again.
On the last day before the festival, I cut all of my training programs and just relaxed. During work that night I reminded Yumi that she had some killer insider information. She could bet that a quirkless student would make it to rounds 2 and 3 or that a quirkless student will win. If you phrase a bet like that the odds have got to be insane. Betting is legal, but I can't bet for two reasons. First, you can't bet on something you're in. Second I'm a minor. I don't know if Yumi took that hint, but if I could bet I would.
It's finally time the day of the sports festival. The school is packed the stadium is filled with people me and the rest of class 1-A are in our own waiting room. Slowly waiting for the event to start. It starts and Class 1-A along with all of the other first-year classes come out to the announcements of Present Mic. On stage is a hot chick in BDSM gear. She calls up the class representative. Bakugou goes up and gives a 'Speech'. Is telling everyone your better than them a speech? Then we're lead to a large tunnel for the first event the obstacle course race.
