Cody nodded his understanding. "You have changed. I can see that you are already closer to being one of them than you are to being one of us. It is apparent from your speech and mannerisms. Is this Claire Conway's doing?"

That probably wasn't meant to be a compliment but the thought of being more Normal than Number filled Alex with pride. He was getting closer to his goal every day. 

"Yes. She has been a great teacher. Not only with telling me what things are but how they work. Particularly emotions. I would not have been able to make sense of them all without her," he said seriously. 

"I'm afraid that the five of you are at a disadvantage because you don't have someone like Claire helping you along. One had someone from the outside to teach him how that worked as well but you are all sticking together rather than finding mentors."

Cody tilted his head slightly in confusion. "Claire is our mentor. As are you."
