As the rest of the group returned to the scene they were visibly taken aback by it. They had most likely never seen annihilation of something to this degree. They were talking again and I still had no clue what they were saying, but I assumed they were reporting how this happened to the others.
After maybe 10 minutes of explanations and finger-pointing had passed, the group had apparently chosen a new direction to go into and gestured me to follow.
This time I wanted to know where they would lead me, knowing part of my destructive potential. They didn't seem terrified but impressed instead, as if they were sure I wasn't planning on attacking them.
During the travel, they sometimes eyed the metal cubes floating around me but none of them tried to touch one of them. I wished I knew what they were thinking, not so much though that I would use telepathy to find out.
After a while of moving through the woods, we we arrived at a path, which seemed to lead through the forest. The group of reptilians seemed rather happy about finding the path and started following it. It was a rather eventless travel and I didn't even know where they were heading.
I reluctantly started lowering my mental defense to a minimum in order to learn their language. This time I wouldn't do it just by listening but by actively copying the language information over. This is mentally taxing for both parties but not permanently harmful, since it is something as unspecific as language.
They might feel very tired for a couple days but other than that there should be no side effects. Another reason for my distaste of telepathy was that I had to lower my mental defense to do it. Psions that are specialized in telepathic... procedures, have a secondary layer of defense that would protect them from counterattacks unless the opponent was even more powerful.
I however didn't specialize in telepathy. My metal defense still knew no bounds, as long as i didn't attack. This ability was rather rare among psions but so was my compatibility with time and space. I was practically another example of how much randomness reality involved.
I felt slightly less uncomfortable due to me being the only psion in this world but the other unpleasantries remained and I still felt more vulnerable than i'd like to.
After taking what I needed, I rebuild me mental defense and checked on their conditions. Once I was done I quickly rebuilt my mental defense. Unfortunately I still had to assimilate that language. I couldn't just learn it from one moment to the other, I still had to hear it in action. The learning process would be done extremely fast though.
Although I was patient, I didn't want to lose too much time traveling with the group. I decided to take a nap and to fly the rest of the way to wherever this road was leading.
As I would apparently never be allowed to sleep through, I was awoken early in the morning by one of the reptilians before the sun had risen. They clearly wanted to move on and so did I, although I wouldn't stay with the group.
I waited around until they were ready to depart and checked my inventory. One of the gold cubes was missing, or rather a pulse revealed that a reptilian took it. Not too much of a surprise, finding greed in sentient being. As I still had a ton of gold, I decided to let them have it. They would surely have more use for this petty amount, than I would.
As they started moving along the road, I took of into the sky and began my acceleration towards the same direction. The only thing I heard before they were too far away, was something akin to a "What?".
Languages are annoying, aren't they?
