The sky vanished. His pupils, irises, and sclera all reflected a single image that overtook his vision: a Nine-Colored Sun. It wasn't simply nine-colored because of its light or just arbitrary. This hunk of mass that seemingly blotted out the starry sky, the clouds, the light, was different than other stars. It was constructed from tangible, animated elements!

A little insight into my brain as I was writing the tribulation mechanics. Long ago, I was deciding to make the tribulation an aggressively powerful trial for cultivators, one where it's do or die! Which, mind you, it is! However, as I was designing the purpose of the tribulation in the initial designing of the world's cultivation system, I thought: "Well, what if it's not a tribulation, but is also a tribulation."
Hence, a tribulation that teaches. It's purpose is to not prevent, but to provide the means and the support!
Normally, it'll be resisted by your power to prevent yourself from turning into Phantom Rogue(Bloody Mist) while simultaneously accepting its powers for transformation, but our epic MC has to be a little special, right?
So out the window went truly violent cultivation tribulations! Lets keep that for Heavenly Exterminating-type Tribulations(Or later tribulations)!
P.S: I got the idea when I was designing the ninth-grade product that made King of Everlore ascend. A little spoiler: The pill makes your body completely adaptable to the tribulation powers, so no need to resist! Just accept. <3
