My mother dated a gambler once. His name was Miguel and I truly mean was, because he died not too long after they broke up. The case was unsolved, but the police speculated it was because he had owed a lot of debt to the wrong people. But you would have never known if you saw him becuase he was the most happy-go-lucky, relaxed adult I had ever seen.
As the jockeys bounce on the back of the steeds and lean into the curve, I can now understand why Miguel was always relaxed despite having so much money on the line and constantly losing. In this little gamble I've just engaged in, there is no way for me to influence the outcome, no way for me to make #3 win this entire race. I can only sit back, wait, and watch for fate to decide who will win.
Thank you to the kind readers who took a gamble with this book and have sent me gifts, golden tickets, power stones, and comments!
I notice all of it and appreciate every single one of you very very much!!
