Chương 69: Crossing The River
Arden looked at the cat with some thought at his mind, while he is exploring the land he is currently standing on, he thought about the cat once again, 'Could animal have servants?'
The cat looked at him as it knew what is he thinking about and just continued following him. Arden still exploring the island when he was stopped by a river.
"Weird…" He raised one of his eyebrows and then walked beside the river, knowing he will find something interesting.
He walked beside the river for some moment and stumbled across something interesting. The river came from the mountain and split into 2.
He quickly ran to the other part of the river and after some moment, he saw Edward doing something to the skin of the bear while sitting against the tree.
He looked at Edward and Edward noticed Arden and looked back at him. He continued running beside the river and then meet another interesting fact.
The island was surrounded by a river, at a certain point, the river was divided into 2. But became 1 at a point not far from the point it was divided.
Arden knowing this fact quickly though about a brilliant idea, 'This place is great to build a castle at!'
He stopped his thought and looked at the surrounding. Immediately, his thought came back to him, 'There are many materials too, I'll make a castle here in the future!'
He continued exploring while having many great ideas on what he is going to build here. After making sure he explored the land there, he came to the agreed place for him and Edward to meet.
Edward was sitting beneath the same tree, the one that Arden saw when he was exploring. Arden sat against the tree as well while hugging the small tiger cub close to his chest.
He tried to keep his eyes open and stayed cautious of the island itself. His eye couldn't go against his mind. The one wanted to stay awake, and the one wanted to rest.
Arden quickly closes his eyes on the command of his mind. He woke up because of the sound of birds chirping at the tree above him and the sound of the forest itself.
Edward was already gone at this time and Arden looked around him, hoping to find Edward. He panicked when he didn't see any sign of the son of Louis and quickly stood up.
He placed the tiger cub that is still sleeping near the cat that is doing the same with the cub. Arden was about to search for him, but Edward came back with a bird in his hand.
Arden sighed in relief and looked at him and Edward quickly said a thing that made Arden panicked even more, "Sir, the flow is not slowing down, we couldn't cross the river today"
Arden looked at Edward's serious face and knew he was not joking. But still, he didn't believe him and so he tried to focus on his hearing and could hear the flow of the river.
Even louder than the one he could hear at night from his position. He sat down and looked as all hope was lost, Edward could see this and said to him, "Don't worry sir, I know it will become normal later"
Arden looked at Edward and then placed his hand on his stomach, he could hear himself hungry and haven't eaten anything since yesterday and knew exactly what that bird is for.
He could see Edward started gathering some dry sticks and quickly stood up to help him. Both of them sat down at the ground and start making the fire.
As Edward was impaling the bird on a stick after clearing all of its feathers, Arden asked him about Louis, "Any news from Louis?"
Edward took a glance from him for a few moments before placing the bird above the fire and then answered, "Yea, he said he will get some people to rescue us, I think it would be great to make a castle here judging by the river"
Arden looked at Edward and surprised that he had the same idea as his. Both of them waited for the birds to be cooked while making some small conversation.
That's when Arden feel something is coming out from his private part, he quickly gets up and told Edward, "Sorry, some emergency here!"
Arden quickly chooses a tree far away from the location to do his business. He chose one and then started doing his business there, as he was doing it, he looked at other trees to distract himself.
He could see a hole beneath it and became interested in what inside it. He did his business and approach the hole and peeked his head to see what is in there.
After some time, he felt it was better to eat the bird and tell Edward about it. He rushed to the location where Edward is waiting for him and taking the cooked bird from the stick.
He sat down at his place before and waited for the right moment to tell Edward. As he was opening his mouth, Edward stretched his hand to him with half of the cooked bird on it.
He accepted politely and give a short "Thanks to him" Both of them ate the bird as fast as they could because of all the energy wasted yesterday.
After both of them feel their tummy is satisfied, Arden looked at Edward and said something about the hole, "Hey Edward, I found a hole when I was doing my business, let's check it out"
Edward became interested in the thing Arden talked about and quickly stood up. Arden looked at him confused, and Edward suddenly stretched his arm to help Arden get up.
Arden happily accepted and said, "Let's check out that hole, it might be an escape route for us"
Edward nodded and brought the heavy bearskin with him while Arden began helping him. Both of them carried it until they reached the hole Arden was talking about.
Arden looked at him and nodded, "Since I'm in the front, I'll go first"
Edward nodded back and watched as Arden dropped himself to the hole and could feel it was a little bit moist inside the hole. Algae on the walls and water at the ground.
The hole led to a tunnel, and it was a long narrow tunnel and he couldn't see the end at all; it was just darkness but he has a good feeling about the tunnel.
He yelled at Edward that is still outside the tunnel, "Edward! It's safe here!"
Edward didn't respond, but he dropped down immediately, making Arden having a heart attack. Seeing someone suddenly dropped into the hole immediately.
Eventually, Arden calmed down and began helping Edward with the bearskin. Both of them walked in the tunnel and Arden could feel as they were going down.
Time passes and they were getting lower and lower, both of them just walked in the darkness, without any light covering them. Then, Arden's heard skipped a single beat, he could feel water-dropping above him and hitting his head.
He quickly shouted to Edward and began running away, "Edward! Run!"
Edward while running, could feel the same thing that happened to Arden before and quickly complied to Arden. Both of them ran and Arden could feel as he was going up and not down anymore.
That's when the water stopped dropping to his head, and he slowed his pace. He walked normally and as he was about to make his next step, his feet were stopped by a wall of dirt in front of him.
He raised one of his eyebrows in confusion and looked above him. Some leaves with a dry stick supporting it, giving the sunlight some space to went through the leaves as it straight into his eye. He yelled to Edward once again, "Sunlight!"
Arden moves the leaves and stick away and climbed up and left the dark tunnel. Edward passes him the bearskin and did the same as him.
Both of them are at the surface now, looking to the river and know they have crossed the river. Knowing this, Arden quickly hides the hidden passage with leaves and stick and sat down at the tree.
Tired of walking in the darkness, both of them chuckled while making some conversation trying to entertain their self.
That was when Louis with some city guards approached them from afar. Both of them sighed in relief when seeing this.
The guard began asking questions to Arden and Edward, asking if they were okay. That's when Arden remembered something, the cat and the tiger cub is still across the river and he began panicking.
Edward looked at him and immediately remember about those 2 animals, they ended up showing Louis the secret passage and bringing him to get the white cat and tiger cub across the river.
They planned on getting to Louis house happily with all the things they got.
