The following morning, Akela woke up with a yawn. Blue was still sleeping, and he nudged her gently. She replied with a friendly growl. "Blue...why are you like this? What happened to you? You can tell me." Akela asks. Blue sighed and yawned, showing her light yellow stained teeth. "Alright I'll tell you...see, my mother Sharp was in a pack at the time, and she already had a mate within it. Her mate, Zeek, was the alpha of their pack. They had about twenty-seven wolves in their pack. My mother didn't love him, but she married him because she had too. When they were younger, they were betrothed to unite their packs. Zeek loved her right from the start.
But, my mother didn't feel the same. She gave him a son, Saturn. One day, she was out patrolling the territory. That's when she met my father: Rigel. Rigel was a loner, searching for a female to start a pack with. When they first met though, he attacked my mother in self defense. Even though he was a dire, he was weak. My mother won, and gave her mercy on him because she could tell he was defenseless. He apologized for his actions. Later on, he returned his kindness by saving her life from a bear. When she and Zeek got into an argument, she ran away and found him once more. She fell in love with him, and he fell in love with her.
Later on, Zeek found out when he found her with him. He attacked him, despite his size. He told him to leave and never return. My mother refused to stay without being with him. So she left with Rigel and later had me and three other siblings. When we got older, we got attacked by rival wolves. They killed everyone, but I managed to escape unharmed. I ran nonstop for days, until I finally collapsed in some land I have never seen.
That's when I met you when you woke me up. When I saw you...I was afraid to tell you where I was from. But then, I saw something in your eyes. You didn't look mean or aggressive. You looked kind and generous to be near me. You let your father take me in, and I felt safe and protected…"
She sighed and looked at him. Her eyes are large and sad. "The only reason I'm out here now is because of Kiba." Akela looked confused. "Kiba? What did he do to you?" "He said that I'd be better off dead...that way you and him could spend time with each other like you used to. He said that if he were you, he would've left me where he found me and wouldn't say anything to you or your parents."
Akela looked like he was going to rage. But he sighed and said calmly, "Come on...let's go back to the den. I'll have a talk with my brother and we'll see what he does." Blue nodded as she got up and stretched. Akela led the way, and as soon as they reached the den, Nightlight greeted them. "There you guys are! I've been worried."
Akela nuzzled his father's foreleg. "Don't be Dad...we just fell asleep in the forest. Have you seen Kiba?" Nightlight nodded. "He's up on the hill where I used to take you both." "Thanks! Stay here Blue. I'll be back later." Blue let herself smile. Akela followed the path that led to the hill where his father used to take him and his brother to overlook the landscape. He found his brother there, sitting down looking at the mountains. "Kiba!" he calls. Kiba looked over his shoulder. "Hi Akela."
Akela looked at him with stern eyes as he walked up to him. "What is wrong with you? Why did you have to be so mean to Blue?" Kiba spun around with a look of pure rage on his face. "Mean?! I was speaking truth, brother. Ever since she came along, you've been spending time with her, and less with your own blood! You and I have been so close, and now since she showed up, you hardly hang out with me! Face it, you're too heartful. To-too kind!" Kiba growls.
Akela snarled. "There's nothing wrong with being kind to others Kiba! Being kind gets you somewhere, and being heartful means that you're a good wolf with a greater purpose! You don't see that everyone around here loves you. Mom, Dad, Atlas, me...but you threw that back in our faces! You're starting to become a cold-selfish jerk Kiba!" Kiba growled and pounced on his brother. Biting his ears-more in pain than play. Akela yelped and howled as he tried to get his brother off of him. He pushed Kiba back with his hind legs. Kiba rolled over once, and stood and shook himself. He growled, his pup teeth bared at his brother. Akela snarled back in a warning, but just as they were about to continue fighting, Nightlight called them. "Boys!" Akela and Kiba looked at their father. Nightlight looked stern yet spoke calmly as he approached his sons. "What is going on between you two? This isn't like you." Akela's fur slowly returned to normal, as he sighed and sat on his haunches. "I'm sorry Dad...We were arguing, and then it happened."
Nightlight looked at Akela, then to Kiba; who was still puffed up so he looked twice his size. "Kiba, you should know better than to attack your brother. If there is a problem, then you come to me or your mother…" he looked to Akela. "That goes for you too Akela. You are better than this, both of you are. Now, I want no more arguing...no more fighting...and no more trouble-making. So let's go back to the den, and we'll figure something out."
Akela sighed, and as he passed Kiba, his brother nipped his flank. It wasn't a deep bit, but just enough to make Akela swallow back a yelp. As they approached the den, Atlas was there, along with Moon and a few others. "Nightlight, we have an issue at the border." Moon says. Nightlight looked at her. "What kind of issue?" Atlas cleared his throat and spoke. "Not really an issue, but there are six wolf-like animals at the border. They asked to join us, and I told them to wait as I came to get you."
Nightlight looked confused. "What exactly do you mean by 'wolf-like' animals?" Atlas shrugged. "I really don't know, they smell like wolves, and look like them, but they're a bit bigger and share traits that don't look like us." Nightlight sighed. He looked to his mate, and said "Pandora love, stay with the pups please. I'll go deal with them, and see what they want." Pandora nodded. "Of course dear." Nightlight looked at Atlas. "Take me to these animals." Atlas nodded and led the way, and Nightlight had a confused look on his face. What were these animals? What did they want? He'd find out soon enough.
