"Guardians? Those ugly creatures are guardians? Are you kidding me?" I scoffed. "You definitely aren't any good at jokes you know. If you want to keep them so badly, then you are more than welcome to do so. At least, don't lie to my face." I turned my face away from him. 

How old did he think I was? How could he even believe that I would fall for such a bad excuse? He could have tried to come up with a better one.

"I am not joking, little one." He shook his head as he smiled at me. "Have I ever lied to you before this? No, I haven't. Why would I start now?" 

"You…" He did have a point. He wasn't someone who would make an excuse. If he didn't want to share something with me, he would just say it out right. 

"I meant what I said." He spoke up again when he saw that I didn't plan to. "Gargoyles are considered to be guardians in the demonic world."
