I start the car speeding my way home. I ran red lights and I didn't obey speed laws as I raced to beat Cate home. Even as I drove recklessly I felt panic rise as I thought about Cate getting there first and finding I'm not there. The possibility that she really did recognize it was me tonight that she fought. I felt tears run down my eyes as my heart raced and I felt sick to my stomach. I was so tired of this and just wanted it to end and for things in my life to just be normal for once.
As I drove down the dark road in the cold night air I felt on fire with panic and rage from the sheer discontentment of my whole life currently. My eyes began to blur from the tears and puffy eyes. When suddenly I saw a car come to a stop right in front of me. I slammed my break as I nearly ran into the car's bumper.
My heart dropped to my stomach as I removed my shaky hands from the steering wheel. I covered my mouth as a sob came out and I shut my eyes. When I heard the honk of the horn from the car behind me I began to drive again rushing to get back home. As I turned onto my street I wiped my tears from my eyes trying to calm myself. When I finally made it I saw Cate in the corner of my eye. I dart for my bedroom window and climb in, hurting myself a little in the process.
I quickly tear off my suit trying my best to be careful with it to not actually rip any of it in the process. I shove it under my pillow and run to my dresser and grab a pair of pajamas. I then lay down acting as if I was asleep. Cate came rushing through the door seconds later. She came up to me and tore the blanket off to see me in my pajamas looking fast asleep. I tried to slow down my heart so she wouldn't catch me in my lie. Once she sighed and left the room I sighed in relief. "F**k that was close" I muttered under my breath. I spread out my arms on the bed and lay there for a moment.
A couple minutes later I snuck out of my bedroom checking to make sure Cate was watching the show she usually watches before bed and smile when I see her doing just that. I sneak into the garage and put my suit and mask back in it's glass container and seal it back into the secret compartment. I leave the garage and go back to my room falling asleep.
In the morning I go to Cate who fell asleep on the couch. I act as if everything was normal but she had a look on her face as if I had explaining to do. I look at her acting confused " what?". Cate looked at me with a suspicious look "why was your suit gone last night". I tensed up a little. I came up with a lie and told her "I went on a mission earlier in the evening and when I got home I forgot to put it back". She sighed "Victoria... you don't forget those kind of things why are you lying". I sigh too "I'm not... I promise". She looked at me disappointed "why can't you be honest with me? I'm your best friend, I'm here for you, you can trust me". I smile "I do trust you". later on I tell her I plan to go to Africa so I can meet one of my dad's friends. I know she didn't really believe that was why I was doing it but she didn't question me.
I take a flight to Africa and order a room at an Airbnb in a smaller town in Morocco. I really did have a family friend who came to Morocco for the last couple years to keep an eye on an upsurge in black magic coming from the northwest side of Africa. He offered to help me train a little but I mainly left to get away from Cate and large areas of people to try to cause the least harm. I didn't know how long I would stay in Africa but I know I'm not leaving anytime soon. I mean I can survive at least for another half a year before the witch takes over completely so I have time.
