Chương 73: Chapter 73: Creating a contract
"So, you're one of the four Death Lords of this forest?" Xiu Ye asks Tiangou, both sitting crosslegged on the ground and near the edge of the forest; the former having thought to change their locations so they wouldn't be suddenly attacked by the Deathly Hallows near the scorched land; who would all undoubtedly seen that sea of fire.
"That's right!" Tiangou nodded with a pleased expression. She was wearing a loose white T-shirt and black sport shorts that reached her shins; which is expected as those clothes are Xiu Ye's and Tiangou human form comes shorter to him.
"And you want to be my partner? Like, be my spirit soul?" Xiu Ye asked, flabbergasted. Still processing the fact that a hundred thousand year old Death Lord has decided to be his partner, and not kill him and take his soul instead.
"What's a spirit soul?" Tiangou said, blinking her eyes as she tilts her head to the side.
Xiu Ye tilted his head as well, confused. "You don't know what's spirit soul? Then, what kind of partnership are we talking about here?"
"...." Tiangou stared at him with blank eyes and lips thinned.
"..." Xiu Ye stared back at her with deadpanned eyes.
"...you don't know either, do you?"
Tiangou pouted and turned her head away. "Well sorry, I do know what kind of partnership I want, I just got confused with your unknown terms! I saw a human being accompanied by several other soul beasts before I got here, that's the partnership I was talking about. Those soul beasts had become his soul rings yet they still retain their souls, spirit forms and intelligence. Were they spirit souls?"
Xiu Ye rubbed his chin and pondered, "Well judging by what you had just said, I think so. It's the only thing I can think about for a soul beast to accompany a soul master, except if they're a transformed human and is either a friend or lover to that soul master."
"Great! I have to become a spirit soul." Tiangou paused. "How do I do that?"
"I do not know." Xiu Ye honestly said. Despite reading numerous books of the world's knowledge, forming a contract with a Deathly Hallow was not in them, heck, even forming a contract with a real soul beast didn't as well!
You'd think that, in this current era, where soul masters are mostly reliant on spirit souls, they would be given free knowledge on how to have a contract with a real soul beast but no. There wasn't a single single text in the books he has or in the soul net that covers: getting a spirit soul contract with a soul beast.
The reason for that is probably because soul beasts are at the brink of extinction. It's rare to find a real soul beast around, much less forming a contract with a suitable one, so the Federation or Spirit Pagoda had probably decided to just keep the knowledge of having a contract with soul beast from the public a secret, so the latter could profit even more by soul masters buying their products when they didn't know how to make a real soul beast their spirit soul.
Xiu Ye might have some negative views about them but he has to admit that they are very good businessmen/women.
The two then became silent. Tiangou was pouting on how her plan of reuniting with her master was already failing while Xiu Ye was thinking on how should he solve this problem.
He could try using the methods he glimpsed into the weapons of mages and their history in his inner world of making Tiangou his familiar or servant. But he wasn't certain that it would work cause a.) this is a different world with different laws and magic system and b.) he was sure he's going to fucked up the ritual in some way due to his luck and explode both him and Tiangou up.
'...couldn't hurt to try right?' Xiu Ye thought, completely hesitant. 'I mean, that necromancer in Douluo Dalu 2 was able to use his magic without any issue and even teach it to Huo Yuhao, which the latter was able to use as well and incorporate it to the spirit soul system...'
He widened his eyes in realization. How could he forget?! He somewhat remembered that the necromancer was really the person behind the spirit soul system, and Huo Yuhao, in honor of his deceased teacher, had refined it and completed so humans and soul beast could use it to have a harmonious relationship; thus revolutionizing the entire soul master cultivation system.
Could he try and create a magical contract between him and Tiangou?
Xiu Ye stared at Tiangou in front him. She had remained quiet for the entire time and was making strange funny faces and while squirming around: trying to think of a way to create a partnership with him.
He, honestly, doesn't really know why would he go along with her; trying to a create a partnership between them. Is it because she'd help him become stronger and a great ally as a hundred thousand year old spirit soul, well at least he thinks she'd be a hundred thousand year old spirit soul because of her strength, but even then, could she really be his spirit soul?
His martial soul, Ryūjin Jakka, is a sword with the fire attribute and the only reason Mjolnir had became his spirit soul was because his connection to the real Mjolnir hiding in his inner world. Moreover, he was still rank 27, far from rank 30 for him to need another soul ring and Mjolnir could still give him another as well when he is at rank 30. More importantly however, could his body even handle the strain of carrying a hundred thousand year old spirit soul?
Xiu Ye's lips went dry at the thought of his body exploding like a balloon from the absurd energy of having a hundred thousand year old spirit soul. He was going to decline helping right her now when he remembers that Tiangou is a powerful being, capable of just pressuring his soul by her spiritual power and destroy his most powerful trump card or using pure physical strength to crush his body instantly into pieces before he could say trace and on.
"Hey Tiangou, what's your elemental attribute?" Xiu Ye asked with wry smile, already resigned to help her become his spirit soul.
Tiangou raised an eyebrow with a index finger under her chin and said, "Darkness, space, life and fire. I only gotten darkness when I became like this, space was something I comprehended when I created my soul core, and both life and fire were attributes given to me by my master." As she said the last, the corners of her lips tugged up into a bright innocent smile.
Xiu Ye was shocked by what she had just said. 'Four elemental attributes. And two of them were given to her by her master? Especially that life attribute, is that why she isn't consumed by the hunger? Because her connection with the life attribute caused her hunger to be less?' He shook his head, he could figure that out later. For now, he has confirmed that could still have Tiangou as his spirit soul with her fire attribute.
Even so, there are still a lot of problems on how he could make her his spirit soul.
Xiu Ye frustratingly bit on his finger nail as he glared at the ground.
Tiangou puffed her cheeks up before she notices Xiu Ye's current frustrated behavior and stared at him. She let out a sigh and said, "Forget it, human. You can go."
Xiu Ye blinked his eyes, dumbfounded. "Huh?"
Tiangou smiled, resigned, and said. "It was worth a try anyway, and I just asked too much for a human your age. I-I guess I was too excited to finally have a chance again to meet my master. Go on, you can go home, I won't hold it against you."
Xiu Ye clenched his hands as he saw her broken resigned smile. Why, why does he have the urge to help her?
...Is it because she looked to be in great need of help? To help her get out of this place and reunite with her master, whoever that is.
When she talks about her master, Xiu Ye could see the deep sadness and longing in her eyes. He wonders... how long has she remained in this forest, trying to reunite with her master, who would probably be dead by now due to being hunted by the soul masters. (AN: He assumes that her master is a soul beast.)
Staring at her weird red and gold colored eyes, which hides of pain, suffering, despair, longing, hope and etcetera. Xiu Ye let out a tired sigh and cursed his bleeding heart once more.
Xiu Ye said with a smile. "Hey Tiangou, I have an idea on how to make you my spirit soul."
Tiangou widened her eyes. "Wait, really?!"
He nodded his head and said, "Yes, it's a magical ritual. But it's going to take some time. Just wait right here and defend my unguarded body from other Deathly Hallows while I find the instructions on how to create that magical ritual."
Tiangou excitedly stood up with a hopeful wide smile and did a sloppy two fingers salute. "Sir, yes sir!"
Xiu Ye chuckled at her action before closing his eyes.
He dived into his inner world and started reading the history of mages' weapons and their magic knowledge.
Xiu Ye flatly stared at the ever limitless land of his inner world, filled with embedded weapons and laying armors, and began to second guess his decision.
Ryūjin Jakka appeared besides with a look of pity, letting out a sigh, he patted his shoulder and said, "Good luck. You're going to need it."
Xiu Ye let out sigh, "I suppose I can't count on you to help?"
"Nope. Don't have structural analysis."
"Fuck. I hope it doesn't takes too long."
It took him two days to find the right magical ritual, one that doesn't end badly for either him and Tiangou, and two more days on trying to perfectly create the magical circle for the contract ritual.
